Might be getting a pup soon. Great videos! Question, do you crop the ears yourself? Or vet?

I was given one of the best Dogos. She was given to me to match MY personality. She is chill, listens, doesn’t bark unless she is playing with her smaller older brother(a 2yo American Eskimo). She is so quiet, she doesn’t have a lick of unruliness in her. She is 4months. I just got her and think I am going to start getting her on the roll for training now. I am about to move to a nice warm state and retired military. I am looking into getting starting a kennel and ambassador for the breed. I like what you said. One thing that I have learned with people when it comes to dogs. A lot of people want that pretty dog, or dog because it looks cool and buff. They don’t do research, don’t have time for the dog, and can’t keep up with the dogs needs. Then the dogs end up in a shelter which across America we have a HUGE problem with that. Great Pyrenees are high up on that list. This woman and her channel is valuable knowledge. I hope my kennel grows and grows with the knowledge that I have learned from you. You are always spot on.

This is so true, I have a female German Shepherd and when she was a puppy she was always so rough and drivey so we were always afraid of socializing her. We took her to obedience training when we finally had enough and by that time it was a little too late. She is fine now but socializing a dog is key, she is fine with us and in the home but a new person can't just show up in our home because it becomes a problem. Can't wait to get a Dogo, hope to one day and definitely won't make the same mistakes.

I adopted one, he's either poorly bred or a pit mix but he is primarily dogo. He was 10 mos and completely untrained and I was his 4th home. He's very reactive both dog reactive and wary of strangers.ill have had him 2 years next January. He is fearful and we make lots of progress with structured walks and runs in the woods. He's muzzle conditioned to a leerburg, my big question being what besides desensitization and counterconditioning to the triggers can I do about his lack of confidence. Is he capable of being fully rehabilitated when he was not trained at all til he was 10 mos? He was 2 in April

If your dog was not properly socialized during the two main socialization, periods and puppyhood, all you can do is manage the condition. You really can’t roll back the clock because those particular psychologically sensitive times shape the dog for its full life. For confidence building, I recommend search/rescue scent Training.

We rehomed a Dogo five months ago. I take her on a 2 and a half mile training walk every day. Right on my hip. She was three years old when we Rescued her. Zero training. Takes to it great. Better than our Shepherd rescue. But she is so destructive when she doesn't get her way! And smaller pups, which is pretty much all of them in our neighborhood, breakfast. I just don't know what to do and would love guidance or advice.
@DogoArgentinoUSA2 жыл бұрын
Three things will help. Muscle train your dog so that they cannot eat things they shouldn’t when outdoors. Crate train your dog so there’s a safe space for your dog when you can’t directly supervise them. And exercise them hard and heavy every single day for one to two hours.

So I am getting a dogo n I have 2 small dogs he’s 12 weeks old we are so excited but I’m worried I’ve seen and researched but I do know that socialization with other dogs is a must with this breed and training obviously is going to happen and yes the umbilical cord method does work. I’ve use that on my blue nose pits, but I am worried about the instinct of the Doggo and small animals. What extra advice would you give me so I know that my little dogs are safe.
@DogoArgentinoUSA Жыл бұрын
Don’t ignore any bad behavior around the smaller dogs. If it’s caught early, it can often be fixed. I suggest working with a professional trainer that has experience in large guardian dogs.

Hi Nikole, do you have any pups available? I read a comment that a top breeder was inbreeding their Dogos but did not say who it was. We are looking for a puppy and want to avoid that situation. Any advice?
@DogoArgentinoUSA2 жыл бұрын
To let you know all Dogo‘s are inbred because all purebreds by their nature are inbred. Inbreeding is how you establish a particular look and behavior in a dog. Our breed is rare which means the inbreeding factor is much higher. Zeus is 30% in bred as an example. I am not currently interested in breeding this year

