We got our pom when she was just 8 weeks old. The night we got her, we set up a playpen with dog bed, some toys, food and water bowl, and pee pad. We are delighted to see that at that age, she's already using the pee pad to do her business. We enrolled her in puppy kindergarten class where she learned basic obedience and socialization. We were also taught how to train her and handle her when she's doing a behavior, so that she'll grow into a well-behaved dog. She's now 6 months. She's very playful and friendly with people and other dogs. She loves to lick and give kisses to people. She's a great watch dog, but she only barks when someone is at the gate. She's a smart, affectionate, and happy dog. The key is patience and constant training.

I adopted my very own Pomeranian, Cubby, who was abandoned in a home and never claimed. He is the sweetest dog I've ever had the privileged to own. I recommend this breed to just about everyone who wants a friendly companion. My Cubby is so smart, loyal, and amazing to have around I can't imagine not having him in my life. Having owned multiple kinds of breeds in the past, the Pomeranian really outshines them all (in my opinion).

But I was also very careful when selecting a breeder; met Reni's Mom, Grandma, and Aunt...so as she grew I saw bits of their personality traits in her. I have another pommie now (Bklyn) and I don't know his breeding background as we got him when he was over a year old. He's now 12 years old and going strong.

Pomeranians can live in any size household - even apartments. Just keep in mind that they are filled with lots of energy and will most likely be running around a lot.

One other thing in warning when getting a Pomeranian! And that also involves those who live in a forest biome: because of today’s Pomeranian’s size, big birds like vultures, owls, hawks, and eagles (for example) can nab a dog like that. Especially if it’s a teacup size and/or puppy. So supervision is extremely important!

I lost both my poms a year ago and 3 weeks apart. They were both 14 yrs old. I've raised poms for 35 yrs and this is the 1st time I'm without at least one..I miss them so much it hurts..I can't find any poms in my area for less than 3500.00..im retired so I cant afford to spend that much..it breaks my heart..I keep in touch with vets, the animal society, and rescues looking for one..I search online only to come across scam after scam..I really need another pom or two..

I lovee our pomeranian, I understand when they say they are selfish and want things their way, like they only like a certain type of food and will go for AGES without food until you give them what they want. But they are gorgeous, their barks are adorable, they are fun and so loving!!

I use to have a pom, he didn't look like these poms :/ he was a bit bigger and his fur was more curlier, but nonetheless he was the sweetest thing in the world and I love him to bits :) I was so heart broken when we had to put him to down. My grandparent’s neighbor remodels houses. He rescued a neglected Pomeranian while at work. Around that time, my dog passed away. I bonded with Bear and he kinda helped me recover. Bear was about 11 years old and acted like a puppy. He loved being picked up, cuddled, and wearing sweaters. Bear suddenly got sick and sadly passed away 2 days before my birthday.

I have read that the Vikings used the larger poms as sled dogs back in the day when they were bigger. Also that they took them when they went on raids and the dogs fought with them. Eventually they traded them to the Germans who used them as herd dogs. I don't know if any of that is true but I suspect it just might be. I have a pom and in her heart she is all those things and more. She is one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned. She sleeps on my pillow every night but when my husband came home from the hospital after his cancer surgery she completely abandoned me and guarded him for a week. She kept the other dogs and cats away from him. Not once did she try to get up and sit next to him but stayed on the floor guarding him day and night until he felt better. She taught herself to chase the cats away when they scratch on the furniture. She helps chase the chickens back in when they get out. She lets me know when a bear is in the yard. She would attack them if I let her. Ok, maybe sometimes she's not a real genius. She kills mice that dare to come into the house. She has ridden on planes with me several times and is always very quiet and polite. She seems to know when I'm sad and cheers me up. It's hard to be sad with such a cute, smiley face enticing me to play. She is a wonderful dog and tries really hard to be good, to help us and to protect us when we need it. She has brought a lot of joy to my life.

I have two poms myself, one purebred (parti with Apricot & Cream) & one mix (terrier-chi-pom with a Black bridle coat, with white spotted paws)! They're both boys and they're the Love of my life, along with my cat of course (never owned a cat before, I'm raising her like I raised my last two pomeranians & she's totally like a dog now... fetching, makes these weird little barking noises, walks on a harness!). Anyway. I've had depression & anxiety for the last 6 years of my life, and the purebred Pom is just so incredibly in-tune with me and my emotions. He knows before me if I'm going to have a bad anxiety attack, and he can always tell when I need a bit extra time. They're both so extremely protective of me and our house, and the mix one has taken an extreme liking to my Mother. He protects her anytime they're together, she's getting older and he notices her arthritis and sits by the spots that hurt her most and licks/puts his head on the spots ever so gently. They are just such special dogs, as all dogs are. But poms are truly something special. Thank you to everyone sharing their stories and for giving our Pomeranians loving, forever homes. Rescue or Adopt!! You'd be surprised, you can definitely find Poms through Petfinder.com or tour local shelter. You'll have a best friend for life that will never let you down and will make you and your life so much happier. 🐶💕🐕

I always have Lemmy's brush nearby, as I brush him pretty often. He gets a bath about once per month. He's really good with grooming time, getting brushed, just lays and lets me brush him. He loves playtime, as we play tug-of-war with his toys with him. Sometimes he wants our hand more then the toys, and sometimes the toys. He's funny like that. He likes laps. he likes to bark at many things. :D well that's the simple of it, without writing a super long message about our Pom.

