If you remember that a circle area is πr^2, then you can get it via algebra rather quick. If the circle area is A=4a^2π then 4a^2=r^2. Looking at the figure, you could mentally figure out that the square can be divided in quarters each having an area r^2 So, the square's area is 4r^2 or 4(4a^2)=16a^2

36 yrs. old MBA graduate student from the University of Southern MIss, Hattiesburg, MS. I invested in hopes of scoring high enough to receive scholarships so that I can get more money back this Fall instead of having to pay out of pocket 100%. I just saw your headline, "over 30...," lol, so, here I am watching your video. I take the test in like 10 days and wanted to jump online for more insight to help assist me outside my textbook approaches. So far, I like your videos, they're very informational. I'm going to check your website out to see how affordable your study guides are. Perhaps, I may look over the sessions if not too expensive. Later
@DominatetheGRE6 жыл бұрын
Awesome, glad you found us! Did you take the GMAT for your MBA? I'm sure you'll be able to pick up the GRE quickly. 10 days isn't a ton of time, but I had a student boost her GRE Quant score 8 points in just 5 days with my course recently, so a lot of progress can be made in a fairly short amount of time. I'm sure you'll find my course options cost-effective -- and most importantly, that they get results. Let me know if you have any further questions. I'll look forward to working with you!
@Jerry_Carco6 жыл бұрын
I'm taking the GRE as it is required by most business programs. Have not taken the GMAT and only took GRE once, and didn't score high enough for paid grants, scholarships, etc. So, I'm trying at it one more time in hopes of scoring better. I've been accepted, but am required to pay 100% of costs, obviously, a small investment to retake and be better prepared this time around is well worth the dividends thereafter. However, it's unfortunate that I can't afford even your minimum cost right now considering my poverty level. Moreover, yes, your course is fairly affordable and would highly recommend anyone to seek your work for improvement considering all other programs available---you are very affordable in comparison. Again, the problem is me---I'm not financially suited for such benefits, hence, neither have I been thus far in this journey is why my struggle is so surreal, but I'm not complaining b/c I know other students with less opportunities and more struggles than I, therefore, I'm thankful for where I'm at currently. Thank you. Jerry

Glad to say that I obtained the correct answer in about 5 seconds by multiplying 3.14 × 4a squared and then adding the remaining small area. This would give you this most logical answer as being 16a squared.
@DominatetheGRE6 жыл бұрын
Very good! Logic can usually help you approximate right answers -- or at the very least eliminate several clearly wrong answer choices. That works well on this problem for sure.

I have a question. I'm going to take maths test GRE. Will there be any conversation before test? About why i need this certificate
@DominatetheGRE2 жыл бұрын
No, nobody from ETS will be asking you why you're taking the GRE. You will be able to use your GRE score for whatever purpose you need. It's important that you're clear on why you want/need the degree you're pursuing, however. That's often a question you will need to answer in your admissions essays and potential entrance interviews. But in terms of the GRE itself, you don't need to explain your reasons to anyone.

Question regarding the quantitative comparison in the second part of the video.. doesn't "Sum" imply addition? I still got the practice question correct because I added the average with 50 instead of multiplied it. I was under the assumption if a question asks for "product of a number" that means to multiply. - thank you for this vid!
@DominatetheGRE4 жыл бұрын
Yes, "sum" does mean "add." What I'm doing, though, is that instead of wasting time adding a bunch of big numbers, I'm reasoning my way to a right answer by thinking about the sum differently. Let's create a simpler version to show you what I'm talking about. What is the "sum" of 5 + 5 + 5? It's the exact same as 3 x 5! So you can either add all of the 5's together, or multiply 5 by however many of them there are. That's what I'm effectively doing with the larger problem here, and that's why multiplying ends up getting to the same answer faster than adding.

Hi, glad to see your mind-blowing strategies!!! I have been quite detached from studies owing to my financial issues. I worked (full time) for 4 years in a MNC in a rigourous night shift. in the daytime I pursued masters in English (full time) and also prepared for National Eligiblity Test in India for Fellowship. currently i am doing ph.d in American literature with fellowship in a top central university. i couldnt apply before for GRE and aspire for studies abroad for financial issues. I am little stable now. as i dont want to frustrate my funding country leaving PHD midway, I want to do either postdoc in american lit or ph.d in comparative literature after completing Ph.D here. I will cross 30 yrs when i am done with Ph.D. but i want to start preparing and have already started following you zealously. So keep posting good videos and suggest me what I can do for now.

@DominatetheGRE5 жыл бұрын
There's no calculus on the GRE, so not to worry. The math tested on the quant section of the GRE includes high-school level arithmetic (percents, ratios, etc.), algebra, and geometry. Now, it's not necessary "easy" -- especially if you haven't seen it for a while -- but it's not super advanced along the lines of what you're talking about. I'm confident you'll be able to get up to speed quickly -- especially with the help of my courses.