Hi Nikole! Well, I think you are right when you say training MUST start for DA since early age. And what I have experienced with mine is that socialization and getting him into different experiences since he was a puppy was very but very helpful, besides, he was raised by a pack of female Great Danes that went to the same training school and we are friends since then, he is 5 y.o. now and he loves people and he is very gentle with kids, he likes to plays hide and seek and make races with them. Of course, we have had some situations with him in terms of fighting with other dogs, specifically other males, but it was clearly a reaction and it has been under control at the right moment, but always people with no trained dogs are the ones responsible for leaving their dogs unattended and unleashed, our dog is always on a leashed. My point here is that many people see the DA like a very strong puppy and looks cute but I totally agree that these same persons don´t want to make an effort because they don´t have the problem yet, and unfortunately they will see it within a year or less. Engagement is a very important aspect that a DA owner must develop or increase when training. Having a very strong dog is not a simple and light responsibility. That´s why we see a lot of abandoned dogs everyday. Thank you for your information, time, and effort to create consciousness among DA owners or potential ones. Have a dogotastic day you too. Greetings from El Salvador.

Greetings from Virginia! Yes, I am trying to raise awareness that this breed although magnificent, loyal, strong and brave is a great amount of work. So many expect them to be something that they are not. I appreciate your encouragement and welcome your kindness!

Need some help on this...I have a Dog pit mix. We have had her since she was 8 weeks, we started formal training since she was 3 months and she is about 15 months now. I have two other pit mixs that are 5 years old, one boy and one girl. She is attacking my other female dog out of the blue. No snarling, growling, barking, nothing and she will walk up to her and start a nasty fight. I caught it on my home security cameras. Both end up bloody. We no longer let them do anything together unsupervised. I just put up a segregating fence in my yard for when we want to leave them out there unsupervised for 10-15 minutes. It's just so weird because they get along super well, play, chase, play bow and yet out of nowherey dog just attacks them one other female. Also, all of the dogs are fixed. She does come from a blood line that hunts hogs. We have been exercising her every day but yet she was still agresive randomly. We did just change up her food because she wasn't eating enthusiastically (which makes her harder to train) but now adding the wet food seems to help. I, no shit, think she was just hangry. Any tips or tricks from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
@DogoArgentinoUSA3 жыл бұрын
Same sex aggression is common fixed or not because they will want to be higher in the pack order. A separate yard for them when you are not home is the safest solution but be aware girls rarely drop the beef.

That's more of a " choose your own adventure " kind of answer. What dogo you choose and what you do with your dogo ultimately are what determines what happens. My guy does great with kids that aren't afraid, but he sure does have a tendency to get hyper.

This question is not really on this topic but with regard to the Dogo: I thought abou getting an aged Dogo A. in addition to my Dutch Shepherd. But I heard they are very prone to skin cancer due to the skin color? True / wrong? Besides: Agree totally with your opinions. Especially the fact that one should not use fear (e.g. e-collars) as a training instrument as well blind obedience without getting the dog cooled down. But I guess that might be more a problems of the shepherd community as the Dogo ones... ;-)
@DogoArgentinoUSA3 жыл бұрын
Dogos can be prone to skin cancer due to lack of pigment. I do use ecollars because my dogs spend most of our hikes off leash but generally on high intensity tickle vibe - but in the case of imminent danger wouldn’t hesitate to use e-stim. HOWEVER I do not teach a new behavior with eCollars and tend to use gamification instead. Most DAs I see in rescues are actually pretty young (1-3 years seems average); generally owner surrenders when the owner realizes he/she is over their head.

Hi in January i sdopted a dog from the shelter, and the info from the shelter was that she was a 3yr old pit. Well very soon after she came home with me, I knew that their description was WAY OFF. ( Homework begins) She is a young DOGO ARGENTINO 💯 I am not equipped to train her to the point of which I NEED her to be. I have 2 grown children with special needs , a 11yr old, and my elderly mom, my other dog (whose well behaved) of whom I care for. I will not give up on her, she's family. And that's that. I do know from shelter staff that she was ADOPTED and RETURNED. (I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I CAN'T PROCESS THAT, ITS NOT IN ME, OR HOW IM BUILT.) I'm in need of traing help. I came across this and you, I don't know what to do.

So it’s difficult to learn training from a video or a book although not impossible. I actually recommend you try to find the dog club in your area and see about someone who is active with guardian breeds because they are essentially a very specialized breed that needs specialized care. I would not have recommended the breed for someone in your position just because you already have a lot of responsibilities that require your attention.
