I barely started taking apart my GameCube controller and I just can’t stop customizing. I had an old game cube controller w a chewed up analog but worked perfect. I swapped it w a wii nunchuck analog and I love the look and now an unusable controller is one of my favorite ones!!

zenith SSBM They are third party. I don't know how they work yet (still waiting for my tri wing), but they do seem to work well in the broken nunchuks I have.

zenith SSBM So I got them, and after trying them out, I can definitely say they feel nice. The clicks don't sound the best, as the stick is a best more to the left in order to fit, but they do work well.

One interesting thing to test is if the thinner stem of the control stick makes the travel distance longer, and by that I mean the center of the stick will move past where the original stick would move when you hit the shell of the controller, and if so, would it get closer to the input cardinal value of 1.

yeah I got a bbc blue control stick; I think it was too tall because I had the same problem when I put a control freak on the default stick. Idk why it happens but I just couldn't use it since every time I tried to foxtrot I would pivot :(

Is it possible that the increased height and thinner control stick means you can achieve more extreme x axis values (eg. getting closer to "fully" left or right, something which GCCs sometimes have a natural variation in)?

I ordered the 3rd party kit from battlebeaver and I am disapointed with the quality of the sticks. The rubber of the control stick rubbed away within a couple months, and the c stick didn't even fit on the controller. Would the rubber wear of super quickly on the domed sticks?

moonspeak Domed aka Convexed grips allow for fine movement where as concave is great for quick flicks. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

Hello everyone! recieved my blue domed stick. Quality is nice, great options of colors; unfortunately, I couldn't play alot of ssbu or SSBM because the height difference cause my thumb to hurt. I did feel the stick getting stuck causing weird movements out of no where. All in all I would recommend if you have already been playing with a wii nunchuck

I got one of these in purple and I'm not too happy with it. The hole was too small so I had to file it down a bit to get it on the stickbox, and the skirt is a bit smaller and shallower than an OEM stick so when the joystick is tilted it's possible to see down into the controller which I don't like. I don't mind the feel and I enjoy the extra bit of height, at least in the short term, but I don't want to leave this on the controller because of the open hole it leaves when moving around so I don't know that I'll ever use it for real on a controller.

Where did you find the colored D-Pad? Battle Beaver Customs only offers colored ABXY&Start buttons and Controller Chaos offers customized controllers with colored shoulder buttons and D-Pad, but there's nowhere to buy those colored buttons separately. Thanks for the video, this is great knowledge. I already play with a PS3 stick, but this sounds even better.

It may just be me, but it seems like the domed sticks are similar to the Hori Mini Pad sticks, which are bigger than the gamecube sticks and are taller. Is this true?

the n64 ones? those are more like enlarged actual Gamecube controller sticks where as this is more like a PS3's stick

If Smash on Switch ever comes out, they absolutely will. You may also be able to find some at smaller local retro video game stores. The one I usually go to bought a ton of them from their distributor so they could sell those instead of the 3rd party GC controllers they were selling before since they're better quality and more sought after.

Is this not just a standard ps3 stick? You can get colored ps3 sticks on eBay and AFAIK they look the same. I've been using white ps3 sticks and it seems to be the same, but they're much cheaper

yeah, they sent me a new one, but they do feel different than the original thubsticks and at least mine has more snapback as well. I prefer to use the wii nunchuck analog sticks instead as they dont hurt my hands as much and fit better than this one. I think its all preference though as the wii nunchuck sticks are slightly taller as well and i can see that throwing off a lot of people, but I got used to it fast and like it.

the cheap button sets i did a video on has everything youre looking for! the kits come with start,a,b,x,y,z buttons r,l triggers d-pad control and c -sticks for a low price. they work great execpt for the z-button whick naturally doesnt fit in a shell well. "ShinG" did a great video on how to get it to fit tho and once it does youre good to go!

i believe if you really try you can just rip them off especially if theyre used heavily. a combination of bending and pulling should do it

Luckily for me, I didn't have to buy a new stick, I had a bootleg PS2 Controller lying around with broken face buttons. It fits just fine but there is some times when the top of the stick might barely scrape the top of the shell, and it sounds like ass but it works well

thanks man! unfortunately xbox one controller sticks (at least the ones on my original xbone controller) dont fit on a gcc. not sure about the elites. its strange actually bc xbone sticks work on wii u pro controllers, and wii u pro controller sticks work on gcc but xbone sticks wont work on gcc and gcc wont fit on xbone (at least in my testing - has to deal with the way the insides of the stick is shaped)

I have a GameCube controller that has a crappy left stick, cosmetically and internally, the stick box is worn down pretty bad and the cap is chewed. The C-stick is good but the cap is chewed up as well, so if I ever get to replacing the stick box I will probably consider buying these stick caps.

i saw the reviews too, they complain they dont fit which i didnt have a problem with at all.. however them having a thin shaft is totally a valid possible con if you dont want the stick thinner because like i mentioned in the video, it affects the feeling of the control stick and can possibly mess with your controller's feeling, dashes, etc.

