Dolores' role when she was brought in was to be a mediator between Theresa and Melissa/Joe since she has been a long-time real-life friend of them. Ironically Frank has always played a role in this because he is very level-headed despite the stereotype these rowdy Jersey husbands get. Jersey is the only franchise where collectively the husbands have consistently gave to the drama and storylines, more than any other franchise. I agree tho I wouldn't have used these words. Frank has had things the way he likes them since he divorced Dolores. They're great friends, they're in and out each others houses, they meet up regularly and their children have a great relationship with both. But they are divorced, and up until now, he's been able to maintain his relationship with D because of the nature of the guys she has dated, AND live the single life that he wanted, since the divorce. Pauli isn't that kind of guy. He's serious about her and he wants a normal relationship with her, and that doesn't involve Frank being a very active number 3 in the relationship. He wants Frank to back off - something Frank hasn't had to do since the divorce. Dolores says Frank doesn't like change - but he dumped his marriage when he had affairs. He tested a good woman and he lost her. I believe Frank will always, always be there for Dolores. I believe he actually loves her, in his own way. I believe he will always be there to help, defend and support her. But he gave up all his rights many years ago, and that's just coming home to roost now.
