I’ve never had a song touch me in a way. It really hit home on what I’ve been going through lately. My father committed suicide when I was 14. He was a drinker, smoker and played way to many video games. P.s. Good game! He didn’t manage anything going on outside or inside his life, and sat in the passenger seat while his life depleted. I was told by many people that, after all that, I have to look at the positive and see what my father did as wrong and not be like him. I’ve taken this to many aspects of my life, but some negatives still slipped through. I grew up watching my dad smoke cigarettes and weed, and drink hard liquor and beer. I am now 20 and I am addicted to nicotine and pot. I dabble in drinking but I definitely took that as a negative from my father. I’ve been trying to quit both nicotine and pot for a while now because I know that’s what my dad would want and had wanted for himself but he could never get the courage to hop from the passenger to the driver. I’ve been struggling with this as well; just the craving to take control of your life but you can’t seem to get started. Anyways, I hope I can work out my problems with time, and take the positive route. If anyone else is struggling with something like this feel free to reach out. My kid's father recently committed suicide, and he as well was a heavy smoker, drinker and loved to play video games. It's hard to watch someone be a 'passenger' to their own life, never taking control. I'm sorry for what happened to you. I hope you can take control of your own life and see that light. Andrew Alles and to Anyone Else Struggling - My condolences on losing your Dad and Im sending healing strength n encouragement your way I've stood in your shoes and am here to tell you, despite being my own worst enemy, it's Absolutely Possible to overcome those circumstances. For me in fits and starts, 2 steps backward, 1 step forward, 3 steps forward 1 backward so on I eventually moved into the driver's seat. For you, that must've been (still is) so hard to witness/process and feel. I've stood in your shoes and know 1st hand what surviving loved ones who died by alcohol, paralyzed by depression in the "passenger seat" and then seeing myself as similar. My brother age 32, and 2 of my father-in-laws lived and died like your Dad and those losses affected me in so many ways, and yes eventually I steered myself in a healthier, happier direction- I didn't believe I had it in me - Wow wish I'd got tuned into this song a year ago cuz I really really feel you n woulda responded to your utterly real revelations right away.
