Great review. I wanted the sonar 30 but it was not available when I was ready to buy so I purchased the sonar 50. Works great. Now that the 30 is available, I would recommend that you save a little money and buy that over the 50.

A firmware update on the seauto crab has basically diminished the water line scrubbing - watch out for updates on this one !

That's impressive for the cost. Perhaps you could simply add a sheet of fine media filter to the bottom of the basket!

I've heard of people adding those skimmer socks to baskets and getting good results. I haven't tried it myself but sounds doable!

Hi David, stumbled onto your channel and really like the content. Our Polaris 935 is officially done for after a few years. I am looking at a surface skimmer and leaning towards the Aiper Surfer or the Betta you showed off in another video. Also need a floor and water line robot. I am overwhelmed by the amount of choice lol. What would you recommend as a good combo? We have a kidney shaped pool with gunite curved steps. The surface always has pollen, small bugs etc so would love a surface skimmer, I don't necessarily need wireless robot , I am skeptical about batteries and longevity and would like to stay at appx $1500ish in total for the 2... any suggestions? Thank you

Hello! If you're considering a skimmer and cleaner combo then you will definitely have to get a cordless cleaner. All skimmers on the market currently will get tangled into the cord of a corded robotic cleaner. They're not quite yet advanced enough to detect cords and to get around cords. Does that change your opinion on getting a skimmer or cordless?

Makes no sense this having only one mode. The seauto crab, Smonet CR6, Hinson A7Max, and other "crab" clones, all unlock the floor only and the walls only modes when you download their app and choose to unlock the modes. Then you never have to use the app again if you don't want to. Since this Niya Sonar 30 is a basically the same except with the improved lid, it should also have an app and the option to unlock the same modes as the other "crabs".

I totally agree. They obviously have the technology to do it because it seems like all it takes is a software update. But in these cases, it's always about profits. They want you to spend more for their higher models for those options. Even though it's one of Maytronics least expensive models, they're still a big brand and will charge more when they can.

Yes, the Dolphin Skimmi has been on my list to buy once released. On first view it seems overpriced. But after doing some research I found it has some extra features other cleaners don't... like some really neat ones lol

Yes! Most cleaners that work for in-ground pools will work fine for above-grounds. But not the other way around.

@@imdefinitelydavid I hesitated with the Aiper S1 and the Wyrobot C1. but after your review it made me choose the Sonar 30 which is 399€ in France compared to 599€ for the s1 and 649€ for the c1 😅 am I making the right choice?

As a plug and play, turn on and use and take out cleaner, the Sonar 30 wins. The Scuba S1 and Wybot C1 have weekly timers, that's the real benefit of those two. But if you don't mind not having one, the Sonar 30 will work great!

Bumps? Like slopes in the pool? It should do fine over slopes and curves

I prefer the niya 50 because of the extra cleaning modes. On some days when the floor is covered in leaves, it's nice to switch to only Floor mode and have it focus quickly on the floors. Also nice to have just Wall mode to run once every other work for an extra scrub on just the walls. It's not necessary but it's nice to have them as extra/quick options.

Well for me, I prefer a cleaner with a weekly timer and out of those two, the Scuba S1 has one. Unfortunately the Niya doesn't. If it did though, I would go for the Niya. But you might not want a timer?
