(Just and example I have no interest in Duchene) Trenin signed 4-year $14,000,000 ($3.5M per). Trenin had 12 goals and 5 assists. Matt Duchene signed 1-year $3M and had 25 goals and 40 assists. More proof the UFA have zero interest in MN and Billy OVER-SPENDS.

I’m ok with the signing overall, mostly because I think anything that can help the Wild’s PK (30th) is worth it. He plays hard and won’t be coasting out there. I hope he adds some locker room accountability by his example. Is it an overpay? Probably, welcome to the Cap reset and get ready for even more contracts adjusting higher. Lesson? UFAs are expensive.

Guerin just built a nasty 4th line. Lauko, Clark, Trenin (207 hits) as he has mentioned the Wild lost some identity / grit last year. Johansson / Freddy / Hartman all on notice. Everyone always seems to be glass 1/2 empty. One more year of cap hell. If Khusnutdinov / Ohgren / Rossi net 20 or so, the Wild will be battling for a playoff spot. I don’t think Freddy or Johansson can product any less than last year and should be on a short leash. I see Middleton 4 year 4.35 per year just signed. Let’s see what happens at training camp before we all drive off the cliff…

​​​​@@briangeary7684 Cap is really just a suggestion. A guideline. It doesn't need to be followed. 16 teams were over the cap last season with little to no consequences. Some GMs are playing chess while others are playing checkers. Billy plays checkers and is terrible at it. Billy has to re-sign, or trade, Faber Rossi, Wallstedt and Marat 2025. So, put a fork in the Parise/Suter money. It's already gone.

Guerin has signed 8 BIG boys, many with NHL experience for around $500,00.00 to play in Iowa, 2-way contracts. No one is under 6’2”. When someone stops playing - he has a BIG physical experienced group to pluck from, no more running the Wild out of the rink. Don’t underestimate these signings. The 4th line now consists of Lauko, Clark, Trenin, nasty. As for Faber / 97, Rossi, if they want to stay it’ll be up to them. The money will be fair and there - watch. We are not the worst at drafting, by any stretch of the imagination.. where we fail is giving the young players the chance to actually develop and grow in the big game, and it shows.. our prospect pool is always top tier, it’s the fact that we do nothing with them and let them all sit and die in Iowa while we scrape the bottom of the barrel each year with aged bums we pay way too much for.. this season, being the last of our cap he’ll, should have been a season solely spent developing these young guys who are right on the cusp, rather than signing these terrible deals and leaving guys like Freddy and Johansson in our lines
