In the 1990s, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) created the Dog's Nose Program with the goal of developing an explosives detection system as capable as a dog who had been trained to detect explosives.

My neighbor was a TV repair technician, he had bought a bag of parts and on the way home in metro he gets arrested and locked up till an specialist can confirm he's not a treat, which left his family frightened till next morning 'cause they didn't even let him make a phone call. Now this happened one day before annual revolution day which causes a few million people gather in capital. so don't go buying electronic parts or weird chemicals when a big festival of some sort is going to happen in next few days around you. Police might not have a bomb specialist where they check your belongings.

There are air sniffers like the one at the beginning of the video in the NYC subway system. They're labelled "EPA" so as not to worry the tourists xD But finding info on what they, specifically, do? Technically, they are there to monitor the air quality of public and mass transit.

My condolences for everyone who didn't type "For a school project" after you searched how to make bombs undetectable from police dogs

The question isn't who would win... It's who do you trust? I trusted the dog although he had a bad habit of pawing at it.

Everyone knows that the human with the mechanical detector would have been more successful if during the search, she had wagged her tail.

Imagine if we had some tech that just enhanced human's smelling abilities to be similar to a dog's. But let's be real, dogs are man's best friend for a good reason.

To really know if there's bomb detectors, just leave a bag of bomb smelling-compounds. If there's one, you'll be the first ones to know. :D

That's actually a very active area of research. In the future it might not be dogs vs. machines, but dogs + machines.

I regard this to be irrelevant. No one's Rights should be subject to a human's opinion on the contents of the mind of a dog.

There's a reason it's called an "opinion" . Just because someone thinks something works doesn't mean it's gonna be implemented.
