Our veterinary behaviourist recommended this for us (with our own dog) and it's been a life saver - quite literally. Our dog has anxiety manifesting as owner-directed aggression, and this has changed all of our lives, for the better. I'm sad that I can't really cuddle my dog, but I'm happy I get to keep her in my life!!

Well explained. People just assume dog likes things without waiting of consent. Dogs often struggle from allergies or other inflammations and get easily overwhelmed of our affection affection.

OMG have just tried this on a dog that has never been stroked by his owner and though not frightened by humans he has no concept or enjoyment in being stroked. Tried this and counted out 5 aloud and each time he stared at my hand until I stroked again. Once he didn't stare so I didn't stroke. He waited about 30 secs and then stared again so I stroked. After about 3 mins he stood up and so I did. As I got off the floor he covered me in kisses and showered me in affection. Tears by the bucketload. Thank you soooo much for a moment I'll remember for the rest of my life 🙏❤️
