I think she put the sponges/border to absorb the light so it's less distracting.

A black border helps with contrast if there is light around the screen.

The projector I bought was a true 1080p projector with Bluetooth and it came with a 100 inch screen for less than $150

This is a fire idea. Think I'm gonna try this maybe. Only thing I'd do diff is maybe using the black tape they have as a border instead. And maybe using those foam boards they have in black to go behind the shower curtain. I've noticed if you get a screen that has a dark layer on the back it prevent the light from escaping through a screen.creating a better picture

I just made a 95 inch screen from white poster board and black tape as the border for $11. Looks way better than the screen I bought for $20. That thing looked worse than my wall.

Haha yes I don't have to worry about rain. The scrubbing pads worked as a border with no issues. But I redid it the next year using exterior masking tape by Gorilla Tape as the border around a new shower curtain. Works soooo well and faster to put up

In all honesty you would be much better served with just a $9 bed sheet from Walmart - cotton has a lot better quality for screen compared to cheap shower curtain.
