My DDB Canyon will be 7yrs old soon. Absolute wonderful dog, such a great boy. Big breed, big problems. We rescued him at 1 years old. He had mites from neglectful previous owner. Fixed that. Then had some lumps removed. Put him on thyroid medication (forever). Then did a tooth extraction (broke it from chewing a bone) that was another $1400. Then he blew his knee out. I couldn't bare to watch him on 3 legs in pain. That was another $4500. Then he had more lumpy masses and a few crooked chicklets growing in the wrong direction causig him pain. Removed all that for another $500. Why would anyone spend that kind of money on a dog? I told myself I never would. But I love Canyon that much. Don't get this breed or any big breed if you are not prepared for the good possibility of big dog health issues. Some say I was unlucky with my dog. But I feel really lucky afterall. He is just that good of a friend.

I loveee my french mastiff hes so gentle and patient with kids. Albeit super lazy. One time some kids were instigating and lunging at him and throwing rocks and all he did was take the hits and bark once to scare them off. He wasnt tied and the kids were inside my yard. But another time he chased my carpenter down and tackled him to the floor then proceeded to sit/lie on him because he came back to get some tools at a late hour. Didnt even bite the carpenter hahaha. Theres a good reason they were kept besides royalty.

I was on a tour before and we had my dad's bullmastiff with us and we where looking at one of hulks brothers or sisters (pretty sure it was his sister tho) and she was about the same size as my dad's bullmastiff so I definitely don't believe that hulk is 100 percent pit bull. You just don't get them that big. I think some where in his family either his parents, grand parents, or even his great grand parents, there is definitely been some kind of mastiff been bread into his family. You just don't naturally get pits that big.

I really like the DDB, I think they are a funtional looking breed and I've never met a dozy one yet, and dozy dogs are everywhere in the UK. It's one of the few mastiff-types I would consider owning, they would fit into my life beautifully I feel and I would have a job for it when I finally get myself sorted. They are a good breed and certainly a favourite of mine. Look tough, are tough, but versatile!

I have a 9 and a half week old male, already powerful and heavy but dosn't look it he is on the slimmer side but he is growing very fast so that will change but NOT at all lazy. Not crazy hyper like some breeds but a lot of energy and motivation so far very easy to train, a bit stubborn at first you have to learn what motivates your individual dog the most and use it for training while also teaching him what no and leave it means he is always offering me stuff I have taught him already trying to impress he is awesome. When he does get tired he just wants to snuggle right into you and climb on your lap not sure how that will work when he is full grown lol.

Problem is im 55 years old and my dog hates other dogs, so im afriad to take him for a walk, as i have to go where he wants, please give me some tips,.By the way one thing you didnt mention BullyBadAssTV, was DDB's have the largest teeth in the dog world.

I have a DDB and if trained they're so great. Being that you can't control him/her or that they're too much for you it may be safer for you to let someone adopt your DDB. Someone more experienced. Just make sure you find a proper home and not one that will abuse him/her. It's also going to hurt when they leave your home :(

Big Al okay don’t listen to that guy 👆🏻👆🏻 you don’t need to get rid of your dog at all in fact many mastiff breeds have this problem and it has nothing to do with the owners it has everything to do with genetics ( they were bred to fight and to be war dogs) I’ve had both a Cane corso and a French mastiff.... socialization is key, but sometimes if that’s not dine extensively enough in the beginning then you can be fucked and these dogs grow very fast so it’s like now or never scenario... ( that’s why I never get any mastiff in the winter always in the summer so everyday I would take mine to the park and sit all day forcing mine to play with other dogs and kids). Looks Like you made he same mistake as me. My French mastiff was properly socialized and she’s great with strange dogs I bought my Cane corso in the winter so socializing wasn’t done right and he is also dog aggressive now. The only tip I can suggest at this point and I’ve had to do this as well, is to separate the dogs at all times (okay quick run down. I have 3 dogs and 2 makes that are Cane corso the other a pit bull, they grew up together but as my Cane corso reached adulthood he had dominance issues and started attacking my Pity if he came near me) and to start training with a muzzle...... this is a time to be very strict.... don’t let your dog get away with anything!!! You need to 1 exercise thoroughly before training. After you exercise start training Your dog with a muzzle with other dogs.... seek professional Advise or look up casaer Milan he has many informative videos that have helped me. Also learn dog behaviors bc once you have that knowledge you can better understand what’s going on so you can correct faster..... hope this helps know that it’s not entirely your fault Lol genetics has a lot to do with it ( many mastiff owners have this issue dog aggression) and the time of when your son got the dog.... hope this helps if you have any ? Ask me

