Today I’m building a quick and easy DIY water tower doggie waterer for Olive’s doghouse. This is the followup from her doghouse build. It’s a basic build using scrap steel left over from my welding cart project.
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions☺
If you guys like the videos I make and would like to help support the channel at no additional cost to you. Please consider doing some of you Amazon shopping through this link. I may receive a small commission for any items you purchase. It’s greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Joe

I've made a similar water bowl system for my pets. One thing I added was a float and water level flag. 1 Drill a small hole at the highest point you fill to. 2 get a piece of stiff wire 15 inches long and put it in the whole. 3 Get a cork from a wine bottle and place it on the INSIDE end of the wire. 4 Bend the wire in the middle 90 degrees.... move along and bend the wire again at 90 degrees. (So you have a U shape half inside half outside) 5 add a flag or another cork to the outside end of the wire. paint it a bright color.. Now you can tell if the water level is getting low from a distance.

That's refreshing to have a channel respond to a comment, thanks homesteadeconomics! Anyhow, this fellow is so talented. I appreciate his attention to details. That makes all the difference. He has some good tools too. I have only recently started tool collecting. Tools make life easier. For instance, a skil saw, compared to hand saw. Each have their place. Welding, and cutting with a torch may be in my future. I hope this ain't an insult...homesteadeconomics reminds me of Chris Stevens from Northern Exposure television show. What i mean is artistic, with a hands on, practical approach.

I know you have a roof over the dog house but build a roof over the dog area. A couple of roofing panels and four posts. Slant it to a gutter to catch the rain water to fill up the dogs water barrel. Self sustaining and not connected to the main water supply. (Win Win)..Ta Daaaa Olive will have her own cool pad..Get even fancier by putting in some of those solar panels and putting a small fan in her house. I dug a hole under my dog house so he could crawl under there and cool down as well and with the roof over the hole area it would stay dry under there. Your Videos rock !!

Now that is one lucky puppy! New dog house and now auto water, hahaha and is a GREAT idea and being on a well am with you about hooking things up, we have auto waters for the horses and the one has tilted over the years and now has a steady drip. More a pain in neck to look at then anything but does make that spot in horse yard soggy.
@homesteadonomics
@homesteadonomics 7 жыл бұрын
Greg Wade yes, that's always a worry of mine...just afraid to drain them and have to haul water in. Will probably add some harvesting off of the shop roof once i get the inside workable👍🏻 But if your horse trough only has a small drip for that size of tank that's sounds like it's not too bad considering the size...just a drop in the bucket per se😉

I will check them out. I have been using poultry nipples fastened to gallon jugs with great success...but the chickens love drinking water freely from dishes. They get their waddles wet, and shake it off. Very fun to watch! I'd like to do what you have done, but with their own rain barrel. Maybe even put them up a solar panel. Happy chickens lay happy eggs.

Hi Joe. First off, sorry about the long comment. I'm a new subscriber :). I was watching my buddy Jake's KZbin channel iamjake (he lives out of his Jeep Wrangler and is on a 50 State Road Trip with his dog Annie) and saw one of your videos in the suggested video section. I watched it and was pretty much hooked then spent the past 3 days binge watching all of your 178 videos. I really like your channel and the variety of topics and builds you cover. I want to thank you as you have inspired me to think about some projects to do myself, have giving me food for thought about being more self-reliant, and how I also can capture rain water as my water costs just continue to rise. I really appreciate the quality of your videos and know firsthand via Jake just how much time and effort goes in to making them...from setting up the camera for shots/camera angles, take and retakes, moving the camera, fetching the camera and then the time to edit, render and upload. You have a real passion for this Joe and I am very glad I stumbled across your channel and am now part of the amazing community you have created. **I do have a couple of questions for your next Q&A: 1) What is your age? 2) How many acres is your homestead? 3) What camera do you use? 4) Do you save all of your video footage? 5) What editing software do you use? Thank you again, Ken Nelson PS - I just sent your an email to kangaroojoe

I can vouch for the abundance of very large and plentiful mosquitoes in Minnesota. First hand experience in the boundary waters canoe area. They sounded like a horse fly inside of a canoe while portaging between lakes. Their bites raise huge welts. Only the fittest mosquitoes survive the winters up there, and now they are SUPER MOSQUITOES!

...wow...another cool looking project... My concern might be the opening you lost the cap for.....cut some plastic screen and even rubber band...broccoli rubber and is perfect.... Any way here in Michigan the water tower would be a mosquito nest in just a few days or try even a "Red Solo Cup ".... To be honest tho you need the air exchange for the watering the connector pipe.. Overall tho a good lookin project you have... I see it in the greenhouse soon tho...self watering gutter gardens are in your future... I enjoy your creatful way of looking at things...enjoy your day...

does it have a float to refill the bowl? I need something like this for placing it outside my dog´s house . . the water bowl gets contaminated by dirt all the time . . . specially on a windy day . . so I was wondering if a little roof over the bowl would help . . Im trying to design it .. the bowl automatic re-fill would be an extra feature . . good video greetings
