Hi Jon, I really do not measure it and add until the grain will not hold any more of the products. Some will not stick to the feed and falls off. Best to add until the grain is covered completely. There is always some wasted.

I would worm and vaccinate them but I never flock treat the birds with any antibiotics. If they look great use natural health products. Treat a sick individually with antibiotics if you want but flock treating with antibiotics will make your pigeons weaker.

Good morning Frank, is there a 7 day schedule for YB’s, YL’s, OB’s on off season and molting 😮
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons2 жыл бұрын
I would use the same schedule for the young bird team. I use the young bird season as experience for old birds to see what is good. I do not do any of the extras for the young birds. I do have the mix in the water when they return from the races and maybe apple cider Sunday and Monday. If you are a serious young bird fancier use this system. Off season and molting I give all the mineral mixes and good grain mix. Off season, maybe vitamins ounce a week and rarely anything else but nutrition and minerals. My birds do not need natural products to stay super healthy.

How often do you vaccinate your stockbirds and do you clean them.out after every round of babies bred
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Жыл бұрын
I vaccinate all the stock pigeons each year about a month before breeding. I use a PMV/Salmonella combo. When you say "Clean them out"? I do not medicate the pigeons ever. I worm the birds but no antibiotic flock treatments ever. I will treat a sick bird individually. My pigeons keep getting stronger.

@fabricdragon Жыл бұрын
i probably said this on some other videos, but was re watching this one and wanted to comment (i hear it helps the You Tube standings also) when you can get a product that is certified for humans (at least here in the USA) buy that instead of one "for animals" because they tend to be held to a higher standard. never, EVER trust honey that isnt from a named apiary or a trusted beekeeper. its not hard to find one with the name of a local beekeeper on it, but big name "honey" often is adulterated. i buy from "the Bee Folks" based in Maryland, but honestly any good health food store, or farm market, or Wegman;'s willl have some 'local honey' the probiotics, and the Red Cell will both be in the horse section in the local Tractor Supply if you have one!
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Жыл бұрын
Great tip on the honey. I will buy from my local bee keepers going forward. Thank you for this.
@fabricdragon Жыл бұрын
yeah, sadly "big honey" is bog money, and its easy to admix real honey with corn syrup, or make up entirely fake honey... so its always safer to buy it from a known beekeeper. Incidentally, i... think you are in Mass? a lot of the renn fair and SCA folks travel up and down the coast, so if you dont have a local person, i know The bee Folks travel up to New Hampshire once a year... i am fairly certain they either go to Massachusets or know good apiary folks @@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

I used to race twenty some years ago. had to give it up, work family you know. No, I'm getting close to retirement age and want to get pigeons again. So, Back when I was racing. I took all the advice from the old time flyers. They all pretty much say the same thing. After a race give this give that don't forget those. Before breeding do this after that. Well my birds never fared well in the races. So I got to thinking. How does a marathon runner take care of their body. Certainly not with a bunch of chemicals / poison. So I started going to health food And nutrition stores and buying different products for health and cleansing. Well wouldn't you know it, My bird started catching up and beating the old timers. Made them nervous. They certainly noticed the difference asking Asking me what i'm doing with my birds to make them improve. I just politely said everything you guys are telling me. All those herbal supplements also made the loft smell like an italian restaurant. Seriously.
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Жыл бұрын
This is great to hear and I know winning big with natural products can be done because I do it. Hope many go with natural products and stop all the antibiotic craziness. The sport and the pigeons will be much better for it. The health problems with young birds are terrible and maybe all the antibiotics over the last 30 years maybe the reason for this.