I am going on to my PhD (HOPEFULLY) from my BS-Psych 01/20 but I have to take the GRE in the next 3-6 mos. The one thing I'm terrible at is math, any kind. Even elementary school. Statistics class was insane for me but after it was explained 10x I got it (every week a new subject and new 10x explanation) (I got an A- in that class thanks to people trying to help me the entire 10 week term) same with my core math class in algebra (I got an A at the end of the term but I forgot EVERYthing almost). I am not worried about the other parts of the GRE test, those are easier for me. But math I'm not even remotely interested in and I'm so confused at every single word you are saying. I'm gonna fail. ): I need a private tutor, if only financial aid would pay for one.
@DominatetheGRE5 жыл бұрын
Well as your 10x statistic experience proves, you CAN learn the material! And I'm confident that can be your story on the GRE as well. All of the math can be learned, especially once I break it down for you and give you strategies to get right answers more quickly and in some cases avoid the traditional math altogether. Also, while private tutoring is expensive, our Platinum Package comes with weekly live coaching sessions that are like private tutoring, but much more cost-efficient. It sounds like you'd really benefit from that. You can learn more here: www.dominatethegre.com/gre-prep-courses-online/full-gre-course/online-gre-prep-course-platinum-membership/. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you. I know we can dominate the GRE together!

I may have had an undiagnosed asperger syndrome since childhood, but in my culture u are either normal or committed to a mental hospital so I was considered the former (and recently opinions have shifted to the latter). And it took me a very long time and a lot and I mean lot of setbacks and misfortunes before I made it my bachelor's in computer science. But by this point I am in my 30's and the job market is kinda sparse for me. So I have decided I might as well move on to my masters. This is new territory for me as no one in my family other then one of my maternal aunt (biochemistry doctorate) has even finished masters in science. I only recently discovered I might have asperger which literally explained all my shortcoming in life, such as mild ADHD, inability to focus on too many things at once, inability to trust or socialize with strangers, overly self concious in crowds and slightly above normal intelligence (I never managed to ever out study normal geniuses). I am very concious about my age and keep second guessing whether I can get back in the university game. But it is either that or I accept that no one iny country's job market wants to hire me, one of those choices is literally a death sentence.

First - First first ever!! I'm 41yo taking the general test next Saturday (30th). I took the Biology subject test last Saturday. I had been teaching biology, chemistry and physics that last 11 years. After my masters in 2004, I started teaching because I was broke and had a ton of student debt. I figured I would teach a few years until I was more financially stable. Then my wife got pregnant I kept teaching. I took the GRE in 2006 cold without any preparation and did OK. Now 11 years later I have to do it again. My biggest concern that is my practice score was good (verbal 160/quan 158). Now I feel I am getting a false sense of security. What if it was a biased sample of questions - ones I just happen to know? How many obscure words do I need to know? What If I got the math problems correct doing it the wrong way? I'm too old for this shit
@DominatetheGRE7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story. What degree are you going for this time? And was the practice test you took one of the free ones from ETS? If so, you should view your 160/158 as a pretty good sign. Obviously you won't see all of the same questions on the real thing next Saturday, but it still gives you a pretty good idea of your current quant and verbal abilities. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks. I am going for PhD this time around. I didn't need the GRE when I started my masters. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes it was the free one from ETS.

I took the GRE and got 157/158. I'm slightly annoyed by the process. They really make you feel uncomfortable with the level of "security". I have a little sinus congestion and I had to ask them for tissues. I didn't even want to leave during the 10min break. I also messed up the second essay accidentally deleting part of a sentence with time expiring. My goal was 160/160+. If I got lower (150/150) then I would definitely retake it, but here I am close and I'm wondering if it is worth the time and money.
@DominatetheGRE7 жыл бұрын
I'd say the answer to that question should be dictated by the admissions requirements/expectations of the school(s) you're applying to. If 157/158 is within their 80-percentile range of accepted scores, then apply with it. But if it's below what they expect, then take it again. Give your frustrations, it seems reasonable to expect that you could improve before the next attempt -- especially if you beef up a few of your weaknesses (we can help). But no need to invest the extra time and money if your current scores are good enough. A quick call to the admissions office(s) of your target schools (or visiting their websites) would be a good next step.

I've always wondered, how do you find professors to write you letters of recommendation if it's been a while since you've been in school? Do you find work colleagues or bosses to write letters for you or something?
@DominatetheGRE6 жыл бұрын
Coincidentally, this article came out a couple days ago: find-mba.com/articles/how-to-get-winning-letters-of-recommendation. It will give you some good food for thought. Also, in working with a number of different MBA Admissions Consultants who specialize in this type of thing, one of the things they always say is that the getting a recommendation from someone who knows you well and can really speak to the skills and talents you'll bring to the table is much more important than someone's title. In other words, don't force a rec from a college professor if you didn't really have a strong relationship with him/her. Likewise, it may be better to get a letter from a direct manager than from the CEO if the manager will be able to speak more directly to your character and work ethic, with specific stories and anecdotes to back it up. I'd be happy to refer you to a consultant if you'd like more direct help with the non-GRE portion of your applications. Just let me know!
