Domingo; 'La Fleur Que Tu M'Avais Jetée' & Björling; 'Salut! Demeure chaste et Pure' (JB Classical).

Bonjour mes amis!
Today on JB Classical we head to the great Republique de Francaise! and the 19the century.
We start with a visit to that giant Bizet and his great opera Carmen with Placido Domingo singing a beautifully sympathetic performance of 'La Fleur Que Tu M'Avais Jetée' (The Flower Song for Englishmen such as myself who admire the French language but tend to hack it to pieces when speaking it). Then it is a short hop back in time, yet still in Francaise, with a quick knock on the door of Charles (Gunod) and another beautiful rendition of classique French opera, Faust and Salut! Demeure chaste et Pure' this time sung by the legendary, Mr natural voice, Jussi Bjorling!

In regard Gounod's Faust, I think the composer just wanted someone like Jussi to sing it, soothing, pure, ahh Jussi the one who sang with a tear in his voice, amazing! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing! Great tenors, it depend what tenor voice you like, domingo are more of a tenor/baryton type of voice, björling was more a lyric tenor. For voice control, quality and flow trought the tone register. Björling is unmatched!

Two excellent entrants in the tenor category of the French repertoire. My favorite remains the Great Domingo. The performance of Carmen you selected gets played frequently in our house. The famously exacting Viennese audience went bonkers for his La Fleure to Elena O's Carmen such that the tv station had to take a commercial break only to return to the audience still lavishing him with their raucous ovation. lol Amazing. Bjorling is famous for good reason. My only disagreement would be with the idea that Pavarotti was a great stage actor. The list of excellent singing actors must include Callas, Gobbi, Domingo, Scotto, Zeani, Cossotto, Milnes, Stratas, Sills, Corelli, Del Monaco and Gigli, to name a few. Pavarotti could get by, like Caballe did, but, IMHO, he was at best a passable actor. I've never seen any footage of Bjorling acting, so I have no opinion on him in that regard. Welcome my friend! I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading comments on the channel so this was great :-) I understand what your saying about Pavarotti's acting in comparison with Callas, Gobbi, Domingo etc and actually on reflection I agree. You've also reminded me, mentioning Gobbi, that I want to devote a future episode to the great singers that Callas often sang with in the great roles. As a younger man it took me a long time to really appreciate Domingo, I think in large part to the long artistic shadow of Pavarotti cast over his generation of singers, but as I've become older I've come to appreciate his quality, versatility and reliability and yes also some of the great live moments such as this one. I also love his clip on YT performing 'In Fernem Land' live, spot on! Thanks again for the support and take care!

@@jbclassical7332 thank you ! Well I discovered Opera not so long ago thanks to three tenors and Plácido Domingo’s voice immediately impressed me the most compare to the two others . He is my opinion the king of tenors ( matter of opinion of course ) 😅 À bientôt!

I'm away to play La Marseillaise and Edith Piaf "Non, je ne regrette rien" (I do it every Friday night just to confuse the neighbours),
