Dometic 972 Portable Toilet

I love this Dometic potty. However, there are three weak points. First, the white plastic yellows over time and I can't find a way to clean off the yellowing because I think the plastic itself, yellows. Second, the very small clips that hold on the toilet seat break in time, so be very careful with these very thin plastic clips. Other that that, it's easy to use, easy to dump and clean, I love it and recommend it.

Our Dometic 972 makes a sound like a seal when we pump it before flushing. It’s very distracting and we don’t want to wake neighboring campers. Any suggestions for what we might use to stop the squeaking? We’ve tried Vaseline and wd-40 to no avail. Thanks for any suggestions!

I've never heard of this sorry, sounds like you've already tired the things I would suggest. Maybe take the pump out and put it back in, see if you can see anything strange when you operate the pump whilst it isn't in the toilet. ~ Ben

Very helpful for me deciding which shitter will fit through the cupboard door of my 2004 Avan Aliner. Door hole is 32cm H x 48cm W. (Remembering the lock catch tongue, otherwise 33cm H). I don't want to mod it. I like Dometic brand. The 3 way fridge is also Dometic. Are parts available for this? How many turds can you dump in it before she starts to back up into the bowl? How many flushes? Looks like you can't regulate the amount of flush? If you have piles is the blood likely to stain the plastic? I take my cat camping. Is it OK to drop the cat turds and litter wee clumps in it to? Can you get it in just all white instead of 2 tone? When you take a dump does the degraded waste splash back up on your balls or ring? If so do the chemicals burn?

You can definitely pick up parts although they're not always easy to come by. The colour on these loo's are as they come I'm afraid and I haven't seen any alternatives. Dometic advise you'll get around 27 flushes out of a tank, and the waste tank can hold up to 9.8L of 'turds'...how many turds that actually adds up to depends very much on your diet, and fibre intake. I probably wouldn't be adding kitty litter into it, I dont think you'll have issues with the bowl staining, and as for splashback on your balls and ring? I personally couldnt tell you. ~ Lauren

@@SnowysOutdoors thanks for taking the time to reply Lauren. I visited a few local stores recently and kept hearing that Dometic no longer do spare parts for their toilet range. I think I'll be settling for a Thetford 335 instead. Looking on their website it says they are 31.5cm high which should just fit through the door for the storage cupboard in the van. How disgusting is it to empty one of these? I’m interested in a porta potty like this for camping, but no one actually shows it with real human waste.

Apart from a few toilet smells (nothing worse than your average public toilet), these are pretty clean and easy to empty, woolengrappler. It has a large spout to pour the waste from and as long as you open the breather valve and pour steadily you'll find the emptying of these to be pretty straightforward. Make sure you are emptying them into an approved dump point, these can be found all over Australia and in particular in caravan parks. ~ Ben

Well it's not the nicest operation in the world. I can't empty after each use as I spend long trips stealth camping. So no, it's not a lovely job, but the waste is generally just a dark grey black sludge, you can't actually discern any contents. Even paper will have broken down within a day (assume you're using either blue or green chemical). As my old granddad used to say: "it's your own bloomin muck". It's fine.
