Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this KZbin channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. We planted more wheat than normal . Our idea is that with the high imput costs for next year we are going to grow less corn . We will grow more wheat and beans along with double crops after wheat. For our farm the wheat acres are more profitable when we can get a decent double crop. The wheat also builds up the topsoil with plenty of organic matter . Most farms stay away from wheat which makes the local demand go up as well . This fall was wet so most people didn't get to plant wheat we were lucky and we planted early. We were able to get 2000 acres in . Great video !

Hope your wind was not bad. We are 70 miles south of Elkhart KS and had greater than 60 mph most of Wednesday with 90 mph gust. Our last rain was 5 months ago so likely will not make dryland wheat in 2022. There probably will not be a bumper HRW crop! Our irrigated was burned back to the ground except Notill in corn stubble.

I remember as a kid being out in the pasture on the family farm when our dog caught a gopher. A few of the cattle took offense and gave chase to the dog. I wonder if it was the smell of blood that triggered them?