I love Pomeranians and my dog is one. The weird thing is that she has very short hair and a normal tail. When we got her they said she was a Pomeranian Toy Fox (Terrier Mix) so she's tougher but we never trained and she barks 24/7 😂 I can't find any other dogs like her but that's not a bad thing because she's unique!

Chester Drescher is my favorite pomerian. He's the reason why pomerian is now my number one favorite little dog. Ever since I saw him on the Nanny nine years ago I became a fan of the pomerian. I have 2 Poms and I love them so much! One is black and about 6 pounds and the other is a much bigger, cream colored one. I wouldn't be surprised if he weighed 15 pounds! (The vet said he was 10 pounds, but he was wiggling and he's very heavy!) He loves to eat, but he is not fat. He's just big. His father was also big. He also has a beautiful coat. Sorry to hear about your Pom Jia Hui :_( I know how that feels Hopefully you can find another fluffy friend to help heal your heart. I know nothing can take the place of what you have lost however, I'm sure the memories and time will help. ;-) Poms are the BEST dogs to have. I've had many different breeds however, my Pom is truly my best friend. I can have a really rotten day and she runs to me with that awesome little face and just looks at me like its gonna be ok. Then she starts spinning around with joy like does this help? I can literally walk out of the house come back two minutes later and she gets all excited again. I got what I thought was a pom 8 months ago but it turns out she is mixed and turned out amazing! She has the face and tail of a pom and a tiny mane but doesn't have the double coat and doesn't show signs of shedding yet. Although she ended up being a little bigger than I expected! She still has that pom personality though!

4-6 lbs? In what world? My Pom is a little over a year old and is almost 20 lbs. He has so much fur and is a little chubby. He is such a happy little dog. He acts almost like a husky, but in a smaller package. He loves the snow, he is very intelligent and such a sweetie. He is probably the smartest dog I have ever owned. Very great dogs. Not at all are they snooty and mean as some people make them out to be.

A show Pomeranian should be 4lbs

Um, mine is a purebred. And my vet said he is a normal size for a pom. My other dog is a yorkie/pom mix and she weighs only 11lbs. I think it is because the size range for poms is much bigger than it is thought to be. A "standard pomeranian" is supposed to be around 4-8ish lbs. But most pomeranians I have ever been around have easily been over that by 10lbs. Pomeranians are really just a specific sized type of Klein Spitz which is a type of german spitz, aand their weight ranges from around 8lbs to 40lbs. So they are all Klein Spitz's/German Spitz's in theory, but Pomeranians are the dogs that truly fit into that category. While yours is definitely what Pomeranians weight should be, mine is larger and should actually be considered a Klein Spitz. But no one actually uses that term. All "Klein Spitz's" are considered Pomeranians nowadays unless they are show dogs. My comment was mostly speaking about ALL the Klein Spitz's(including the pomeranian size), and considering how I rarely run into a 4-8lb pomeranian. Sorry about my long essay I just wrote. You probably know a lot of that so I probably just wasted my time. And my original comment was somewhat misleading, I was just referring the "in what world?" part to the fact i never see any lighter weight poms. Phew. That was a lot.

My pomeranian also weighs around 7.5-8kg and he is a purebreed. Most people prefer the tiny pomeranian, because they think it is a dog show quality and they would say mine isn't a purebreed. However they should know that pomeranian ranges in size as their ancestors were large breeds. And my pomeranian acts like a husky too, very active and jumpy.

Vivi Trumanto exactly. Most people only classify Pomeranians if they are under 10 lbs, but the only reason they have gotten to be that size is because of people wanting them to be smaller and breeding them that way. I personally like bigger Poms, I think they aren't as delicate if that makes sense. Poms are amazing. So happy all the time, and they just love to be around there owners!

For people looking for a Pom, try your local rescues and shelters! There are a lot of full blood Poms there. I had my first who was a rescue who recently died, Bernie was 16. I just got a 1 yr old from a rescue that came from a puppy mill.

I have a pom and he is cute but has a ton of energy and like the lady says, barks A LOT. I have had other breeds that I trained early, that didn't bark but my pom is headstrong and I have to stay viligant so he doesn't drive my neighbors crazy.

I currently have a long haired chihuahua and I suggest a long haired chihuahua because a pomeranian needs more care imo because of their hair. Also pretty yappy too. But it depends with the personality, because I have a chihuahua and people say they're noisy, but mine barks like once a day lol.
