I'm a millenial who was born too late to even remember the 90s, and that _still_ hurt me. No one outside of television was ever dumb enough to pull a landline phone too far away from its cradle; and even though I never used it, IRC existed and was much more analogous to Discord (I think?) than AIM, which _is_ actually how we further shortened AOL Instant Messenger.
