I have too much respect for these workers, these guys look so competent at what they're doing; they work with fast hands and to a high standard. Many of us consumers just see the final product on the supermarket shelf and forget about the labour required.

Facts. I am an Almond and Apple producer and it's a tough work. More and more young people are leaving our motherland for cities and i bet the same happens to other small towns. I am pretty worried for the fate of food industry in the future, since the nymber of farmers is decreasing, and nobody seems to talk about this.

When I lived in Taiwan, back in 1956 to 1958, I was about 12 to 14 years old. I remember eating bananas there that came right off the plant. Those bananas were so sweet and moist. When we were sent back to the States, I hated the taste of the bananas and it took a long time to start eating them regularly again.

@b1zika5 жыл бұрын
@@jennifersneegas8352 This particular labor as you can see from the video is mostly people working by hand and barely using any machinery. Mostly on a fields. Imagine working at high temperatures lifting this stacks of bananas that weight about 60kg through the fields to the vehicle they transport it and backwards. Its hard labor work.And its not just that all they do. It has nothing to do with u standing on your feed in a factory driven mostly by machines. In 3rd countries like this owners tend to pay poorly to their workers and they have to bust their asses off work everyday. In the US you could just quit that job and move to something else. Its not as if these people have much options and opportunities as you and me have. The very least we can do is appreciate their efford and hard work and be suportive.

I have always loved watching banana plants and I enjoy bananas in my yogurt and cereals. Its amazing to see how the bananas I enjoy today are shipped. thank you for all the hard work and army of people who bring the delicious banana to my table! ^0^ I actually have some found memories with the banana trees that makes me love watching the banana trees..I remember specifically that there was this one banana tree that actually bore fruit to my surprise in my childhood neighbourhood, and I was always tempted to pick it and eat it or climb it..My mum stopped me from climbing banana tree or eating the green banana fruit which was still growing for one thing and the other thing, it grew up next to a road where cars and other traffic constantly passed, so it may not have been the cleanest banana in the world..but I still got to enjoy watching it and learned how bananas that I eat grew! It may actually have been the first time I saw any fruit grow in my life, which added to the fun and excitement ^0^ Even to this day I wonder if that banana is still there today..(never mind the fact when I lived there would be almost good 20-23 yrs ago, but I would certainly wish to visit it if that same tree was still there ^^) Shout out to that banana tree if its still there (^0^)/

So speaking for all of us (no one asked me [I know] I took it upon my self), thank you!!! [p.s.] If and when they become overripe (not fun to eat), I toss 'em in the freezer whole and save them for frozen smoothies later! Post harvest treatment to preserve freshness....mask and gloves on. What is this "treatment"?
@danlorett21848 жыл бұрын
+Hiroshi Bell It's foodsafe wax - it seals the cut stem to prevent it from molding. The skin of the bananas and stem won't rot, but the inside of the stem can rot if it is cut and exposed. It also prevents water from getting into the cut stem - if too much water is absorbed the stem will fall apart and the bananas will come off.

@LWSParents8 жыл бұрын
"free trade" is buzzword. tariffs prove this.
@geoffreystraw52688 жыл бұрын
free trade is a reference to trade deals america has made with other countries to prevent tarifs. The world trade organization punishes countries if they don't follow the deals. So our corporations go into an area and develop it for a third world country. If the country resists our corporation can sue under the guise of USAID and IMF. We force third world nations to allow our corporations in and either displace indigenous people for massive farming plantations or mining operations. Often these projects involve some kind of massive loan from the world bank to the third world nation to build roads and support for the business coming in. Once a third world nation is in debt and default on the loan (not only do the lack of tariffs mean they cannot pay off the debt, every single third world nation is now in debt to the world bank) the IMF can claim structural adjustment. Structural adjustment is when the IMF (international monetary fund) decide labor laws, environmental laws, utilities are force to be privatized. Everything is changed to help business as much as possible. Pollute all you want. Pay the workers a dollar a day. Military budgets for these countries are forced higher to maintain order during this time of "adjustment". Since the 50s and 60s our government has had a huge influence on international law. Forcing countries to allow our corporations in without getting any benefit except for some very low paying jobs. That is what free trade is.

Why does she need a mask when ‘preserving freshness’ 3:17 :/ serious chemicals
@ronchappel48125 жыл бұрын
It may not be chemicals as we understand the word. It could be an oil or wax sealant for example.We never used such a thing on our bananas so i cant be sure ( i havent worked in the industry for several decades) Generally these days chemicals are avoided as much as possible

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Bananas "breathe" through the stem part, so image how much of whatever that is goes right into the banana..
@nathanjohnson94644 жыл бұрын
@@Njennings42 bananas don't "breathe," stop spreading misinformation. As for the chemicals they are only on the stem and someone else in the comments said it was probably sodium bicarbonate
@Njennings424 жыл бұрын
@@nathanjohnson9464 Oh right, sorry. They absorb oxygen, and release CO2. Sorry, not breathing. Oxidation. The very reason they're spraying the bananas.
