Sorry if the language is incorrect. I've watched a lot of lesson videos, but yours was the easiest to understand. I'm rooting for your channel to continue to grow from Japan.

I’m a left handed player, left eye dominant….. always playing around with alignment using my chin as a reference point, and yes have watched several elite pros play and they’re all different. Joshua Filler, Jayson Shaw, etc, etc. I’ll try using the ink pen method and see where this takes me. Since finding your KZbin page I’m excited to try lots of new things….. and yes I’m totally aware that some may work for me while others do not. That’s the fun thing about pool, try, try and then try harder. Thank you…

Good info. I've messed about a few times a month or so back and always found myself going back to what felt most natural after a few shots. Done the pen test you mentioned and not suprisingly it's right where my cue is naturally.

Thank you. Very useful I will try this as it's something I've been testing but having the cue on the table as a guide looks like it will help me to find centre of vision.

im right eye dominant and the pen comes under corner of my right eye, however when i am down to the shot my head angle is not as 100% straight as it was while standing, which means the pen goes to different chin position while standing but when down since the head position is slightly different the pen goes to different chin position. what can be done? thank you
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool Жыл бұрын
The most important thing is that things look straight when you are down on the shot. If you use the method i show then you can make adjustments when down and then just remember where the cue is touching the chin. The straighter the head the better so you could always try just trying to get this straight but it’s about feeling comfortable as well, so don’t force anything too much if it feels uncomfortable.

@@PoolSchool thank you ,i am right eye dominant just like u, and exactly same spot. however i found that if i tilt my head to left then the cue or pen ends up in centre chin, which i find more comfortable as i have been playing with centre chin for years, and been using wrong centre chin for years do you prefer tilting the head to left and use centre chin or head straight and use right chin as said in video? tnx

I've never managed to find my dominant eye or my center of vision. If I make a hole with my hands with both eyes open and focus on the cue ball I see two holes so I can move left and right and choose the eye that sees through. If I focus con my hand I see two cue balls and the same happens. Also with the pen... at 2:57 that's not what I see. It depends on where I focus my vision, if I focus on the cue ball I see two pens and if I focus on the pen I see two cue balls... So it's imposible to align.
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool Жыл бұрын
You should focus on the cue ball not your hands. For most people the two holes you describe would sort of blend together and become blurred and out of focus. Not come across what you are describing so hard to know what's going on. You don't want to move left and right though, just close one eye and then the other. What happens when you look through one eye at a time?

When I hold a pen out In front. I see 2 pens either side of the ball. Slowly bringing the pen towards my face, looks like I'm looking between 2 post. Would this mean my dominant eye or cue positioning would be in the middle of the chin? EDIT: After doing it multiple times, the cue will be just off centre to the left.

So here's my issue, I started playing left handed because I didn't really know what I was doing. I am right handed, and right eye dominate. Is it worth it to start right handed and re-learn? Or just keep with the left as it feels more natural?
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool Жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say really. How long have you been playing left handed? Usually if you are right handed you would play right handed, but it doesn’t mean you “have to” play right handed. It is about what feels natural to you at the end of the day.

Here is my experience as a "cross eye dominant" pool player: I am right handed, I shoot guns right handed and aim with right eye, but I play pool left handed and cue is on the left side of my chin, more under my left eye. I am "right eye dominant" but I am able to perform with my left eye also. I have tried both sides but I find that left side of the chin is better for me because I can get my face straight towards the shot more easily. If I'm shooting my chin over the cue (right side), I find it hard to get my head straight towards the shot without straining my neck and more often do stroke errors that results in putting unwanted right spin on the cue ball. There are a lot of pro players that play with their chin over the cue but I think that this works better for me. It's about perceiving the shot line straight and your non-dominant eye is also able to do this if the head is in the right position. My eyes also stopped getting tired when I stopped worrying about eye dominance. I guess I thought back then that I have to aim only with the one eye that I'm shooting with. Aim with your both eyes when up and down on the shot, bring your head to the correct position and face straight towards the shot. I think that it is useful information to know your dominant eye but in the end it's not so important for being able shoot straight.

I use a Dewalt framing laser to align 3 balls on the table. Once the shooter is lined up on the three balls, you can see where the laser falls between the eyes. You will know when it's perfect. The laser will split the shaft. As you stroke, the laser will always be centered on the cue tip. I have only actually found 1 person who has a perfect center vision. Also. Place cardboard on the floor with a center line on it that matches the laser line. Once the shooter aligns perfectly, trace the foot positions. Now you know where feet go in relationship to the shot line. This will totally reveal EVERYTHING about YOUR alignment.

I’m right handed but heavily left eye dominant. It feels so unnatural trying to bring my head over the cue to aim with my left eye. Any tips?
@PoolSchool
@PoolSchool 11 ай бұрын
It is a very tricky one as you say because you have to crank your neck over to get the left eye over the cue. The only thing you can do do help is turn your head slightly to the right, so that your left eye is further forward. This aleviates the stretch in the neck a little. It can still feel a little awkward though. Just because you are heavily left eye dominant doesn't necessarily mean your centre of vision is under your left eye though? As I explain in the video, it's worth checking where your centre of vision is using the cue on the table method, as you may find that your centre of vision is a little more towards the centre.

At the 3 minute mark using the pen lined up to the cueball that must be with the dominant open only, with 2 eyes open you'll see 2 pens, You seem to have both open

I am trying to find the “vision centre” here not the dominant eye. If you just look through the dominant eye, the pen with come to your dominant eye. If you just look through your less-dominant eye it will come to that one. The point is that we play with both eyes open so we are looking for the point between them that keeps the target centred. Yes with two eyes open things start to get blurry or seeing double but you just keep to the centre of what you see (it will be different for everyone depending on their vision).
