Same here, only got into LOTR a few months ago. I can't believe how well it all holds up - they started filming those movies before I was even born, and the books are older than my parents. And yet both are miraculously still brilliant and relevant to this day, I can connect to them just as much as people 20 or 70 years ago did, and that's pretty crazy.

In fairness, I can appreciate how nervous they may have been. Fellowship landed with one hell of an impact, so it's perhaps reasonable to expect the second not to do as well. As it turns out, I pretty much agree with the IMDB ratings. 8.8, 8.8, 9.0. Each movie was excellent. Seems even the Academy awards agreed, holding back until the third film and then just saying, "You know what, you win. You win everything".
