I started smoking at 13 yrs old. So addicted I was not me without a cig. My motivation to quit was to stay healthy for my only child how ever I still craved my cigs so I took another approach and I made myself stay acutely aware if the damage being done to my health with every cig I smoked. After about 8 months of doing that I discovered I truly did not want to smoke and I was 50 yrs old. The self therapy technique was so successful I threw the cigs away and never had even one hour ever again wanting a cig. It was like I had never smoked I was free of the craving for good. I'm 82 now.

Congratulations! Me too, same thing. I LOVED smoking, smoked three packs a day. Until I was an adult college student, early 50s. The student nurses were required to choose a health issue and do a presentation about it for graduation. One group chose smoking, and titled theirs "You Don't Always Die." The pictures they put up were horrible, and THAT did the trick. See, I didn't care about dying, even a heart attack didn't stop me; but being disfigured was another thing altogether. I quit cold turkey in 2010. God willing, I'll never smoke again 🙏

I certainly can empathize with him. He's been through some awful stuff. Grief is very hard on one's body. Quitting smoking is so,so hard, especially if you're under stress, and he is. He has children though, and if he dies prematurely this will be tragic for them. I hope he will be told this, if he isn't able to understand this.

Dog, I smoked 4 packs of Marlboro reds every day for 30+ years. When I decided to quit I quit cold turkey. It took 3 days before I got over the crave to smoke but it took longer than that to get past the urge. A trick I learned to help was to put small candies in my shirt pocket so when the habit of reaching for a cigarette came I had something to put in my mouth. I used jolly ranchers and it worked. That was in 2012, haven't smoked since. Good luck to you because criminals need you. 🛐

My dad was a smoker since a very young age (8 years old). Later on in his life he would be smoking three packs a day until one day when he was much older he had an encounter with Jesus Christ in a dream, he stopped smoking and also stopped drinking. Glory to God 🙌 he died about a year later because his pacemaker stopped functioning but the day he died I know for sure that he went to be in paradise with our Father in heaven. I miss him so much but he ended his days a much better man clean and sober from all those chemicals and addiction. I pray for Dog and hope that he really stops smoking and also pray for him to feel the Lords embrace during this difficult time with the passing of his wife…May God give him the strength, comfort him and may the Lords peace be with him at all times.

Thank you for this episode and for treating a grieving person so compassionately. Would be that I was as fortunate.

Dog might be surprised to find out he can quit smoking. I had a widow maker heart attack. My last cigarette was right before it. No relapsing, craving, etc. I smoked for 40 years.

Dawg if you read this please listen! My dad smoked for years and years and nearly died when he was 57! He was told he could have 5 more years of life if he would just stop smoking. Like you he started very young at 20 years old and associated so much with cigarettes. He put those cigarettes down and never smoked again after he had to have a quadruple bi pass surgery. He lived to be 81 almost 82 years old! He outlived my mom and ironically what actually got him was ALS and nothing at all to do with smoking! You or anyone can do it! People stop addictions everyday. He was like you,a real man! He was a believer in himself and most importantly God! He always told me if you try your best God will more than meet you in the middle! It is so true! I have gone through many things in life and found that to be my dads legacy ! He made sure I knew how good God is! He never fails you. So like my dad said ,just do your part and God will more than meet you in the middle! Where your strength fails , God will carry you the rest of the way! Good luck and Gods bless!!!

My mom died of lung cancer at the young age of 53. She started smoking when she was 18. It was aweful seeing her go from the life of the party kind of woman to a weak little, had to live with a oxygen machine attached to her 24/7 & could barely walk or even stand.😥 Im 71 & never even tried to smoke. I cannot stand the smell either. I pray for all those who are addicted to cigarettes, drugs etc🙏🏽 its a constant battle for them & I pray they get the strength to beat it

Rose, you're such a sweet and smart young Woman and you have impressed me with your maturity. I wish you nothing but the best in life, but with your spirit and tenacity there's no doubt in my mind that you won't achieve anything you go after. And Duane, I send my condolences for your recent loss. I can't imagine how hard that was and still is to deal with, along with filming episodes and carrying on with life's daily struggles, while being in the spotlight. But I have a thought for you. I can understand how you'd be scared of what health problems you have and want to just give up and go be with your Beth and other loved ones, but you know she would want you to give it your best shot and pull yourself out and up from the obstacles, because you're 'not done yet'. You can look at this as an opportunity to refocus and reinvent yourself in your coming years. You have the magic within you to do this, and we have the faith in you that you can. Take care of yourself first, then and only then can you go out and help others. You got this!

Dog has been through so many trials and tribulations but one thing is for sure I believe he can do this! He is always going to be a hero and he will be there for his family if he sticks by what his doctors and therapists tell him. Go Dog Go! You got this!!
