I traveled to DR 3 times last year without any issues. I’ve been traveling to that nation since 2008. I plan to travel there 4 times this year and move there in 2024. Each time I traveled there last year, the US had a travel advisory suggesting US citizens not travel there because of crime and COVID. The US will NEVER promote travel to non-white nations.

Well said, and am glad that you addressed this topic. You are safer living in the DR than the USA. We can't wait to move to the DR. 1 year and counting. I have never had an issue period. I guess all the black people living in Tennessee should move, as another black man was killed by the police a few days ago. Keep making your videos, and PREACH on. 👍🏽💕

Ebony, Obviously those who say haitians are treated bad b y the Dominicans have not seen the video whewre haitians were being chased by emmigration in Texas and being whipped with a whip. dominicans dont do that to haitians. We are the first to help them in times of needs. The problems is that Domoinican Republic is a poor country and can not take care of their own people and an additional 3 million haitians. America, Canad, France who oowned haiti before should help the haitians and not leave the problems to the dominicans. I love you. afric an americans are loved in the DR. who is saying that is blind to racism in america towards black americans.

I had heard all of those horror stories about the DR. My family visited the outskirts of the Capital summer of 2022 and it was one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had. Granted we're all lighter shades of brown but I didn't notice any of the discrimination towards anyone darker shades. My only problem was the language barrier. I speak no Spanish and my cell phone service, to use google translate, was not cooperating. I loved every bit of my stay. I'd move if I could speak Spanish.

Thanks a lot from the bottom of my heart! We're bless to have you among us... you are way more effective as a spokesperson for our country than the guy who's supposed to be doing that in our own government and who gets paid a fortune for his "efforts". As you said, our country is not perfect and if anyone in the comments knows of the perfect place, please let us know because I'll move there too. The idea that we're targeting black people in immigration raids is laughable; close to 90% of all undocumented migrants in the D.R. are from Haiti. 90% of Haitians are black, thought any action the government takes (good or bad) about undocumented migrants will by simple math affect black people. That is not racism. What's the country supposed to do? Not enforce immigration laws so that people don't call us racists? It does not make sense at all.

I didn’t come here for years because of what I heard about how they treat Haitians. I love Haitian people. But it wasn’t because I have a small mind and I do have a passport. I’ve been traveling all over for years. However, I thought what I saw on the news was accurate. But I am here now and surprised at how lovely it is. I feel no issues. I am from “Lil Dominican Republic” (aka Washington Heights) in NYC and never had an issue. I feel like this is WAY exaggerated. However, how are people supposed to know that it’s not really true when we hear certain stories on the news. Great Video! It’s important.

Hi I am a new subscriber here! I just found your channel and I just returned home from Punta Cana three days ago. I have to agree with you I am black woman as well. My husband and I mentally prepared ourselves but we didn’t have any problems going thru the DR immigration/ Customs.we stayed three nights at a beautiful resort and the next three nights at a beautiful Airbnb (we met up with family Also from the US) we rented a car, visited the mall, the beach the bank etc no problems what’s so ever. We did encounter a problem returning home to the US the customs agents had a lot of questions and even pulled my husband into a private room just to be released five mins later. ( we are both US citizens. I say all of this because it is important to learn from our own experiences not what “they” say. I can’t wait to return in the fall or summer of 2023. I love the DR and lived there for two years. I thought the same way as this video until immigration threatened to deport me for being dark-skinned just last week. Some people are shielded from this reality. I was blinded at first because of how much I loved the DR and the culture. The US was right to warn us. I ignored the warning but it's happening more and more that dark-skinned Americans are being harassed. I also had a moto concho driver tell me that I was not safe on the streets of Puerto Plata even if I am American. He has seen what police and immigration are doing to dark skin people. This also just happened last week. It's time to wake up. If you live in Punta Cana this is less likely to happen but in Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata, this is happening. I traveled without issues for two years then these two things happened during my recent trip. The DR is racist against dark skin people. I just left Punta Cana a few weeks ago and no run-in with law enforcement there. We can't say this is not happening because it is.

Great video - I’ve never even pondered this as my experience has been that in the DR everybody is pretty chill and bonds are formed on the basis of kindness and kinship - skin colour never even factors in the equation. But then again, I’m from Canada where multiculturalism is the norm, not the exception. I have many Dominican and Haitian friends here, and can sympathize with the issues from many different perspectives. But I personally think that everyone, regardless of race, should feel safe here. Unless you rent a car. 😅 Love your videos Bridgett - check out my latest vlogs!

