Some people are talking about how they don't think this is a pride doll, because it doesn't scream pride. A pride doll literally just has to be LGBT+ to be "considered a pride doll" There's plenty of dolls like that, I live the uniqueness of this doll and how you have to know the story behind her to know she's a "pride doll"
@radiationprince4 жыл бұрын
The doll isn't even LGBT+ tho. She just said she was adopted by a gay couple. That's it. Obviously it doesn't have to "scream pride" to be about pride, but thats not why ppl are saying this. It's because it just feels like she wanted to make a monster doll then slapped an lgbt positive backstory onto her after the fact. It feels like hollow performative allyship. That's why people are pointing it out.
@Dolllynx4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Flashflood! For me, Pride month is about acceptance and equality and she being called a monster, sewn together from different human parts and still able to find love and love herself is a good representation for me personally. I did not give her an exlicit sexual orientation because I did not find that important. Since she's fighting for equality I thought it was already obvious that she's also LGBT+, my bad. It's totally fine if people wished for something different as a representation for pride month. This is just mine and the way I feel about it.

can i just say. pride isnt just about lgbtqia+. its about equality, and being proud of who you are. the lgbtqia's just adopted the day as their own. i hate when people dont understand this. its a month of passion, and being proud. not if your gay or not. Theres gay pride, and normal pride.

I feel like this doll is the true reprisentation of the fight for equlity. On the outside she looks very creepy, and disturbing, but when you hear her story, and feel her kindness, you start to relize that she dizerves as much as you and I. That is what makes me love this doll because it makes you feel something, and I wish one day that my dolls will be like that, more than a decoration sitting on a shelf. Also sorry for my spelling. :[

I think this doll is a great portrayal of what many LGBTQ+ kids go through. Kelani was made by her "parent" with a certain purpose in mind and when she rebelled against that she was forced to leave in order to be herself. But out in the world people scorned her because of her differences (something she has no control over, and can't change) and she faced the same circumstances many that many LGBTQ+ kids who run away from home face (threat of violence, homelessness etc). IDK I understand what people are saying about it not being overtly pride-themed but for me, I can see the parallels that dollynx drew from real life in a more literal sense.

While I love this doll it's kind of insensitive to give a dark-skinned doll blue eyes due to its negative "magical poc" trope. eye color is directly linked to skin tone via melanin. While it's not impossible it's super unlikely. I'm not saying change it, but be aware of it in the future when choosing eye types. Again, it's an amazing doll and I love it.
@electraheart77453 жыл бұрын
Yo. I can’t help but think the same thing when I see the dark skinned dolls with light blue or gray eyes I think green is more common than the former. I’m American and not white so I tend to overanalyze anything about race but in my experience a lot European doll artists don’t see this is a con. I’m not surprised honestly.

everyone keeps saying "a pride doll doesnt need to be covered in rainbows n stuff just to be lgbt!!" and things along those lines (which is true, but not the point im trying to make)... but as a gay person, this doesnt feel like a pride doll at all: it feels like she just wanted to make a monster doll and then slapped a lgbt positive background on her in the post credits-- its a lovely doll and a lovely story, but it feels a lil empty as a pride month special, and i say this as a gay person. It doesnt feel like there was heart put into it for pride. ... I seen other comments, like one in particular, say "On the outside she looks very creepy, and disturbing, but when you hear her story, and feel her kindness," and that really rubs me wrong. Do you think LGBT+ are creepy and disturbing? This isnt a question @ dollynx more just in general for anyone-- I think there's something weird about a pride doll being a frankensteins monster who was made to be a slave. There's something very wrong here. Its difficult to put into words since I'm not smart, but it feels wrong, and it feels bad. Not to mention, she's not even LGBT from what you said in her backstory, only that she was adopted by two gay men. How is that a pride character? ... Generally, this feels like very lazy performative allyship.... additionally, I don't know Dollynx's orientation, so I can't say much to her, but I want it to be said in general, if you're cis/straight, and going to make an LGBT character (which this is not?), you do NOT need to go into how their life was full of hardships because of it, or how they face homophobia or transphobia, or whatnot. This is not to say, you cannot comment on those things or just ignore that they exist... But I think those kinds of stories are better told by LGBT people themselves, who can share their own personal experiences if they choose. LGBT characters dont always need to suffer just for the sake of suffering because its "realistic".......... I dont know, if that made much sense, but I wanted to say something because this felt very empty. ... EDIT WAIT I ALMOST FORGOT TO SAY gay monsters slap hard because monsters ARE cool as hell, but i think cis/straight people should also be careful when making a monster lgbt bc the implications can be HAHA... BAD!! Its not like inherently a bad thing to do but like-- this prolly doesnt apply here exactly bc its a doll, not rlly a character in a story or group of ocs-- but like i guess just question your motives for doing so and check if the monster is the only lgbt or why theyre a monster and things like that.. Just be aware of the image youre giving off lmao

I think it was a super amazing representation of pride. Pride isn't about flashy things, its about fighting for human rights. I feel like something like rainbow hair is just taking pride at a surface level, only seeing the flashy rainbows and sparkles. Imo, having a doll that doesn't focus on the flashy features or glitter and unicorns is really good, because it represents the fight that pride is really about. The rainbows are an added bonus tho

Just an idea for the waste of merging two dolls. One if could just be used for other dolls (like a spare body or hands or legs etc) if it’s the doll size you frequently use. But if it’s like this one you could’ve taken two dolls and just merged the two dolls and had one be a male and one female the monster and his bride (the monster is NOT Frankenstein, he had no name and was only known as the monster, the idea being this was the product of man being able to create life that he would immediately reject the creation, the scientist was Viktor Frankenstein... end rant
