As a NY Puerto Rican, Fat Joe is wrong on so many levels. 1) He wrong when he drops “N” bombs. 2) Assisting in the development of a genre like Hip Hop is not creation. 3) He rarely (if ever) acknowledges that the Latino community are beneficiaries of many battles fought by the Black community. Joe has difficulty with respecting Black culture in the apparent attempt to “keep it street”. Joe demonstrates a significant immaturity with his inability to respect his role in Hip Hop with respect to Black creators in the style. I remind Hispanics all the time. Start and end with respect. Growing up in a mostly Black neighborhood doesn’t make you a Black American. Respect the culture and stay in your lane. Proximity doesn’t imply membership. While Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans contributed to hip-hop’s development, the foundation of hip-hop is undeniably rooted in Black American culture. Hip-hop was born in the 1970s in the South Bronx, where African American youth used their experiences of systemic oppression and cultural traditions to create the genre. Rapping evolved from African American oral traditions like “playing the dozens” and spoken word poetry, while DJing and turntablism were pioneered by Black innovators like Grandmaster Flash. Breakdancing and graffiti also stem from Black cultural expression. Jamaican influences, such as DJ Kool Herc’s sound system culture, and Puerto Rican contributions, especially in breakdancing and graffiti, were important, but they complemented what Black Americans created. Hip-hop’s foundation is deeply tied to African American struggles, music (funk, soul, and R&B), and social activism, making it a distinctly Black American creation. Recognizing this doesn’t erase others’ contributions but honors the true origins of the culture.

As a Puerto Rican male that was raised in The Bronx in the 80's -South Bronx; Hunts Point to be EXACT. all I know is, FBA are the creators of EVERYTHING in life. I have accepted that. My life is much easier now. I don't let society tell me otherwise. From the Bible to the creator of the elevator. Everyone wants to be seen and acknowledged. So all my flowers are grown solely for you FBA. My culture could never measure up to such a ruler. So why even attempt? I wake up everyday knowing that without FBA I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't be anything in life. All hail and praise to the foundation. I want to thank ya'll for ALLOWING me this comment. It's an honor to be allowed a few words in your culture.
