I loved every second of that. One of my favorite reactors explaining why I love Gacharic Spin better than I could, including some of the nuances of lineup change and sound evolution. Nice job! Also: this video has just the right amount of bonnet, showing that Band-Maid doesn't have a monopoly in this area.

When this came out, Gacharic Spin was alot different. They had 2 dancers up front, and Hana was Drums/Lead vocal. They were rarely as heavy as they are today. Fuki's background was more in the prog metal scene(Lightbringer), and this was something different for her. When Gacharic Spin lost their original singer(Armmy) Fuki filled in on some live shows, they had so much chemistry that they decided to do this side project. So basically D$B was heavier then anything GS we're doing at the time, and more poppy than what Fuki was known for at the time. I was originally more of a D$B fan, as the pop stylings and dancers up front we're odd to me. However, i went to a couple GS shows in Japan on my 2nd trip there, and after seeing GS live they were immediately my fav band, and ive been to hundreds of gigs of many many bands over the years. That was in 2017 and GS are still my #1, that has never changed.

Before the dancers and Oreo they had Armmy who did lead vocals and keyboard, beautiful woman and voice to match. The songs they made then are still some of my favorites from the band. She left the band due to health issues and passed away in October of 2015. After she left they found Oreo and played for a while with just the four of them but added the dancers to help 'front' the band and interact with the crowd.

Take My Chance is one of my favorite tracks of all time: thanks for your reaction. The MV is a bit of a critique of the Alt Idol scene in Japan which generally consists of 3 to 7 cute teen (almost always women) singing and dancing terribly to pre-recorded tracks in 100-person venues. Many of these groups produce tracks which have no musical aspirations beyond the sounds of popular idol groups like Morning Masume, AKB48, etc. However, there are also groups that followed Baby Metal into metal, and it became this hugely diverse and musically fertile scene for a while with groups covering pretty much any genre you can think of. There's a prog rock Alt Idol group. There's a Celtic rock Alt Idol group. Heck, I know of one Alt Idol who does synth compositions similar to those done in the 70s. Your MV here led me to sample several of your other reactions and you seem to be interested in vocals and particular death metal screaming, thus, the obvious recommendation into the Alt Idol scene for you would be Broken By The Scream which features two screamers in the Alt Idol format. You tend to go with the most viewed track to start with which in this case would be fine, but I think you might find more to talk about with the following track (title pronounced Aiha Kimino mono): kzbin.info/www/bejne/enOupWiuYryrjpo .

Great reaction and you can tell that they all love what they are doing. Controlled chaos is what I've always thought about them. This is GS V1.5 (2012), after they lost their original singer (Armmy), around the time that Oreo officially joined the band and before they added dancers/hype in 2013 (GS V2.0 ). They have videos for all the songs on the album (DOLL$ Apartment).

as Douglas S says below. You have to check out their song "Loud Twin Stars" next. Love when Oreo climbs up onto the keyboards and yes she also can do the growls.
@LesDexia132 жыл бұрын
But can they do it live? Oh f*ck yeah!! - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZq6hIpujtB1nNU The "controlled chaos" is a result of all of them being composers AND arrangers. Usually one person is designated the lead composer, who is then tasked with writing the initial parts for the others. Then they go off and flesh their parts out, and get together periodically to compare notes, with the main composer having final say. As a result they know how to write complex parts that magically all fit together without making a muddled mess. They also challenge each other - for one of the new GS songs Hana wrote a bass part that KOGA wasn't sure she'd be able to pull off, but Hana told her "You can do it!" (Side note - Hana played bass in her first major band, Armeria.)

The ominous "to be continued" sign leads to the next song. DOLL$BOXX have made music videos for all of their album tracks. For the 'Doll's Apartment' album, the videos are in this order: 'Loud Twin Stars', 'Merrily High Go Round', 'Take My Chance', 'Roleplaying Life', 'Monopoly', 'Fragrance', 'Karakuri Town', 'Omocha no Heitai' and 'Doll's Box'. (BTW, thank you for pronouncing the "$" in "DOLL$BOXX" like an "S")

Woot! Sorry, couldn't help myself. DOLL$BOXX rocks me in all the right ways :) For me personally Fuki was at her best with Light Bringer, but that's a very personal opinion, everything she does is awesome (there was pronounced keys though, thanks to Mao)... Take My Chance is a really great starting point. Sekai wa kitto ai wo shitterunda might be my favorite, maybe, or maybe Loud Twin Stars, or maybe Merrily High Go Round... Or definately Shout Down :P Also, for Hana doing growls, she does *everything* there's even a video of her learning tapdancing during Covid, and playing household items (Smells Like Teen Spirit kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZqVfGSGorB9n68 ).

She left the band in 2012 due to health reasons and they had only done an EP by that point. She passed away in October of 2015. The new singer Angelina 1/3 is a lot like Armmy was.

