ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!

Sorry about the dog attack Cammy. As a person who watches farming media it just feels like this year dog attacks have been more frequent. Something has to be done about that law, it just feels like people don’t care about the livelihood of farmers or the welfare of their stock.

I know it’s easy to worry that things get repetitive Cammy, but remember that there is always new people and a lot are seeing it for the first time and those of us true long term fans enjoy everying familiar or new. As a viewer who is neurodivergent I love repetition, I love seeing the same processes over and over, I find a comfort and calmness in it. I usually save your videos for bed time because of it. I’m so sorry about the dog attacks of your poor sheep. The laws 1000000% need to be changed! Fools should be allowed to own animals that can cause harm to other animals!

I raise dairy goats, and I have one that the neighbor's dog chewed one of her ears completely off, leaving a 1.5" (3.75cm) circle of skull exposed. It took a couple of months of antibiotics and cleaning the fly larvae out of the healing wound, but she recovered, and the skin closed over the bone. This year, eight years later, she gave me twins again. I hope your ewe recovers as well.

Hi Cammy, I felt so bad for that poor sheep. You should at least contact your government representatives. Send them pictures of the attacked sheep and document how many attacks and the financial loss for this whole year. Get other farmers to do the same thing. In the US, we don’t have open ground laws but in the city, state and national parks and in local neighborhoods, dogs all have to be on a leash. One other thing, I think a lot of us just enjoy watching you and Lizzy work with your sheep. We, of course, love to see wee Jock and wee Angus. And I just enjoy listening to you and Lizzy talk. New viewer here, I hope that people protest about aggressive dogs and owners that really do not actually care about the dogs they make a havoc. Your so good to your live stock pups and they clearly are incredibly well trained which is why they are great. I have been attacked by a pittie while on my pony horse 4 years ago and that was the most traumatic experience I've had from a fierce dog that the owner didn't even care to get it. I hope it doesn't happen again to your livestock

Hi Cammy, yesterday we had hounds from a local fox 'trail' stray onto our land. There were at least 12 hounds on our 4 acres. We have sheep, pigs, rabbits and cats all could have been seriously hurt yesterday if we hadn't seen them. I have never been so scared for my animals safety before and I don't want to feel like that again. We had the police and dog handlers out because the huntsman left some of their hounds behind. The reason I'm telling you this and hoping that it's a topic you could bring some attention too. We live in modern world now where things like hounds don't need to used for predator control. Locally we've seen peoples cats be killed by the hounds. Do you think that as a sheep farmer and someone who has suffered injury and death to their stock by dogs that more needs to be done to stop it?

I think it's so important that you show all aspects of your work. Cammy, you do a brilliant job at that. I really appreciate it, and don't mind a bit. It's awful that the law in the Scotland doesn't prevent this. The local government and the MPs need to see this video and the others you've made. We have bad bastards here, even folk born into our area, that think it is their God given right to be going out with these bastard dogs bogging, drowning and savaging sheep. They even go out through the night and take off signs and gates. The cops are hopeless! Something needs to be done!

Don't know about the laws where you are but with your pinings/other ones you know will die before sale you might be able to sell them privately for animal food (not to companies but directly to the owners). Like where I used to live previously in Wales I used to get pinings and lambs that were stillborn/weak/wet got to them etc from a farmer I knew for my dog & cat (as I feed them raw) and a few guys I know in the UK and Ireland Republic have similar arrangements to feed their pet giant snakes, monitor lizards, crocodiles/alligators, big cats etc. Only time we wouldn't get the lambs is if they've recently been medicated like wormed, dipped etc. So normally the guys we have arrangements with if they know it's not gonna make it would avoid treating it so it's clean for us when we can pop over and get it. How it was for me and those guys is we weren't buying the lamb's. The farmer gifts us the lamb's and we gift them some money/cover some super expensive driving costs if you get what I mean... It wouldn't cover the looses but it would close the gap/reduce losses for them as they aren't having to pay to remove them, saving the money on trying to medicate them to keep them going long enough to go to market plus as for people like us a whole lamb (no matter its condition) is still valuable you can "charge" more p/kg then they would go for at market. And typically people with those animals or feeding their dogs raw got the money to pay a fair bit more then the £10 the market would pay for the pining one at the beginning in the hedge, like most I know would happily gift £30 for just her or a bit less per head if getting multiple or £10-£12 for still borns etc. Just make sure to point out if you got any implants like cobalt and if so where they are so the owner can remove before feeding off. Don't know how many/if any people are around you that would be interested but might be something worth looking as even if it's for any lambs you come across already dead as long as it's not in bad heat and hasn't started to rot you chuck it in a cold room (or if winter when it's cold anyway just somewhere dry) you can phone them up to see if anyone wants to come and gift some money before having to call for it to be officially removed. Just a thought.