You can use Wii nunchuk sticks but they are considerably taller and have no friction against the walls of the controller thus feel like they move faster. I don't play Smash competitively so I don't know if fine movements are required.

As someone who played FALCO for a long time and eventually tested a NUNCHUK STICK (from the Wii's nunchuk) for around a year, it felt nice but later on from trying the normal GC stick again I realized it is inferior to just a good normal gamecube control stick. I tried to narrow down the tangible reason, and it felt something like you become less PRECISE and going from LEFT/RIGHT isn't as QUICK/EASY. It felt nice, stylish, and comfy: but I wouldn't switch back. The fact that it's taller (though the WiiU controller's stick is shorter apparently, haven't tested it though you said it sucked from the shortness anyways kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGXVeqaqga2Ggsk), wider, and doesn't have ridges makes it feel optimally dumb for best performance. I also think it was making me Side-b a little bit more easily on accident. So without testing that stick and assuming it's similar enough to the nunchuk: FUCK THAT STICK IF YOU CARE ABOUT PLAYING YOUR VERY BEST. I also tried a Nunchuk and Control stick for C-stick as well for a bit, they likewise suck compared to how the C-stick is suppose to be.

the wii u's is shorter than the nunchuck and regular stick but interesting point! i personally also prefer the regular stick but ive heard many people like the nunchuck stick and this domed one as well. do you think it could be just something that players have to get used to when switching sticks?

No. I was use to it since I used it for a year and liked it, but after switching back I realized the very minor detriments. I still miss it a little bit when I think about it but it's slightly clunkier to execute because of it's tallness and whatnot.

really late comment but i got these cause my oem stick had no rubber. as well as some white buttons with trans tops. super super dope looking. but the stick didnt fit on my controller. The bbc stick cavity (female end) had a different shape then the OG one and wouldnt fit on the male end of my controller. the stick ended up not sliding onto it all the way and thus the inner sphere rubbed on the shell and you could see a gap inside shell when it was held all the way in any direction.. I milled out the bbc stick with a small drill and it fits on but can now be pulled up while in the case to the fucked position it was in before milling but thats only a problem if i do that shit on purpose lol. but down it now has no gap and works perfectly. long story short with even with a little jank involved with me tooling it for fitment it feels better than any stick I've ever used. Like holy shit wild improvement. Didnt know about them til this vid and now i might reup all my "guest" controllers.

zenith SSBM well, a ps3 controllers do in fact have a cap. What i mean is just the part they put on the stick so your not just touching the platic that makes up the stick. You can take out the rubber cap on the gamecube controller and put a ps3 rubber cap on it, its very good. I took it to some locals and played a lot better.

Good video but I don't think you should take clips out of context like 0:38 to try and prove a point. It's common knowledge that Armada and all the top players are so precious about their controllers because their analogue sticks are "defective" and give them a slight advantage when executing certain techniques. This defect is fairly rare so Armada was being so drunkenly upset because it would mean having to buy a bunch of new controllers or being charged up the ass by someone who knows the value of what they have. It has nothing to do with the "feeling" of the controller of the padding on the stick.

Well even though it's just a stick, and backdash definitely wouldn't be effected, the height and thickness of the stick could potentially effect how shield drops are performed, even just a little bit.

snapback was a huge problem; as a sheik main I use fox trotting alot and because of how tall the stick is it would sometimes make me to an empty pivot by going past the neutral zone on its way back

I was interested until I found out it was taller, I played with a nunchuck stick in my controller and it actually fucked my whole arm up because I'm a fox main that does a whole bunch of moon walks, boost walks, etc.. Both me and my friend who both play fox experience some pretty bad hand pains from the stick being taller, though his was worse and he actually had to go see a doctor about it and he was at the borderline for carpal tunnel

I have a friend that plays puff and to this day still plays with the nunchuck stick to this day, I'm guessing once it starts getting into the need to dash dance around more and whatnot that problems actually start to come up

I've tried using this stick myself and it does feel good. This stick, however, was made for Xbox and PS4 and not for melee. This is not a very good stick to use because it was not made for a game with as high of a apm as melee and will wear out very quickly.This stick is also much taller than the original and will not work with the gamecube controller cases sold by battle beaver and controller chaos
