I'm about to go to my first conference and present my research. I didn't know what to actually expect, and this video helped me a lot! Thanks!

I am learning to let go of my perfectionism and training myself to deliver essays that I know are not perfect but I still loose a huge amount of time overthinking and get frustrated when I get a feedback I don’t think it’s fair. But you are right, keep doing it and it gets better with time 😅

Great content as always. I've done some conference presentations in the past and will be doing one this coming December. But now things are done online and I honestly think it takes out some of the opportunity to connect with your fellow peers. Hopefully it'll change back to the way it used to be so that we can use your valuable tips. Also would really appreciate if you could make a video on how to maximize your chances during a PhD to successfully follow an academic career path. I know you've said the chances are slim and it depends on so many factors and specially luck but just want to know how you could maximize the chances.

Great tips! Thanks for sharing. I have found planning ahead (what I want to gain by attending a conference) and networking very key.

Thanks for this, I have a conefrence in sprin 2023 and all i want to do is vomit at the thought of presenting. While this isn't my first conference its the first time I'll be presenting my ideas, its a lovely reminder that there will be others who equally feel as inept as I do.

What a timely video! I'd just submitted my abstract for a conference next sunmer and checked the "Poster presentation" box. Having watched this, I've now written to the organisers requesting to ammend it to "Oral presentation". Nervous as hell now since this will be my first ever conference presentation but what's the worst that could happen?? Fingers crossed I don't pass out on stage😅

Hi! Please make a video on Research Conference and how to find fully funded research conferences. Most of the research scholars are not able to afford the paid conferences.

Does anyone have any tips for budgeting for conference expenses on graduate student budget (finding cheaper nearby hotel, parking, etc.)? This is my first year in a PhD program and I got two papers accepted for a large national conference in my field. I want to try to be there for the full length of the conference and stay nearby to be able to meet people, but hotels are all ridiculously expensive.

Well it's been 9 months since your question and probably you already got the answer, I am just answering for people scrolling through the comments later. First of all find out if the organizers have a student support system which covers travel expenses, registration and/ or accommodation. Some conferences have a part time work type support as well. Go through the website to find these or just contact the organizers via email. Next ask your supervisor if s/he can support your conference visit from the research grant. Sometimes universities have support systems for student conference visits, find out from the office (preferably months before you decide to go). Then search for cheaper hotels and transport, calculate whether staying near the venue would be better or staying a bit further and adding a daily commute fee would be cheaper. Take into account the local public transport frequency as well. But at the end, don't think too much about saving a little bit of money and focus more on getting the most out of your conference once you are already there.

It sounds like you didn't present the same result set for all of your experiential variables.
