i suggest a 3 block gap, just periodically poke into it if you're worried about missing something in the middle layer. since artifacts are 2x2 you wont miss them and you'll find everything you want much quicker

I also started doing this instead. Most useful resources show up diagonally next to eachother, rather than a 1 block line, so you won't miss it in the middle strip.

keep 4-5 iron, 2-3 water or 1-2 cobalt deposits laying around if you see them near the top just in case you find a tree seed, itl be very helpful for creating extra resources near the top of the map every wave, it may be helpful to take them straight away but it's even more helpful to have a maxed mount of resources tree all the way at the top rather than one near the bottom if you dont get a tree then you know you got a safe large amount of resources at the top easy to pick

Great tips, an extra tip: there is a cave called the X-ray cave, taking two iron to see two blocks deep, when you get it, you can make it 4 blocks wide instead of two blocks wide when mining
