Minds blown! you have simplified this and it all makes sense now. The game doesn't really teach you the mechanics so always found maging hella confusing and random. Now when i see the word sink iam picturing a kitchen sink and the runes as plates XD. Hype for the next part!

So do all items begin with 0 sinks despite their level of an item or varying characteristics? Another question what does it mean when you got a failure and minus sink despite having +2 free sink to use

Is sink available counted from the weapons maximum stats? Or from whatever was crafted?

how do i know the amount of sink space my item has ? just add the max boundary stats of the item ?

The sink depend only on what changes you've done to the item, the max stats don't matter
