Good job fishing that through. I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism. The part is called a Thermistor. Keep in mind, you were also reading kilohms. So that was 8,800 ohms. A good Dometic Thermistor should ohm out between 7k and 10k ohms. Norcold would be between 30k and 32k.

Thanks for posting your method of firstly checking the thermistor and then how you went about swapping out the faulty one. Good work. I will keep this in mind if ever my refrigerator goes bung.

I had the same idea as you. Use the old thermistor as a 'mule' to pull the new thermistor through the hole. Thanks for uploading.

Helpful video and great fish-tapery, too. Some helpful tips: 1. Always turn off the unit before pulling wire or working on it, so you dont accidentally short something. 2. . The temperature sensor is not a thermostat, but a thermistor, which is an inexpensive solid state temp sensor, aka "probe" in this video. 3. This thermistor's resistance values are reversely proportional to the actual temperature. So, on a Dometic, the higher the reading in ohms on a Fluke meter, the closer it gets to 10,000 ohms, or 10K, the "colder" the motherboard thinks it is in the refrigerator compartment. At 10,000 ohms, it thinks it's Siberia and ceases cooling. Likewise, if there's an "open" in the wire, if you were to cut the white thermistor cable, or if a very dirty connection, that all looks like Siberia to the main board, due to high resistance reading, so it shuts off cooling. If you were to put a 1 or 2 K ohm resistor across that two wire connector at the main board, it would think it's too hot, it's the Sahara, and engage full cooling. Reverse proportionality, aka a "reverse acting sensor". 4. Using a piece of # 16 or #14 THHN wire and electrical tape is exactly how electricians fish a wire through a conduit or drywall. There's actually a slightly easier way: once you determine the OEM thermistor is bad with your meter (and you will need a good DMM like a Fluke), cut off the white Molex connector at the main board side. Attach the #14 or #16 gauge wire with electrical tape to that cut end. Pull the wire from the refrigerator side. Once you have wire coming thru into the refigerator compartment, tape the small cylindrical end of thermistor to the exterior end of your pull wire, or "fish tape", and pull that smaller end into the refrigerator compartment. Then attach the white plastic bracket or clip to the sensor on the refrigerator side, and plug the 2 conductor white Molex connector into the main board. Power it back up and wait 8 hours for it to cool down. 5. These refrigerators are ammonia-based, and ammonia is extremely toxic and explosive. So, don't mess with the refrigerant portion of the fridge. If you ever smell ammonia leaking out of it, shut it down. Clear out. Call the manufacturer immediately.

That’s a huge help! My refrigerator is running too cold, and it’s freezing everything I put in it. My thermistor doesn’t have the white cap on the end, it is just an exposed wire. I’m going to try clipping it and sliding it to the lowest position, but I think I may end up having to replace it. Thanks to you and your video!

From what i have heard and seen if the thermistor is disconnected or the tip off the freg will freeze up. Good luck

good deal on testing the thremistor. I'm just starting out RVing My van is 05 I've had since oct. haven't even tryed to turn on the dometic frieg.can I plug in shore power turn on frieg, how long doe's it take to get cold? I think I read 24 hours is this true or false. I believe it's orginal what are the chances of it working?if it works I would like to only use it on 12VDC.off batterys.thanks for the video Steve
@OurCabinInThewoods Жыл бұрын
I don't know what you have but must of them can plug into shore power and yes they do take about 24 hours to cool down. Heck on my old old camper it work when i sold it. You need to find the model number and google it and then you can read all about the referg. I do alot of off grid camping and use propane and battery but i do have shore hook up also. Good luck

@OurCabinInThewoods Жыл бұрын
I don't think this will be your problem because freezer isn't working. I would check the fuses on the circuit board but also look for leaks. KZbin RV refrig leaking coolant. that is where i would go.
@shawnswafford8169 Жыл бұрын
I was having same issue. Replaced the board because testing the circuit with multi meter I was getting voltage to the board but nothing to either heaters. After board still not running but atleast was detecting voltage for ac but very low. Pulled the thermistor wire off the board and suddenly the gas cycled on. After testing the thermistor it was showing open circuit. I'm letting the fridge run overnight to see what it does without the thermistor then I'll order the replacement
@OurCabinInThewoods Жыл бұрын
@@shawnswafford8169 I think if you do that the will freeze up. But mine is working perfect now good luck.
@shawnswafford8169 Жыл бұрын
@@OurCabinInThewoods it will if you leave it too long but overnight as a test won't. It's no different than wiring the ac heater directly to a cord and plugging it in to test the fridge. It was cold this morning so I've shut it off and ordered the part. Thanks for the video mine tested open. That was what I wanted to know was how a good one tested.

Good video, but my problem is the opposite. My freezer works fine, but the 'fridge is way too cold. 27 to 33 usually. The unit is a 2024 Gulfstream Envision 21QBD. I have tried moving the probe up and down, but it makes no difference at ll.

Hey so our dometic fridge has that problem, except when I tried to measure the thermistat we have in rn, it shows 8.8 which means its alright. Tried to let the cable looser so I can move it higher but it doesnt seem to work...any ideas?
@OurCabinInThewoods10 ай бұрын
I learned from working on mine. So if the freezer is working that means compressor is doing what it needs. so what makes the freezer cold is the thermistor. if this was me i would put one in. I really hope it fixes the problem good luck.

@OurCabinInThewoods Жыл бұрын
I'm not a pro at this but i believe the lower the resistance i think the colder it will be. I am assuming your freezer is working great. I would make sure you show no signs of a leak and make sure your sensor is in the right position. I heard someone say if you disconnect the Thermistor it makes it go to deep freeze but only let that happen for my be 4-5 hours because it will freeze up on you. Good luck i hope this helped.

I would be thinking that the roof vent is plugged up. You should be able to open the outside door on the back of the refreg and look up and see if you see the roof vent. I have seen people put fans in the upper vent to remove the hot air faster. good luck.
@dominicbenecasa7893 Жыл бұрын
I added a fan in the roof vent because I'm hotter weather the fridge isn't as efficient.
