Two virtuoso musicians enjoying each others sound.
This was recorded at the Berklee College of Music Red Room at Cafe 939. I arrived 2 hours early to this small venue in order to get a great seat. As it turned out, there were not any seats, we were all standing.

JD just turned 18...potential wise, I'd say we're looking at someone where 50 years down the line, he'll be up there with people like Art Blakely, Tony Williams, etc, maybe I'm speaking too soon but you gotta think about his skillset for that age, genuinely a once in a generation talent.

Elvin Jones and Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette were some of the first drummers to play so free it was deemed "organic" by Bob Moses in his amazing drum book Drum Wisdom....as in it defied our standard notation and definition of what a quarter note, 8th note, 8th note triplet is, etc. This kid is living in this space of beats with everything he plays that anyone would have a difficult time transcribing into any time signature. Incredible stuff, what another legend Frank Zappa liked to call nested tuplets.... mindblowing
