Hi Rose, so besides emergency fund, if I have $10k in a saving account at the bank, I shouldn't put all $6,000 to Roth IRA, and the other $4,000 to a brokerage account? I should contribute each month with a certain amount (let's say $500 instead of buying stocks with all of my spare money ($10,000) at once? I kind don't understand totally the dollar cost average

Try DCA 2.0: when the stocks are higher then previous buys by for 250 instead of 500. If lower then add the 250 you “saved” to the 500. Buy for 750. This way you always buy Lower with more money. 😎

@iboxirun4 жыл бұрын
I hadn't thought about that. Excellent idea, thank you!!!
@RecordCheese4 жыл бұрын
What if it keeps getting higher for 3 months, you'll have 750 and the next month could be an time high and if not then, you'll eventually have to make choice to go in with the extra cash and that could be way more expensive. On top of this, you'll also have down time. Did you try it? Were the results better??
@j6e5t44 жыл бұрын
@@RecordCheese no, not tried that. I used to do it weekly on Silver, but I stopt because the stocks were in the same range a long time. But if you believe in the asset you put your money in, and leave it there it could be a nice way to do it.

In my opinion, and being a midlife investor, Rose is sharing absolute pearls of wisdom! If you look behind Rose's left shoulder, you will see a number of books that are critical for any investor. The #1 book that stands out the most is the maroon covered book titled The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. Written in 1949, the principals of this "how to" guide ring true then, now, and will continue in the future. It is widely known as the Bible for value investing.

"With ETFs, there is not a way to automatically purchase more every month." - That is not true. With M1 Finance app, you can automatically purchase every month, regardless of Stocks or ETFs. There's no fee to invest or re balance. The HUUUGE advantage ETFs have over mutual funds is the lower cost of entry. Mutual Funds have minimum investments unlike ETFs, where the minimum investment is the cost of 1 unit of ETF. Overall, I like your content and your delivery. I've noticed it to be fairly accurate and delivered with no drama. Keep up the good work!

Interesting video, however, I would like to share using lump sum method vs DCA Using Microsoft as an example: If I go back 3 years and buy 1 share at the beginning of each month, I would have 36 shares with an average share price of $152 a share and a total invested of approximately $5237. At today's MSFT price of 248 a share...that would be a profit of $3691. Not bad. If I took my total invested and bought 36 shares in one lump sum 3 years ago for $90 a share...my cost would have been $3240 and my profit today would be $5688. That is a 2k difference. If you are young and have the capitol, then lump sum seems to be the way to go most of the time. If you are leery of putting everything in all at once, then invest about half of what you intend to put into a stock and then make 2 more purchases in the next 2-3 months.
