Just because you work really hard and spend a lot of money, doesn't mean that your deer hunting parcel is a great deer hunting parcel. In fact, often the opposite is true! These are some pretty hard and fast signs that you are either doing a great job with your deer hunting parcel, or NOT...

I can't wait to see what content/benefits comes with this Whitetail Strategy package! Just bought 120 acres (2-60-acre parcels separated by power line) in Central Maine (My home state) and have watched dozens of your videos! My land is surrounded by other large parcels of guys I know well and there's NO WAY they would pay/split for a consultation. I so badly wanna use their "bad habits" and take advantage of their land use errors, hunting strategies, etc. Anxiously awaiting, hoping this might be a possible alternative to a "boots-on-ground" consultation!

7:14 This is my 5th year on my lease. I cannot do everything WHS suggests because the land is not mine. But I apply a whole lot of things that have helped me including water holes and licking vines with bow stands overlooking. The best thing I ever did was thinning does starting year one, taking no bucks until year 4. I got pics of only one mature buck each year and mostly at night. On year 4, I was getting more daytime buck pics, was at a 1:1 ration and took 2 4.5 year old trophy bucks and saw a few young bucks that should be impressive this season. 4.5 years old is the oldest buck I’ve ever seen or taken in this area. I’ve had all my trophies’ teeth aged. Jeff, your practical and comprehensive tactics on management, stand placement, and hunting smart have been the most helpful in my journey. Thank you.

Thanks Jeff your advice over the years has help me a ton on my 40 acres I improve it every year little by little. Iv owned this dream 40 for about 12 years and the last 3 years iv harvest some of the biggest bucks of my life I still have issues that need to be addressed this year I put in a 12ft switchgrass fence around main food plot hopefully that's improves some of my issues bc alot come from I think my woods is to open after logging and been having issues with regrowth but thanks again for all ur info it's helped me alot

For me it’s about creating wildlife habitat for all animals, pollinators, and building topsoil. Deer hunting is just one small part of owning our property. Watching the land heal after years of poor ag farming is extremely rewarding. Wish more land owners were more concerned with stewardship and actually less with killing the biggest buck in the neighborhood. Let go of your ego and it opens up a much bigger picture.

The cool thing is you can do it all at once, like we teach on this channel. However, often say it's not all "about the big bucks", do so because they don't have the ability or experience to manage for big bucks and get unwittingly sucked into projects that actually hinder their efforts for both wildlife and whitetails. We've seen that hundreds of times, in person. It's a true shame...

Totally agree, a well managed/habitat rich 50 acre is better than 200 acres of old mature trees suitable only for lumber.

.5 out of 5. I'm a hard fail. I've spent 10 years playing with 20 acres and have turned it into a doe factory. I went from killing nothing to killing a few does and even few "OK" bucks. After watching your videos for the last few months I now understand that filling my land with does and fawns is not a good thing. I've just purchased the 20 acres to my north (mostly ag) and now have a square 40. I'm looking forward to using your new online tools to help me get a passing score within the next 2 years. Thanks Jeff.

I haven't watched the video yet..but, Oh Crap! Wasn't mentally ready for a surprise quiz....lol But I believe in WHS, and I think I've done well for what I can change for the acreage I have to work with. 90% ag or more...farm owned by my wife's family. But they've been vary generous by letting me put in a lot of switch grass screening and couple acres of food plot space. Big plus,... they're all are nature lover's so when I show them pics of turkey nest and pheasants within the habitat areas I've created in the last couple years they're pretty interested.

Jeff, I agree with most of what you are saying with few exceptions. One would be the blanket statement that if you see less mature bucks during the fall than you do during the summer that always means you are doing something wrong. There are a lot of variables that go into how many mature bucks you will see on your property during the fall. Yes, you can mismanage your plots and herd with that leading to less mature bucks being there. However, my experience has been that the mentality of the mature buck(s) that call your parcel home during the fall really determines how many you can hold. If you have a buck that is very territorial on your 50 acres, its going to be tough to have more than him there during the fall. The immature and other less aggressive mature bucks will filter in and out at night and when the old dog is out playing with the ladies. I'm just saying that that's a broad brush to label every one who loses bucks during the fall dispersal as a management failure. You don't lose them all, but biologically you can't keep them all.

Great video. Not sure if ny land passes the test. Last yr was our 1st yr hunting it. We saw alot of 20:25 bucks including my target buck. He was there alot during daylight. There was 3 other mature bucks that were knockturnal. There was a ton of 1-1/2-3-1/2 yr olds we saw alot. We have 21 acres and saw more bucks than does. Probly 20-25 bucks. Cant wait to see what we have this fall. And alot of our bucks were there summer-winter had 3 new mature bucks show up in oct

Hey Jeff, this was a great presentation with a ton of great information, much appreciated! You mention inside vs outside edge and wanting that inside edge value higher - any particular ratio that you’ve calculated? Say 2:1, etc.? Feel fortunate to have one of those 'all day' stands for bow season here in southern WI, have seen multiple mature bucks midday when rut is going strong. Also can concur on fed public land being quite devoid of diversity in cover. Family hunts northern forest county for gun season, like a deer desert up there! Anyway looking forward to the next vid!🤝

Jeff-most of your videos show mixed ag with wooded stream bottoms. Could you do something that shows how swamp land and various features impact deer movement on a property?
@dancindan85
@dancindan85 2 ай бұрын
I was just wondering if you could do a video on parcels with big power lines that run through the property. Half of the property I hunt on is open hardwoods another quarter is swamp and it has power lines that run through it on the south side. It also has a big ag field that is pretty close. I know you would rather me contact you direct but for us on a budget could you maybe have a video that touches on powerline parcels?

I have a very awesome 20 acres with a gun range in the middle with thickness on both sides no food plots its only 166 yards wide. East to the west entrance only. Its a challenge to enter. We only use the gun range for people and the deer get the rest. I have 120 class bucks bed right next to the range . I have camera footage of us leaving and then the bucks come out. I use everything you say. I have 6 to 8 Doe with over 25 different bucks i get on cameras its weird i have different bucks in the back half than the front. I am trying to get them to work the length of the property but its hard . I am adding a food plot by the house across the creek so I can pull them from other areas at night to store them on my land is that a bad idea

Im also only working with 10acres and am surrounded by hundred of acres of flat AG. With alot of these strategies ive already seen an uptick in terms of small game around the property. Alot more birds, few does on camera, couple moose and the pesky coyote or fox. Depending on how your property is set up these practices WILL increase animal numbers.

@Official1616Club I finally have Bobwhites back on property. I don't have the AG mine is all big woods urban. My problem is not enough land to have mature bucks staying on property.
@Official1616Club
@Official1616Club 2 ай бұрын
Thats my problem aswell not enough space to hold big mature bucks on a regular basis. Im working with the "pass threw" type strategy, where I've started to plant as much cover as I can to hopefully get a bit more action in terms of does and fawns closer to property and then because of a huge food source (spilled grain at silos) across the range road im hoping to have a small pass threw food plot and water source I can put a stand over as they move in the morning or evening to that food from the AG fields and windbreak treelines behind my property.
@nathanwells8094
@nathanwells8094 2 ай бұрын
The pass threw is what I'm working on too. The deer loves the brassica I planted last year. I got a few photos of a 10 point and a 12 point near the end of the season. So I'm hoping that they found the food last year and are hanging around again this year
