Well you can sleep soundly knowing that not much will wreck that awning. Good true sign of the equipment Phil. Great job mate

True, it’s good to know that the gear can sustain storms like that.

Great test of your awning I recon your advantage is that your awning is Firmly secured To your rooftop tent, and other are attached to camper trailers ,if you have them attached to roof racks with small angle brackets I think you would probably have a different video, yours has those tough touring brackets which are bolted on in multiple places definitely makes a difference well done mate
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s just the bracket, it’s a combination of awning and bracket. Awning is just as important as the bracket.
@Sawadventures673 жыл бұрын
@@PhilsCampingReviews I agree with you your awning is very strong and it is a combination of the awning and the brackets but my point was if it wasn’t bolted to the flat surface of your roof top tent only with angle brackets on a normal roof rack the angle brackets would fale and the awning would blow over the top of the car it might still hold together but the brackets would not hold it if they were just normal angle brackets on a roof rack I think the difference is it’s bolted to your rooftop tent By one of the best systems I have seen I don’t think any other awning would withstand wind like that

I think it's a good idea you pegged down your awning. That was a crazy storm dude. It certainly made your live feed interesting...lol
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
Always best to peg out if it looks like there is a storm. I only had to use two pegs.
@charliekahukiwa25522 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil....without seeing up close that issue you have at the rear with the gap between the roof rack and the awning, I was thinking that you could attach an aluminium sheet to the roof rack....basically the aluminium sits higher that the awning and the rain would just run from the aluminium to the top of the awning....and thanks for the videos.

I’ve since built a cover that folds away with the awning. It stops all water from going through that gap

Been looking at theses. Would be great if someone had a discount code of something to get the price down a bit. Any chance you have a code I could use that would be great.

Sorry. I don't have a code.

EXCELLENT VIDEO, your best. Big shame about the pooling on the Ostrich. I was convinced this is the best 270 awning on the market. I'm sick of the legs on my Drifta/SupaPeg rapid wing 270. Seems I may have to stick with it...
@PhilsCampingReviews2 жыл бұрын
It only pools to a certain point than the water runs off. Although they do recommend to use those tarp clamps in the middle and peg it out so that the water runs straight off with no pooling. I’ve never found any need to do this so far. I’ve found the canvas is the strongest and thickest on the Ostrichwing that it don’t stretch like all the other awnings do. I don’t miss my supapeg one bit. This Ostrichwing is leaps and bounds better.

Hi Phil I enjoy your Videos Could you tell me where you purchased your Ostrich 270 from please. I live on Bribie Island in QLD and can not track any where to buy one. The Western Australian dealer does not sent to the east coast. Can you help out with a contact please Thanks Brad

what a storm, wish my Foxwing 270 could handle winds, its flown up and over my car twice now, time for an upgrade i think
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
I only had two pegs out and honestly, I don’t think I needed them. The two pegs I pegged in half way through the storm.

It looks like the poles actually serve no purpose - the guy ropes do all the work, as the poles just swing in the air. Could you remove the poles to save weight?
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
You could remove them, but they weigh next to nothing and I think you should use them with the walls. You have to attach the walls to the poles for a wind break.

I want to change the poles on my awning for those pegable feet awning poles.
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
Although those peggable feet piles will need a seclude connection to the awning. The ball and socket will not work.
@newport55043 жыл бұрын
@@PhilsCampingReviews I was going to do the same thing to my 30 second awning, but the ball joint wouldn’t make it work for it
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
@@newport5504 No that ball joint will not work with peggable feet. Need to look at a different way to mount the drop down poles to the awning bracket. Unfortunately where I live no one’s sells the supa peg poles for the awning. There’s nothing I can do about it for now.

Phil it looked like you had a fair qmount of water coming in near the hinge, was that from the gap between the awning and your car? not the hinge itself
@PhilsCampingReviews3 жыл бұрын
Gap between awning and car. If I had the Bundutop Tent up, that would have stopped the rain coming through that gap as the roof top tent has a awning out around it.
