It’s very unfortunate that this kind of stuff happens, the sick freaks who steal someone’s beloved pet either for themselves or to make a quick buck have earned their spot in hell. Just recently my moms dog was either stolen out of our backyard or the person who found her isn’t planning on returning her (she has her tags and was still pretty young, we hadn’t had her microchipped yet) We can’t find anywhere she could get out in the yard, so it’s like she just vanished out of thin air- no clue how she got out or if someone else got in. We’re hoping once the animal shelter opens back up tomorrow they’ll give us a call, and we’re keeping a sharp eye on Craigslist and the lost/found pets Facebook for our area. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time it’s happened either- we used to have a cat named Toast and she slipped out of the house. We went out and searched for her, and one day we came back home to her collar lying in the street in front of our house. Those bastards knew who she belonged to and where she lived, but never returned her. To this day we haven’t seen a single trace of her.

Yeah, that seems unlikely tbh. We tend to forget how super-reliant we humans are on our sense of vision, we give it a huge priority over everything else. ogs are different; not only is their eyesight (generally speaking) not as good at differentiating as we are, they depend much more upon their sense of smell, and after six years it seems unlikely that a dog would recognise it's owner from across the room as soon as it entered. In fact the dog seemed pretty hyped up before it even entered the room and saw it's owner. And so I suspect that the scene was staged; the meeting was replayed and the dog already knew the owner was there, hence it's visible excitement. I suspect they did that because they would have been disappointed at the initial reaction, in which the dog would not have recognised its owner, might even have backed away, and only after being in close proximity and sniffing for 15 seconds or so would the memories have been triggered. This doesn't make for as exciting TV I guess, and viewers might think it underwhelming. Personally I would think that an explanation and the truth would have made the encounter even more moving as the recognition dawns and the reaction comes. But yeah, this is a set-up because that's not how dogs work.

I picked up a stray one afternoon at work. He was howling in anxiety and I realized I had heard him howling early in the morning when I got to work, so he'd been lost for a while. He looked at me through the window and I just knew he was asking for help. I brought him in, gave him water, and called the pound. They had someone come and get him. He was quite an old dog and my heart was broken to think maybe he'd been dumped because he was old and maybe had health issues that someone didn't want to pay for. At his age I knew he was not likely to be adopted. I found his picture on the pound website and prayed so hard that his family would go and bring him home. The next day his listing was gone - they had come to get their boy. I was surprised by how joyful and relieved I felt to know he was home. I can imagine your three days were very frantic. Years ago I transferred in Tucson from a Denver plane, bound for Sacramento for my mother's wedding (at 80+). A passenger in front of me, in a spiffy cowboy hat, suit, belt, boots, (I wear the same but significantly scruffier. I actually do ride horses and muck about in the wilds) took his seat. Looked like a Saturday Night Square Dance Clubber to me. Reg'lar dude. With a grin, I nudged the lady next to me, said, "Watch this", poked the back of his seat, and said, "Hey, you". No response. "Yeah, you", a little louder, more poking. No response. "In the hat. Hey". Jab. Jab. He finally stands up, turns around, all wounded dignity, and says, "Excuse me, sir, do I know you?". Head down, hat covering my face, I said, "All my life", at which point he realized who I was, the voice, probably, finally. My brother hadn't seen me in ten years. We never wrote or talked on the phone. He hollered at his wife at the back of the plane, said look who's here, everyone had a good laugh, seats were shuffled so we could all sit together, and it's my favorite memory of my brother, as we rarely saw one another since he left home in 1964. Like, maybe four, five times in 40+ years. The groom, a great guy, had secretly arranged for us all to wind up sitting together on that plane, but I scotched it by calling for a window seat a few nights before. It all turned out great. It was the best time we'd had together since we were little kids, that two-hour plane ride. He took ill and passed away a few years ago. RIP, brother.

I hope they are doing well !! God Bless the rescuers ! Love and respect to this man who didn't give up AND wanted her back. Many that are found after a couple years the owners don't want them because they either have another dog or they just don't care. Poor babies.
