Dolly’s singing has always moved me like no other singer can and it’s just moments like the very end of the song when it’s almost faded out that make my hair stand on end. When she so beautifully delivers the last “here you come again” in what I can only describe as a harmoniously angelic voice. Unfortunately for me my vocabulary is poverty stricken to the point that I can’t come near as I’d like to describing this woman’s amazing talent.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught this. I'm amazed myself! Yes, the music playing is a playback of the studio album version, but not of Dolly's voice. No lip sync, Dolly is singing straight into the mic and her voice is as glorious as on her album. Anyone not certain just needs to listen close during the refrains and the outro to here the subtle and delightful differences from the album version. Apart from that, it's hard to tell the difference between Dolly's live singing and recorded. That is talent, indeed!

This song shot to #1 on the country charts, #2 on the adult contemporary charts and #3 on the US Billboard pop charts in 1977. This was when KISS, a New York glitter group, was the top live act, and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was all over the pop charts. Also, Son of Sam was finally caught, after the blackout riots in NYC. The country decided that it was getting tired of New York's shit by late '77. Dolly Parton sailed up to #3 in this musical and cultural ecosystem.