They have a deep powerful bark, they're massively protective of their owners and if anyone did try to break in they would probably shit themsellves once they saw your dogue
@aubsarg02226 жыл бұрын
Liza C I’ll say this they don’t have an aggressive nature but will protect you if need be with that said they will not bark at every person walking by, nor will they be timid around strangers but best believe if someone threatens you they will react.... if you want a dog that will look at everything as a threat get a Cane corso.... proud owner of both breeds ( except my French mastiff recently passed away rip kierra)

I swear I have the best looking female french mastiff in the world! she is the best dog I think I'll ever have, amazing breed! super messy though but I'm okay with it! also, is it common for french mastiff to have skin allergies or some sort of dermatitis problems? because my female is always itchy and when cold hits she looses her fur. :( specialist and vets do fuck all but give her an antibiotic >:|

@aubsarg02226 жыл бұрын
Lexy Commisso yes I also had a French mastiff that was a female and I agree they are the best dogs!!! Skin problems were an issue for me and now jay I have a Cane corso it’s an issue for him as well so I feel like skin issues resides in the mastiff family as a whole. Regarding your ? Mine was allergic to fleas, one bite and she broke out in a red rash and starting losing fur. So I could never go a month without buying her the name brand flea medicine from petco I used advantage 2 or the one that started with a Z but you can only get that from a vet. Advantage2 at petco and advantage not advantix and not frontline they suck!!! Okay to continue, don’t use dog food with yeast I had to buy Rachael rays dog food or purina 1 ( they both have some content of yeast but are better nourished) anytime I used any other dog food she broke out and got dry skin and stunk.... also put a tablespoon of vegetable oil in their bowl once a day it helps keep their coat shiny and smooth plus it rids dry skin.... moving on to the ears.... have you ever experienced black gooky stuff that stinks terribly? That’s a yeast problem and it can be treated with over the counter medicine ( like that you use for athletes feet) or go to the vet and get a prescription it’s really not all that expensive like you would think.... other than that, but a ear cleaner and clean the ears daily or else that black nasty stuff will appear.... hope this helps bc I know this breed develops so many issues with their skin and it took me forever to find remedies and solutions
@aubsarg02226 жыл бұрын
Lexy Commisso oh and I forgot to say this.... mine used to lose fur all the time by her but it at the end of her back where her tail started.... it happened during seasonal changes.... she ended up also being allergic to grass and other elements..... I treated her with “ hot spot” formula I bought it at Walmart and literally it was only 5 bucks and it treated the problem..... okay here’s a run down..... buy low yeast content ( taste of the Wild is ideal but who has 100 bucks to spend on 1 bag of dog food? Lol) the ones that I could only buy for mine was Rachael Ray or purina 1. Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to their bowl once a day to relieve dry skin. Buy ear cleaner and keep the ears clean, if ever black nasty stuff appears in the ears it’s a yeast infection and treat it right away with eiether over the counter medicine or take it to the vet ( ideally) and keep flea medicine treatment on her at all times and keep hot spot treatments around for seasonal changes and she will be good to go!!! Hope this helps and if you have any other ?’s feel free to ask
@janpreetsingh14056 жыл бұрын
Lexy Commisso i have one ddb too she is 3 years old Yes it is true they can get skin allergies with change in weather and diet. To cure the allergies of her skin, What i have found that cetrizine tablets are very affective i am not sure if it is available there in your country but it worked for me.