I am well traveled. I have distant relatives in the Dominican. I have traveled and lived in the community with my family amongst the local people on and off for years. Everyday going to the store, taking the gaugua, getting the water in the middle of the block. I’ve witnessed the hostility:hatred toward Haitians. This is nothing new. History when Haitian ruled The DR for 20 years, even worse when Trujillo was president and his campaign of “Sangre Puro” which killed many Haitians. But what is most disconcerting to me is the most recent laws of deportation. No, Bridget it is not just about those at the border being deported. It’s so much more. Read the case of Yean&Boisco Girls v. D.R. 9/8/2005. Now it’s Rule 168/15? People need to understand your U.S. passport holds a lot of weight in the world most of the time. BUT! Lose it. There is a problem. Do your research. There are reputable NGO’s which speak to this problem. The article speaks to the possibilities. Yes there are major problems in the U.S., but deferring to George Floyd is distasteful and in my opinion didn’t add any to the conversation. Yes! we know what to expect unfortunately in the U.S., however, the thought of possibly going somewhere with the same mentality can be daunting at best. My advise whether live in the DR or visit talk to the local people not just Dominicans, but Haitians also. Also I have family and friends from the DR in the U.S. and the conversations regarding Haitians are not good and it’s not about being deported directly. It’s about skin color and/ or their ugly and their not human and they do this or that. I had a friend who was being in Santiago by a Dominicano who said all kinds of derogatory things to him because he thought he was Haitian. The police came and start to abuse my friend, until my friend said “Por favor Espera, Por favor” and he pulled out his U.S. Passport, the the police turned on the Dominican.

What happens is that the USA government wants the Dominican Republic opens the border and let all Haitians go to the DR.There are about more than 2 millions Haitians in the DR.If they are legal I don't see anything wrong with them been there, but if they are iligal and don't follow the rules they should be deported. It would be a shame if the Dominican republic turns into what is happening in Haiti now.Haiti is been ruled by Gans.

But the thing is that the idea that the Dominican authorities would question someone who just got out of a plane from the USA, with a U.S. passport while looking for Haitians is ridiculous in the first place. Anyone who believes that apparently hasn't travelled since before the 9/11 attacks. Just think about it, are Haitians now traveling to the USA and try to sneak into the D.R. from there? I mean, with a huge land border that's basically open in most places? Also, when traveling from the USA to the D.R. you need to fill out this electronic form and print it to show it to the ticket agent in the USA before they even allow you on a plane here. The Dominican authorities already know that you're coming here before you even depart the USA. There are so many holes in this story that you even wonder why the U.S. embassy came up with it in the first place.

You're comparing George Flyod to the isolation of a country? Sorry I clicked on your video. 😢

I'm sorry you did too. Because what I was saying obviously went over your head. There was never a comparison.

Only people with small minds say that. Because an intelligent person knows that everyone has a right to their own opinion. We are human and do not have to agree.

Hey wow, thanks for the warning, the recommendation not to come and the crack about George Floyd was a nice touch. LOL. I get it though because just about everywhere in the world is colonized. I try to look at stuff from the perspective of how would I want things to go and how can I make things more fair and humane. A lot of stuff that happens people label as racist. I for one am an unsubscriber. It's not racism because pigmentation and physical characteristics doesn't change a human being into an animal no matter how hard people may be influenced to think. The real reason for all of this is fear, simple basic fear of getting lost in the shuffle. The people that colonized America weren't some elevated version of man with superpowers; the whole high society stuff we have here is in actuality a load of bunk. Those so called daughter of the whatever whose relatives came over on the Mayflower were in fact descendants of either impoverished or some form of criminal element from some place in Northern Europe that were given the choice of being shipped out or jailed. That story isn't quite as nice or adventurous as forging a new life in a new place that, by the way, already had people with their own culture, heritage and lifestyle on it. When people says they don't like how the Haitians are treated that's what they mean. I don't care if it's their skin color, their lack of finances or if it's a language barrier. I's feel the same way about people from the Dominican Republic that were to come here. I'd want them to be treated with the same respect as any other person. I wouldn't want a person to come here from England and feel unsafe and hated just because they were a little different than the overall population.
