Doing The Queen's Gambit puzzle by Magnolia Puzzles!

Today I'll be completing The Queen's Gambit puzzle by Magnolia Puzzles! I really enjoyed the Netflix series so when I saw this puzzle I knew I had to try it out! This is also my first time trying Magnolia Puzzles - although by the time you see this video I will have already posted another puzzle of theirs over on my Instagram account... I guess it's a Magnolia kinda week! Anyway, I've heard great things about this brand and I'm super excited to try them out... so let's get puzzling!

I enjoyed your video and review of the Magnolia brand puzzles. I binge watched The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, loved it. I am now going to branch out and buy a Magnolia puzzle, but an easier puzzle than Queens Gambit as I am not up to your expertise Liz (Melbourne) Australia

Magnolia have quite a variety of designs available so hopefully you will find one that you like. I recently started watching the Queens Gambit just because I’m obsessed with the look of this puzzle hahaha! 😅 I just did the Magnolia Alice puzzle and loved it! Interesting that yours didn’t come in a resealable bag because the Alice one did 🤔

Yep - definitely think I need to re-watch it. Really enjoyed it the first go around. 😀 I am currently eyeing the two Alice ones on the Mindconnect website...shall I or shan't I? 😆 Actually, it's interesting because the Audrey one I just did came with the ziplock bag but this one didn't. Maybe one is slightly older or something? 🤔

Hi! So glad you’re enjoying my videos. 😀🧩💖 That puzzle is from the Malaysian brand Pico Olo (picoolo.com/collections/puzzle/puzzle). It’s a one off as it was a prototype but I think they’ve made a very similar one now in a larger piece size. Their puzzles are really cool - the pieces are made from this softish plastic. 😀

I just discovered The Queen's Gambit was a book to show adaptation. I really liked that show so now I feel like I should read the book since I wanted more content. The autism rep in the show was well done in my opinion. I've literally imagined stuff in similar ways in the past. Not chess, but I've imagined other stuff that moved in similar ways and I could've done it with chess if I would've had the rest in my head to sit down for it at the time. And I really like the way this puzzle looks.

Yes, I just found that out too! I'm also tempted to read the book to see how similar/different the series is from it. I think it's great that more shows and movies are representing a wider range of society - especially showing more neurodiversity. Some don't always get it right I guess, but I'm glad you feel that this one does. 😊

@@JigsawJubie It does showcase one way a person can experience it pretty well. She's undiagnosed as fits the period it's set in and because she's smart people just think she's shy and socially awkward. I have felt that non understanding why you don't fit in, it's pretty horrible. I blocked out part of it. It was bad and the reason I got diagnosed at age 9 (which I do remember most of). It's sad that that's young for a girl to get diagnosed with both ASD and ADD because they often don't show the symptoms boys do or no way near as severe (girls are apparently better at masking, but I never was that good at it as I just wondered why people treated me differently. I didn't even see where I acted differently so I couldn't mask it and my parents never mentioned things. Luckily, masking can cause a lot of problems).

Yes, that does make a lot of sense how it's portrayed for the time period and for her being female. It's pretty awful that there has been and continues to be so much sexism surrounding diagnosis. The whole 'girls don't get ADD/ADHD' thing or 'she's just shy' etc, etc. I'm actually going for a consultation and possible diagnosis for ADHD later this year (the wait time to see a professional is ridiculous at the moment!) so hopefully I'll get some answers to a lot of things! 😅

I've got 7 of their puzzles, done 3 of them and i love them! You should check out the alice in wonderland puzzle they have! The imagery is great!

That’s fair enough - not every art style is for everyone that’s for sure. 🙂 The Magnolia brand does have quite a lot of other art styles and designs available too, so hopefully lots of designs to suit all sorts of tastes! 😀

@@JigsawJubie The Magnolia brand appeared in Bulgaria a month ago and there are about 30 images available. I checked them all out. Maybe I'd like to give Alexander Jansson's "Colonel Cinnamons Strange Noses Mystery Orchestra" a try. 🙂

There seems to be a common thread here. I too got the impulse to re-watch The Queen's Gambit from your video. 👸♟️ Happy to know that the brand quality is very good. It certainly has a lot of the elements that I enjoy. Also just looked up the prices here in Canada and they are pretty similar to the Australian prices (maybe even a bit lower). This makes me very happy! Think I might just make a purchase tonight! 😁