Does anyone know about any working dogue, neo, EM, Cane Corso, or Presa breeders. I am interested in getting a molosser as both a companion for my Shepherd and as a guard dog. The only dogs I can seem to find that are bred with working qualities in mind are Bandogges and livestock guardians, and while I wouldn't mind either one I do not have the yard space a LGD deserves. We are a pretty active family and would like our dog to be physically capable and healthy enough to keep up with our GSD.

i would reccomend an American bulldog 😊 great family dog, a lot of energy outside and a great watchdog
@tpalmer33458 жыл бұрын
+Valon Saramati yea I thought about that and would defiantly still consider it. The only issue with the bulldog is the prey drive or so I have herd. We frequent areas with a lot of black bears and wild life. I want large substantial dog with defensive and fight drive so a bear will be deterred if I am hiking. I wouldn't want a AB running off after one.

Boxing Gym get a French mastiff I’ve had experience with all the breeds mentioned above and for sure the French mastiff describes you to a T. However, to avoid possible aggressive traits, you will need to train and socialize this breed and remain calm and assertive bc this breed will test you and if you are a wimp they will walk over you make their own rules and claim dominance which can be dangerous.... they are independent thinkers but are extremely loyal.... so training is very very easy they learn extremely fast!! I’m not a dog trainer yet I taught mine to roll over!!! Socialize is key with this breed I did so with mine and mine did very well with strange dogs and strangers..... I suggest getting a female for your first one bc males tend to have more issues with dominance while females are like whatever..... one thing I always found remarkable is when I took my female French mastiff anywhere all the dogs instantly submitted to her no dog ever had the guts to challenge her... what I’m saying is this breed knows it’s strength and doesn’t have to take extreme measures to make its presence..... perfect t coach potatoe if I may add!!! Super chill dog! They love to be with you tho not a dog to tie up and leave outside or else they will be hurt truly hurt bc they form such a close bond with their owners....
@aubsarg02226 жыл бұрын
Oh and if your wondering mine was super chill but if you fucked with me your dead these dogs are one of the only breeds that are aware of their strength. ( which is why when or if they try to sit in you they distribute their weight to where no pressure is on you) so this dog will not bark at everything that moves, nor will it greet strangers as a threat, but trust me if need be they will come to rescue you and protect you that’s why I love this breed they are special dogs truly amazing ....

5-6 year life expectancy!? And I thought the great dane was bad. Who would even buy these things to spend all the time/energy in training them and bonding with them, just to feel that horrific heart break every 5-6 years. I just lost a dog from cancer at 7 years old that should've lasted until 12 at least and that experience is nothing I would ever want to relive. Let alone every 5-6 years. This is the shortest life expectancy for a dog I have ever heard of.

Not all of them only live to 6 and that is just statistics in the USA. I have owned ddbs since 1994, and have had some live to 9.5yrs and heard if others up to 12yrs. Sometimes depends on the bloodlines, inbreeding with dogs with bad hearts, most of all care! living inside vs outside year round, diet,..etc all of that plays a role!

Are they herders?
@Dan-wo4bx5 жыл бұрын
peace and love they are a multi purpose dog but not really herders. We had a bitch that could bring the milking cows in but not quick enough on the turn for sheep.

Prenume Nume not for females but males are pretty close to the same size they are massive but not nearly as tall as a St. Bernard so I have to say no..... they are more stocky than anything else

+Reclaimer I'm sure feeding a good diet could help lengthen it a bit.

Any dog with lots of wrinkles in their face usually have smelly face.you have to clean after every feed

5-6 yrs>>?

5-6 yr life expectancy? so sad, not enough time to love these big guys.. I'm curious if buying from a breeder whom health tests the bitch and sire will give them a better chance? obviously not going to stop all debilitating conditions such as cancer... although good enough reason never to buy from a byb...these guys are beautiful.

Marcia Byers you could get lucky, mine lived 8 years. but you must show REAL dedication to these great dogs, cus it seems they get pretty life threating problems and cost quite a bit to get them all helped up

The DDB that played Hooch made it to 14 years. I lost one at 10 years in 2017.

O-T -M no they didnt lol theres pictures of these dogs from the 1920s they look almost identical maybe back in the 19th century they were differentbut so was pretty much every dog. i agree on the dog shows tho some of there criteria for failing dogs is disgusting they should make there criteria more about health than just looks!

I have a westie and he's a much better watch dog. Bull dogs are terrible guard dogs, they'd lick the hand of a burglar.

Trust me, it's a bull dog. A dog bred for tackling bulls. Same thing.
