It’s sad. I had a patient in dental school 35 years ago who showed up in our oral dx clinic with calculus the size of a large nut on the buccal side of his mandibular right quadrant. The “nut” was also a bright green color due to his heavy use of sweet green candy. It became obvious after some initial scaling that the green “nut” behaved like a splint to retain 5 teeth that would have fallen out. He was a WWII veteran who had been petrified of seeing a dentist because of a horrible experience with an army dentist in 1945. Before I removed much of the “splint”, I felt it best to refer him to both the periodontics and prosthodontics departments, as his health and restoration with a full set of dentures had to be managed. What I felt most sad about was that a good man had been frightened from ever receiving general care by a dentist who extracted teeth without anesthesia. We never know why someone avoids treatment until we get to know their circumstances…it’s not ours to judge. Beautiful scaling as always!

Now that that teeth is all cleaned up it's more likely going to follow any day after that there's nothing holding it I think it would have been easier to just get it removed by the dentist but maybe they were scared

We’re supposed to be advocates for one another in this life…or at least I think so. My only hope was that this man received some measure of relief and improvement in his day to day routine. If we collectively were able to show him that our profession cared about him, then hopefully some of the damage done so long ago could be reversed. 🫡 Have a wonderful day! 🙏

Probably from lots of reasons ~ severe depression, extreme stress, laziness (I’m not saying this person was lazy…), extreme fear of going to dentist from a past traumatic experience, possibly a health condition / disease that I’m unaware of… just to name a few reasons as to why tartar might become this extreme.

Очень зависит от химической предрасположенности организма. Я, например, чищу зубы 2-3 раза в день, но каждый год у дантиста вынуждена терпеть эту процедуру, так как камни все равно оседают. Как только при чистке зубов щеткой десны нацинают кровоточить - значит, пора к дантисту.

Kalo ga separah ini mah masih bisa, tapi butuh waktu beberapa minggu n usahakan jangan gigit makanan yg keras. 😅😅 Tapi kalau akar giginya sudah hampir kelihatan ujungnya begini, kayaknya impossible giginya bisa bertahan. Soalnya jaringan penyangga akar giginya kemungkinan besar sudah rusak terkena tekanan dari tumpukan tartar.
