Absolutely addicted to sea stories! This is a gem and the narrator has a nice, storytelling, unobtrusive voice. Thank you.

Took me away to another time. Had quite a few laugh out loud moments. King had an endearing character. A must listen.

@2hours 40 minutes he talks about hard bread. As an interesting footnote it was typically referenced as "hard tack" and often full of beetle larvae as mentioned and out of necessity it wasn't unheard-of to soften it under the sailors arm

I cant imagine getting on a boat with a bunch of rough strangers and just going off around the world. No money. No friend only the hope of kindness. This kid doesn't present himself as brave or tough but he really was. Or very thoughtless one lol

There were a few benches with holes (called the heads) near the front of the ship. In a larger ship the officers and captain had more private facilities.

I think it's shameful that a young man given the opportunity to visit so much of a world few at that time could even imagine and the only observations he recalled were that of drinking, brawling and confinement....what a waste.

Ronald Ronca Did you ever go adventuring? Git Git Git I'll make a sailor of you yet.
@johnmiller52254 жыл бұрын
What do you think seaman did on ships and on shore leave, hold hands and sing Cum buy ya? They ranted and roared like true sailors! Brawls and whores and chains and floggings were the name of that game. Go back to watching Oxygen and WE.

@@johnmiller5225 wow John Miller what harsh comment on someone else's comment. Lol you're like one of these rough sailors in the story.
