I actually called them the day after shot show. I agree, there needed to be some revisions to the platform. I have a rear takedown pin that's lost it's retainer and just randomly walks out now, and a pretty bad case of hammer follow. My buddy's wearing around his mag catch too. The entire frame is basically polymer, and if there's any problems with it, it's essentially gonna take an entire new rifle to fix the problem. Something else to think about: Who's gonna make the replacement bolts? If there's no more FE models, what happens if you get a busted bolt? I applaud DT for making some interesting systems, Nick's been good about being open around some of the problems with the platform, but I have a very sour taste in my mouth around them now. I like the idea of the MDRx, it shoots good, accurate enough for a gas gun, great for throwing in a car or something, especially with a K can, but there's so many question marks, and seeing the platform basically abandoned after 4ish years doesn't inspire confidence for me. Good video though!

As I was doing research into the MDRX I read about the technical shortcomings impacting accuracy and reliability. It became apparent that a significant redesign was needed, which is why I held off buying one. Once we get independent verification of the improvements to accuracy, I'll be purchasing one of these new Wolverines.

I don’t know why people jumped on it knowing the inherent design flaws, it’s a great concept, but like you, I wasn’t about to buy one until a distinctly new generation or rifle came out with better reviews.

I had an mdr and mdrx. I couldn’t get them to be reliable. Deserttech couldn’t either….hearing the mdrx is getting phased out for an X-men does make me feel sour about deserttech. Still, being someone who runs bullpups more than other rifles, I will eventually check one out. Probably gonna sit and wait maybe 2yrs to make sure I don’t get shafted again

I am excited to see how the WLVRN will do. Also an MDRX owner, the new announcement doesn't really change my feelings about it.
@cxerphax19 ай бұрын
You forgot to mention according to the owner, Nick Young, the new one is 30% more accurate 😉. He should thank everyone for beta testing the $2500 MDRX at full price and continues to be sold at that price leading up to shot show with no indication that this was coming out.
@SquidlyCFST9 ай бұрын
They dropped the price in a big announcement like 6 weeks prior to the show. Christmas promos got announced and stayed in effect through shotshow. You just must not be on their email chain.

I bought an MSAR AUG about the time they gave up, and had no idea until I'd had it for a few weeks. I scarfed up all the spare parts and any other bits I thought I might want or need to keep running for a good long time. Sucks when something like this happens.

This is why I never buy anything till it’s been out for a few years. So many cool rifles get discontinued and no longer have parts made. But any product goes through development over the years.
@Wachpwnski6 ай бұрын
They will still make parts for it. Unfortunately you have to buy new stuff if you want new stuff. It’s like being mad you can’t make your gen2 Glock a gen5 Glock.

You chase technology. There will always be a newer shinier something. I for one realy love my MDRX. I don't see how adding a screw makes it 30% more accurate. Instead of being an 1" off at a 100 yards, I can be .7" off. I think I can live with it.
@sinistar4267 ай бұрын
You have to ask yourself, when will D.T. be announcing they are "phasing out" the Wolverine with something else and itll be the same company, doing the same thing, with a different weapon.
@ryanbv31398 ай бұрын
They should have kept the mdrx for a few more years; slowly fazing it out while also making improvements on the gun. Also i think they should still including this gun in the market. For example PSA has different ARs and AKs, if this gun is different why not keep both.

Reliability is at the top of my list. Does the new WLVRN design have the potential to be as reliable as let’s say the Tavor Bullpups?

Mine is in .308, with a .223Wyle barrel kit. The Wolverine model is nice to be an improvement. I originally wanted to buy a SRS A2, and settled for the MDRX. My other rifles are Henry's, Rugers, Savages, KelTecs, and a Tikka. So I thought the MDRX would be a brush gun for hog hunting.

In 223 The Mdrx and Wlvrn are about the same accuracy. Same goes for the 6.5 creedmore. 300blk and 308 vids haven't shown what these are capable of..Lots of folks want to see the 308s accuracy.
@the_algorithm3 ай бұрын
I am disappointed. I do love my MRDX but I bought it so I could get conversions. I've owned mine for 3 years and was getting ready to buy 2 conversions. Suddenly 2 conversions is the price of a brand new, BETTER, rifle... I have the .223 Wylde 20" and while it's accurate, I wanted .308 but could not find one at the time. (2021) I'm a DV 100% so I don;t have a lot of disposable income to just buy conversions willy-nilly so I saved up for a .308 and .300 BLK Now I will probably just gunbroker my MDRx and start from scratch with a base .308 model.

Not a bad buy at all. With no more production i can see these being in demand by lefties for the forward eject. Shouldn't be too hard to get the new one without a big financial loss.
@hersheyroseman45089 ай бұрын
I wish they keep developing the forward eject even if it isn't available at sale. Later models of the FE were definitely more reliable than initial release, but there is a training gap or grey ares like you mentioned that kept people from the platform. Bullpups aren't hip here in America.
@justwondering56518 ай бұрын
I understand that the forward eject increased weight and made clearing the chamber more difficult, and that users reported that given a choice they would prefer lighter weight.

I have the 308 and 224 FE. Even when my gun didnt jam, it would destroy the casing. Dont bother reloading. And yes. I am annoyed they dont suport or make improvements on the gen 2. The "gen 3" had improvements with the charging handles, mag release, and airflow in the gas system and even that...has no relevance to the new gun. So if you bought new parts or a gen 3? Get wrecked. You cant deny though. The MDR has the best trigger and controls of any Bullpup. - bullpup collector

This is why you can't trust those big name gun tubbers cause these companies pay them to review and hype the product up. I learned my lesson with Sig. I had a Sig516 that thing couldn't shoot 223. The 556xi was good but I sold the 223 version and kept the 762 and then they discontinued it. Then when the mcx came out i waited and waited all of sudden the lt released. I pulled the trigger on that and look at the barrel problems smdh.
