Dolphin Gyro Control Scheme for Steam Deck

I'm so appreciative of this video. I had just downloaded your control scheme and had no clue how to use the gyro. It's a bit sensitive, in Mario Galaxy at least, but I'm glad it works!

I did eventually figure out how to configure everything. Took me awhile to notice that you had a dead zone set for the shake of the "wii remote". Video otherwise was a good step to understanding how it works without holding my hand even if it was a little frustrating.

This is for advanced users. If you are new to Steam Input, I would not try to tackle gyro/motion controls for Dolphin. It usually has to be customized per game and is truly a headache.

Literally no one is making videos on how to set up motion controls, I’ve installed the DSU client but no matter what I do dolphin will not register any gyro input at all. No idea what to do at this point.

You have your Gyro enabled and a trigger for it to activate on the Steam Controller Settings right?

Hey.. my Gyro just doest work. It is not detected in dolphin settings

Make sure you have it turned on in steam controller settings. It won’t show as gyro it will show like in the video

Great video for getting started, but i think i can improve on it. I used your basic set up, but i set the point to be controlled by the cursor only which is controlled by the right track pad and touch screen. Then I increased the dead zone of the shake and lowred the sensitivity of the gyro in the steam input menu. This way i can just leave the Gyro on, and it works great for shaking inputs. Havent had a chance to test it for tilt yet however

how did tilt go. i'm trying and struggling to get gyro working on Speed Racer Wii

@mastersitsu it works but it's finicky and absolutely not suited for anything that requires precision, so Speed Racer on Wii (nice choice btw) is definitely out (sorry). Maybe with some more tweaking we could get it consistent, but I kinda gave up once I was able to get some functionality to NSMB Wii.

Also, sorry, I found your layout on steam, however I'm having trouble mapping it all to Dolphin itself. Is there any way you could walk us through that? I'm trying to play Twilight Princess but I can't get past the menu screen because it requres gyro, which I don’t know how to configure in the actual emulator.

I’m not sure what the issue is with that. Gotta be a steam thing. It shows it is uploaded and available from my profile but when I search from another profile I have the same issue. I’ll try fiddling with it from desktop and see if I can figure it out.

Ah, never mind, found out why, it's because I was in Emustation, your config did show up when adding Dolphin to Steam. Is there any way you could share it in Emustation too ?

You should be able to find it by searching “R4H”. I have a couple out there.

@leozar69 I haven’t done it myself. I assume it will be like: Add the emulator to Steam, enable gyro using steam input. But the way games launch as a new window can be hit or miss with steam input actually applying the layout for that window. I found this video where he is setting up gyro for desktop mouse. Hi, would there be any possibility that you could release a download link to the template file? Apparently after 8 months, they still cant manage to fix the "searching up" issue.. Edit: I found out why. Steam is VERY Case sensitive. Since you uploaded your Template to the Version you made by linking the Dolphin Emu directly, yours is called "Dolphin Emulator". Most people use EmuDeck, which links it directly and calls it "Dolphin (Emulator)". Those tiny brackets alone are enough to prevent you from finding it.

@@mateowoetam ah yes. In the “General and Options” tab I have A as A, B as Y, 1 as X, 2 as B, Start as Menu, Select as Magnify, Dpad as Dpad. From there you can change them to your liking in the Steam Controller Settings like in the video.

@@ROGUEI4IHIRE Joy-cons work like Wii motes on dolphin. so if you could some how prop up the steam deck then you can actually play all games that have Wii mote and nunchuk controls (they use gyro for the pointer but I tried a very precise pointer mini game in Mario party 8 and it has the accuracy of a Wii mote).

With the Game, Dolphin, or Emulation Station launched... Steam button -> Controller Settings -> Controller Settings -> Gyro Behavior dropdown set to "As Joystick" I'll warn you, there is a lot of tinkering involved and it needs customized per game. Based on your question, I would recommend getting used to customizing Steam Input before you go down this path.

This is a configuration video bud, not a college course on how to push buttons or think for yourself. As to your comment that TR is not explained, it is when I mention TR being the RB and RB mapped to touch.

@@GUY-on-Earth right. In Steam Controls make RB your gyro disable. Then map your stick touch to be RB. RB shows up as TR In Dolphin.

I did it this way so I can disable gyro at will via RB but also have it auto disable when I am using the stick
