At a party one time I made it my mission to gain the trust of a rescue dog that someone else brought along. The dog was previously used as a bait dog in a dog fighting operation and was not at all trusting of men, so I had my work cut out for me. I missed the party, sitting out in the backyard all evening with the dog and another tiny dog that was her friend. I befriended the little one first and then wound up with both of them in my lap. You can bet I cried. Best party ever.