The cluelessness and selfishness of so many of my fellow dog owners never ceases to amaze me! With their careless disregard for their pet’s INSTINCTS to chase, catch, and kill things (does your pet chase a ball or toy? Does it rip up or shake its toys? Does it chase things at all? It HAS the hunting instinct to KILL!). These boneheads are also the ones who fail to clean up their dog’s poop, left about in public as if it is a natural part of the landscape (it’s not!). And the laws to punish offenders, even if caught on camera, are never serious enough to punish the, for the damage. Off leash dogs are a MENACE, full stop!

Drawing lambs, sick lambs and when things go wrong is sad but the most interesting because we all learn from that. Zoom in videos on the lambs will always be the winner. What i would be interested of hearing more of is lamb behavior. When do the lamb start to scream, how do they react when they lose their lambs, or when they speak with mum after birth. It’s detestable the dogs that run loose and terrorize stock. I have 3 dogs and I’m in control of my dogs. I realize it’s harder out in the country. Do the owners just not respect the farmer? Do you run into the same dogs attacking or is it some city people letting dogs run loose ? Can you shoot a dog or dogs caught in the act of brutalizing your sheep ? I don’t really notice any repetitive stuff. There maybe lots of watchers who need refreshing. You’re a great person, husband, dad, sheep farmer, mate and a citizen. So sad that dog attacks are as common as they are. Someone near me(suffolk) was caught for repeatedly letting their dogs worry sheep. Prosecuted, fined, banned from keeping dogs and the dogs destroyed. Don't give up on reporting attacks.

Glad you're enjoying the videos! Shaving the backside is what we call Crutching - it's the dirtiest area, might have some birthing fluids or blood that attracts flies and can put sheep at risk of flystrike.

Off lead dogs aren't the problem, it's the assholes that don't manage and let their dogs run unattended or properly train their dogs in a responsible way. One of the issues are these force free/positive only dog people who are getting electronic collars banned, these are effective training tools that are not abusive if used correctly, their use can condition dogs to leave sheep and other livestock alone. We lost 11 sheep in one night to two dogs that our neighbors allowed to be a menace and roam unattended.

Your comments about the lambs are just going to die made think about puppies that don't survive. There is a thing called "failure to thrive syndrome" in puppies. Something is internally wrong, and nothing you will do will save them. I am sure it is the same with sheep.

As an other angry dog owner who enjoys your "adventures" with the sheep but not being let down by dog owners who cannot keep control of their dogs thank you for honestly showing the consequences. Chances are that the owner of the dog involved usually does try to keep it securely fenced in or on a lead in the vicinity of livestock but failed to train it to avoid livestock, so that when it did find itself free to chase that is what it did. Owners fail to keep the dog on a lead for so many reasons. Leads break or get pulled away. Dogs being held on leads trip their owners or pull them over. They come across sheep unexpectedly on a walk when the owner thinks a lead is not necessary. They escape from cars and gardens not wearing a lead, and anyway the owner is not with them. They run off after rabbits and the owner loses them. Maybe the law does need changing and not just as it recently has been to have harsher legal penalties AFTER the event, but just making the law that they should be on a lead just gives a let out to people who cannot be bothered to effectively train their dog and would penalise well trained dogs and their owners and most of all STILL be ineffective because even people with strongest intention to keep the dog on a lead will often fail. Certainly the law should not ban e-collars, probably the most effective way of training pet dogs NOT to chase sheep. You want dogs under control, not necessarily on a lead.