Fuki is just a force of nature, on her own. She one one of the most sort after metal singers in Japan. She has been involved in over 100 releases in 17 years, mainly full albums. Unlucky Morpheus, Doll$boxx, Light Bringer and solo work, plus guest appearances in a lot of other bands. As you know this is a side project of Gacharic Spin and Fuki. Gacharic Spin had a tour some years ago, and at the time were having problems with the singer not turning up for practice, after she did not show up for the 1st few shows of the tour the band went on Japanese TV and said that if anyone knows the lyrics turn up and they can join them on stage. The next day they were contacted by Fuki who was a fan of there's and knew all the songs, so they asked Fuki to join them for the rest of the tour. Fuki did most of the tour, but had other commitments for some of it. They had both enjoyed working together so much they started Doll$boxx as a side project so they could work together now and again. So the band are still around, but like with most side project they can not get together that often. The video is taking the mickey out of bands that dress cute and the otaku's, male fans that follow bands like this around, and the cut away is to show what they are really like. For the next Doll$boxx try "monopoly" or "Loud Twin Stars (live)" Your going to do Unlucky Morpheus, tehy do tend to be all over the place at times, they do not have a set style, but have a sound. Try this one for a sort of middle of the road song, by them. [Official Video] Unlucky Morpheus - 「"M" Anthem」kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaC4q5SMfpWjl7s

I was waiting for that reaction. DOLL$BOXX (and Gacha) is my favorite Japanese with BAND-MAID and Maximum the Hormone. My request for the next song to react to would be "Dragonet". It's the last song from their 2017 EP "high $pec" and it's the song that made me fall in love with them. Try to react to the live version at the Tokyo Dome City Hall (with a drum solo by Hana after the song), it's even more beautiful (Oreo MVP). And like other comments say, "Loud Twin Stars" (my favorite of theirs), "Merrily High Go Round" or even the triple treat "Shout Down", "KARAKURI TOWN" & "Sekai wa kitto ai wo shitterunda" live at Tokyo Dome City Hall 👌🏻 Thank you

The whole album is a raspberry at the "Doll in a box" mentality of Japanese culture. SCANDAL's first major release in 2009 (DOLL) had a similar theme - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4jQZqWmfJKFj80 - (clip from the encore of their 2012 appearance at Budokan).

Great to see you checking out DB, however you already knew Hana could scream from your “I wish I” reaction for GS, so sounds like you need to brush up your GS knowledge with some additional reactions 😜 I love both the extra fun of their 2013-8 era, and the more polished arrangements of the current lineup. Bonus points to you for picking out Oreo’s contributions to the overall sound - I try to work out which member of GS I could live without and the answer always comes back to none of them, but if I have to pick one that distinguishes them from other bands and why I like them so much more then for me it’s Oreo 😍

according to legends, this video was part of what inspired Miku to form Band-Maid. Fuki is an absolute monster of a singer, you need to check out Unlucky Morpheus.
@guitarandy24062 жыл бұрын
Assuming the first part is meant somewhat tongue in cheek (hence the "according to legends" bit), as Miku was already performing in an alt idol trio "lil Cumin" (as in the food seasoning) around the time that Doll$boxx formed and released this. She's been quoted in various interviews as Sheena Ringo & her band Tokyo Jihen being the main inspiration for her wanting to be in a band, blending that 'sugoi' musical element with the visual aesthetic of the maid cafes she was working in to create a 'gap' to help stand out in such a saturated music market as Japan. Agree with you on Fuki being a monster singer, though I sometimes find her aggressive vibrato to verge on reckless, which to me makes her style a somewhat acquired taste. The aspect of Unlucky Morpheus that always drags me back in would be Jill's violin, as they've gradually integrated her more into the arrangements since she joined in 2015 their output has become all the better for it.
@cyberpotato632 жыл бұрын
DOLL$BOXX was together during two distinct periods. The first was from 2012 to the beginning of 2014. The second was in 2017. Fuki's vocal stylings changed quite a bit in the intervening three years. She was originally brought in by Gacharic Spin as a possible replacement for the previous singer Armmy. Much of the repertoire in the early period was still centered around songs Armmy sang. Fuki's singing on the first DollSboxx album is still broadly influenced by the earlier material. The pop and rock influences on the first Doll$Boxx album are far more up to date than the late 70s glam rock, power pop & euro pop influences of the first Gacharic Spin lineup. The second time around for DollSBox in 2017, both Fuki's vocals and the group's sound had changed quite a bit. They were more of a metal band the second time around.

If he was still listening i would have recommended doll$boxx’s monopoly as a more nuanced version of this and roulette for the ultimate first year armmy song.

As already explained in a lot of comments, Doll$boxx was a Side project in 2012-2013 between Fuki and the musicians of Gacharic Spin. Even if Gacharic Spin is still alive 🙏, I think Doll$boxx is missing to the music scene nowadays, because of their songwriting and creativity. Speaking of the joy of Tomo-Zo playing guitar, you should really try the live track "Instrumental 2018" of Gacharic Spin (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jImkc2tpp5WfmLM). And to go further with Doll$boxx: Loud Twin Star, Shut Down, Merrily High Go Round, ... and their live versions too. Enjoy!
