This is my parody review of Dollar General.
Below I list the faults that i personally experinced. My goal is to make you aware of how things are behind the sceens.
(TL;DR Summary)
Dollar General has an extremly high turn over rate. They fire people for makeing mistakes before they have a chance to learn and improve. People quit because DG treats them like theives, and pays them extremely poorly both in hourly wages and hours to work.
1) Dollar General is at war with its employees.
In the CBL (Computer Based Learning) training videos that all employees are required to watch; if you can sit through all the cringe inducing corperate mannerisims, you learn that 70% of all shrink (merch that is unacounted for) is the "*Fault*" of employees. They make this very clear. Saying "due to mistakes, theft, miscontuct, or malintent, employees are the biggest cause of shrink." And then it shows you several videos of Dollar General employees stealing merchendice, or cash. And then the video says "sometimes employees will be tempted to steal because of finacial problems or encloseing bills to pay..." which may seem reasonable, but not to the extent DG goes to. Cameras are everywhere watching customers and employess, but thats normal, walmart and many other businesses do that. But DG goes even further, if you have a purse or bag, it must be opened and inspected by other co-workers every time youre about to leave. DG will search your vehicle as they please, and if you refuse the search, it will be documemted and could result in termination. These are just a few examples but #1 is long enough already.
2) Employees are payed the absolute least that is legally permitted. In maryland, at this time, the minumum wage is $8.75. I left my previous job at walmart making $10 and hour and 30 hours a week, because the interviewer at dollar general assured me that the enviorment is much more welcomeing (i asked her how "corporate DG was, because i didnt want to trade one corperation for another".) After getting my employee number, i wasnt put on the schedual for another 3 weeks.
3) The hours are HORRIBLE. DG demands that managers maintain as many employees as possible. BUT give each of them as few hours as possible. My first week i was schdualed to work 3 days for 7 hours each. My 2nd week i was schudalled to work 2 days.
4) DG does NOT care about your work ethic.
During the 3 weeks i was employed but not working, one day at random i was called to assist a store 20 miles away from the store i was employeed at because someone there called out. I agreed to go. No training. Not even on the schedual yet, i got set up at the register and serviced dozens of customers. Handleing hundreds if not thousands of dollers into the bank of DG. Which to this day i still have not been paid for. And again before my first schdualed day, someone called out at my local DG, and i went in to cover. And a third time after my first schedualed day i covered Another person who called out when im supposed to be off. I covered so many shifts that the acting store manager told me that i cant cover anymore shifts this week because i was getting too close to 40 hours.
5) DG doesnt have time for you to learn, many first time mistakes result in termination. You get con'ned into giving incorrect change? Youre fired. Youre cash short $50 but the camera's have no evidence that you stole it? Youre fired. It doesnt matter if its youre first time, or 200th.
Anyway im boycotting DG because i refuse to support these buisness practices. But what you do with your money is up to you, i just wanted to make you aware of what youre supporting.

Update: June, 2018
Wow, okay, so we are approching 10k veiws. More than all of my other videos put together. I never expected this video to garner so much attention. In the video above I said I would release the full recorded conversation between me and the District Manager if this video got popular enough...
Unfortunately I no longer have it... Sorry. I lost the recording when I got my new phone and transfered the storage from my "Brick" Galaxy s3 to my current Galaxy s5. I lost all my ringtones, sounds, pictures, videos, and yes even the full 30 minute recording of the conversation with the District Manager.
Im sorry I haven't been honest about this until now. I was hopeing nobody would question me on it, and so far nobody has, but my honor compells me to come clean, even if it is a year late.