Morning Cammy - sorry to see the impact of of idiots who can't control their dogs. While the dog control laws in Scotland are not the best but do still state dogs shouldn't be out of control. The number of owners that don't exercise effective control of their dogs is outrageous. It's not hard - use a lead unless you know can control the surroundings and know exactly how the dog behaves in that setting. Right to roam is awesome but people need to be responsible 😢 13:15

Farming isn't always exciting, life isn't always exciting. This is some of the problem with social media, it promotes excitement when the mundane is well, commonplace. I appreciate your candid rounds. The minutia of daily chores is where we should all expect to live. Dog attacks are simply unacceptable. People, get your dogs on lead and under control. If you want to run them off leash, buy and fence a property to hold them, farmers build fences to hold in their animals, not hold out dogs, wild animals are going to come through what we can afford to build. I ahve a suggestion tho too! Cammy, I think you need to get some different animals to watch the sheep 24-7. For instance, a burro for each field. Donkeys are protective, and even aggressively defend any other animals they are pasturedd with. Also, Llamas are used in the US as Guard Animals. They are dangerous too, but sheep have no problem sharing space with doneys or llamas, while they will at least scar the pee out of most aggressive animals seeking to worry your sheep. I don't know if they can help against to Fox issues, but they certainly can make any dog or human seeking to interfere with the sheep very sorry they tried to approach! Maybe speak to Katy and her wife at @rightchoiceshearing about this idea? Oh, and some might suggest getting CAMELS for this, but, I'd think they wouldn't do well in Scotland, while donkeys and llamas are already there and do nicely in the environment.

I’m Canadian and was a responsible Golden by Retriever owner. In Canada at least on the Atlantic provinces there are very places you can walk off lead, like proper hiking trails and then only if your dog has proper recall. We never or I never have seen, any of our trails crossing over people’s farm property. Many dog owners have fenced backyards for that final pee of the night. So very sorry for you and the poor little lamb. That is not acceptable. Trail cameras I think are your answer. 😢

Dogs are certainly dirty and people let them lick their faces. I know you don’t have the time, but I nursed a ewe back to health who had the skin ripped off behind the ear down to and puncturing the parotid gland. Shed time with daily saline spraying and triangular bandage dressings. The would healed by granulations. You could actually see the new skin growing into the raw wound, which was quite fascinating. She was one of those ewes, with reasons best known to herself, who would run to greet me and join me in the daily flock inspection. Sentiment got in the way so I kept her too long resulting in her last lambing being complicated by lambing sickness.

Once an animal has spent time with you and you have earned their trust they don't forget. You become family, part of the herd/flock. Your ewe remembered you helped her.... An animals trust is a special sort of bond. I knew a massive black Angus bull who followed me around as a teenager while I did chores. He watched out for me and waited patiently for me to finish. He knew he would get an apple or carrot and I would scratch his itchy spots on the top of his head and along his spine... He had been a bottle baby, handraised so the farmer could collect sperms for artificial insemination or so he loaded easily onto a truck to go visit his girls during breeding season. I greeted him when I got home from school every afternoon "g'day gorgeous". Those two words became his signal to come to the gate whenever he heard them. Just like a dog. I've been around animals most of my life and most of the time if you are gentle and calm they pick up on your energy. Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

Cammy I truly love your channel. I really enjoy your honesty of raising sheep, the costs of everything, the good, bad and ugly of a very hard job. I’ve especially enjoyed how you’ve taken us along through your shearing, preg testing, educating us on the importance of a good sheep dog, herding your sheep, delivering lambs, issues within a herd etc. I appreciate that you’ve shared your personal life with us and when Lizzie entered your life and those two handsome sons that just brighten our days. I just wanted to say thank you as you’ve given me a lot of education and I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for farmers and the work they do 24/7. Cammy is there anything we as subscribers can do to help in getting these laws changed regarding off leash dogs and their attacks of livestock? Petitions? Maybe a station or two need to do a broadcast on this issue, today the attack may be on sheep, tomorrow it could be on a kid/person, a pet on a leash. Best wishes to you and your family. ❤❤

I wonder if you could do a program with your sheep at the local school? Teach the kids what is going on in the fields around the town. Then they go home and tell their parents about how important it is to keep dogs on leashes and not to trespass onto your farmland? I know it’s not your responsibility, but it might be worth getting more of the community invested in local agriculture. I wish law enforcement would do more too.

