My Dokio panels arrived with a DOA controller. I contacted Dokio’s customer service in China to see about replacement. I am still without a replacement offer or solution fifteen days later. Brand new panels and I cannot use them without major modification. No customer service - no option to purchase replacement/repair parts. Keep this in mind when making your solar panel purchase. Caveat emptor!

Very clear explanation, thank you, did you use a typical ”autozone” car battery? Did you connect both the solar panel and the fridge to the battery posts? Thank you!

Thanks for this and the Alpicool Fridge video. I'm considering one the Alpicool frig/freezers for camping (although I'm considering the 36L size mostly due to weight). I was interested in the power requirements so your video gave me a good idea about that. I intend run it with an EcoFlow Delta 1300 lithium battery and a Renogy 100W portable solar panel (one or two). One of the advantages of this battery (besides capacity and it can be run nearly to empty without harming the battery) is that it has a built in MPPT controller which passes the solar power more efficiently to the battery. I appreciate you taking the time to document your experience and findings. You did a great job.

I have had 2 Dokio panels and experienced 2 problems. After 2 years - I noticed the Nylon case fades in the sun here in southern Arizona. Output also gradually reduced until it was putting out only 1 Watt. Works for a couple years then throw it away.
@time.to.go.outdoors9209

Nylon would be susceptible to sunlight/UV and heat just normal for nylon...you may be able to mitigate that with UV protective sprays... the panels have a plastic cover, did that cloud up with the sun? or do you think it was just the lifespan of the panels?
@DesertAdventuresinArizona
@DesertAdventuresinArizona 3 жыл бұрын
@@time.to.go.outdoors9209 I just threw away the first one that I purchased 3 years ago. In addition to the sun damage the output gradually decreased to 1 watt. Did not think it was worth keeping it after that. No - I did not see any yellowing on the plastic cover.

CHINA!! When folks tell me they're stupid and don't engineer their products to last, I just laugh and think to myself, they're engineered perfectly to steal our money and break shortly after the return/warranty window closes. Its us that are stupid, we keep buying their junk.

I have 2 ×12v batteries for my class C rv. Will this do good by the end of the day in Az. Also I heard that closer the controller is to batteries the better. Is this true? Thank you so much enjoyed the video.

The TX60 do have a locking capability...I had issues with the dual plug flat (SAE) connector
@mondavou9408

I use those SAE connectors all the time and never have a problem. You're right, if I was worried or had a weird one that didn't fit snug, two inches of electrical tape would solve that.

Thanks for the video, how did you wire it up to the refrigerator ?
@time.to.go.outdoors9209

The Fridge was attached to a small battery and the panels attached to the battery...In full sun the panel was able to provide enough power to run the fridge and send a small amount of voltage to charge the battery (just under a typical trickle charger usually) when the fridge is in standby all the voltage charges the battery,

Did you buy it with your own money or as it a gift from the manufacturer? Other reviews have reported that these do not 'weather' well if used constantly for a few months and the surface tarnishes and become semi opaque - reducing power output considerably. How much have you used this and is it still producing the same output? Given that these seem to age badly it would be interesting to hear updates from people who said they were great the day they received them.

I might get no more than 80 watts from the 200 and maybe 40 from the 100watts in good condition. I daisy chain to get a bit more for a lithium battery keeping a camping fridge.

I bought one base on your review to charge my jackery 500,I was running just my small fridge and the panel was on full sun never went over 58 watts.due to weather conditions and heat wave the jackery over heat and shut down but it never reached full charged on two days of camping. I did let the jackery cool off before any attempts to recharge but the panel never reached the 70 0r 80 watts capacity.I’m not saying or blaming you for my purchase but my panel never worked as I expected.

Very sorry to hear your unit did not work for your needs... the average for the unit we purchased was 70-80watts in FULL Sun but a small cloud can drop that drastically...as the sun moved we also had to make sure the panel was straight (and flat) to the sun. if you leave it, it won't be getting direct sun... we also did not use a Jackery, did you plug the panel directly into the Jackery or did you also add the included controller? if the Jackery overheated then the panel may not have been the biggest issue as even 58w should run many fridges in ECCO mode.... I am not saying either way I can only go by what I saw during our testing of the unit we purchased.

@@time.to.go.outdoors9209 Thanks for your very useful review. I bought this to charge my Jackery 1000 (internal MPPT controller) and in full noon sun got a max of 60 watts. The battery was in shade, so no overheating and was almost completely discharged. Glad it worked for your fridge though!

I have the 220 watt panel like yours, 300 watt like yours and the 100 watt flex panel. The flex panel is junk. It over heated and almost burned my camper down.

Dang, that's frightening! The one I purchased from Amazon says that it is 18v @ 110w output but then they show the opening page of this specific video... Almost as if they are doing themselves a disservice of sorts. I gladly have another 100w folding solar panel so I suspect that if we're smacked here on the Texas Gulf Coast with yet another hurricane this year, we're going to find out very quickly which one is actually going to do what little I'll ask of it. Thank you for chiming in and not leaving us out here to flounder for ourselves without having some kind of heads-up warning. Be well, be safe and be blessed in all your endeavors....~Benny

hey you dont charge your 12v battery at 20 volts. pwm controllers charging 12 volt lead acid batteries will charge more like this : 13.8v x 5a = 59watts, or 14.4v x 5 a = 72 watts. that is assuming you can even reach 5 amps
@time.to.go.outdoors9209
@time.to.go.outdoors9209 3 жыл бұрын
The way companies rate items, at the panel they can claim 100w because at the panel level of 20v @ 5amps they will get the claimed 100w. the loss from converting at the PWM controller is not the panels fault but understood you argument for the complete kit sake is correct!

@@time.to.go.outdoors9209 hey good video btw. i sometimes stay up late watching these videos and dont always remember what i said or why..... i rewatched your video and appreciate it more now that i am awake. i think what i was referring to was at about @5:01 you said that pwm maxed out at 20 volts and 5 amps, you will only get about 62 watts max out of that setup. the only thing i can think of here is that you connected the panel to the controller before the battery. these 12 volt pwms controllers will not give your battery 20 volts. 20 volts sure is close to the ocv of 21.5 which is what i think your controller showed you since it wasnt connected in proper order. you probably share 300 good and accurate facts about this unit, but i wanted comment readers a chance to get the real voltage of this unit. you seem educated on this topic, which is confusing me. also mppt controller would get even less wattage than pwm on this panel. oh and that connector on the panel has a name, its called "sae". terrible name if you ask me that already means "standard american equivalent". i like your fridge idea and i may look into something like that soon, and it made for a good test/video

@@time.to.go.outdoors9209 one of these days i will be doing video showing why 100 watt panels do not give 100 watts. i need to get a few more pieces of knowledge under my belt and a few more pieces of hardware that has been ordered.seems like so many people, including my self, dont understand why 65% rated is about the max you will get with some panels on some controllers, no matter the temps, controller types, sun angle and season. i watched a video where a guy got 105 watts out of his 100 watt single panel connected to his charge controller, i ordered his exact equipment to see if i can do the same and then start swapping things around to see where the problem with my other stuff