It's really interesting to see the difference in how you work your sheep compared to how he does. Totally different world , different kind of sheep... I think you're both Very interesting to watch. Sandi Brock (Sheepishly Me) has some interesting techniques. The sheep are kept in a huge, airy barn, which prevents fly strike & coyote attacks. (Coyotes are N America's answer to Jackals.)

Sent an email recently about 2 dogs in a retail store being aggressive towards each other. Seems in the States no,one can leave there dog at home they believe they can take them everywhere. I don't think that's being a responsible pet owner. You never know when they are going to get pissed off and bite. Won't be long Angus will be walking you will be running more Cammy 😂😂 ❤

Hi Cammy, think the idle jet on your generator needs a clean to stop it hunting, usually located on the top of the carb, just needs poking out 20 min job. Love the videos, might be similar but never exactly the same. Keep up the good work.

Always great content Cammy, can't believe another Dog attack, you're a better man than me with your reaction, the dog owners will know that it happened as the dog will have blood on it but they won't admit to it, the cruelty to the sheep is beyond incomprehensible. Unfortunately once a dog has that in them it won't stop until its stopped.

I'm so tired of dog owners that are ignorant of the genetics of their "face licking" pets. ALL dogs no matter their size or breed have prey drive. Underneath that wee Terrier or Poodle skin is a Wolf. All it takes to set off aggressive behaviour to prey animals is a single trigger moment. I've seen Boston Terriers go for horses in a frenzy as dangerous to them as the horse (and human trying to seperate them!). Even the most normally obedient and biddable dog can snap back to that Wolf gene. They must be kept on a leash anywhere near livestock. Especially those pets that aren't habituated to living on farms next to livestock.

I am fairly new, but I am so engaged by your vlogs, your family, yourself and watching the Sheep experiencing their Farm lives and going to auction etc, I am also watching every vlog from the beginning 4 years ago. I love the Shearing, but I also really enjoy the high intensity and dramas, the successes and beauty of Lambing time too. And yes, the laws need to be altered, and I also think that tons and counties that allow dogs to be owned, [hopefully they need to be registered too,] should have to pay a small amount into a fund to compensate farmers and citizens who have endured damage due to dogs being off lead and unsupervised. If ALL owners have to pay for the damage created by a few owners, I suspect the citizens will start demanding more care and responsibility for the not controlled dogs and such attacks as your poor Ewe suffered will become a rare thing. I also suggest creating a fund, and maybe doing a live stream at some point with the intent to raise money for some security cameras to be set up to catch these dogs and their owners when they are entering the fields to worry the sheep. I'd say mobile cameras, with solar power, and some metal poles to set them on so the humans cannot move the cameras to hide their faces, since you rotate fields as needed and can't get THAT many cameras for fields you do not own. I say this because I live on 150 prisint acres in Southwest Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountains [near Abingdon VA for the curious] and we had to set up cameras to catch some escapee dogs who were coming into out yard so they could access a neighbors fields, to worry his pig and his cattle. These dogs are aggressive to our dog, who never is outside unsupervised, yet he would be set out to pee and BANG, a dog is in the yard and acts like they want to fight. So, We caught the dogs on camera and sent the footage to the police, to the owner, and to the local Animal Regulation office. This in turn meant the neighbor was able to sue the dog owners for vet bills from attacks to his calves [who were verytender and new when they were attacked, despicable,] and of course, those dogs were suddenly kept on lead in their yard and are no longer visiting out lands. I hope something can be done to protect your flocks and the properties you're grazing them on. Some people simply find it thrilling to see their dogs chasing 'wild' animals, including sheep and cattle. Bullies abound these days, just disgusting.
