In the united states we have something called a citizens arrest. What he did was completely legal. Anybody seeing this video and thinking that the guy was mistreated should understand that based on the Dominican Culture, that guy got off pretty easy. I am American and live here in the Dominican for the last 3 years, and I have seen dominicans here in the Barrios caught stealing, where the entire village comes out and beats the thieves. If they are Haitian, they are dead before the police show up

That was brilliant. Textbook example of non-lethal force to arrest a suspect. I also love how he never went through the guys stuff. A lesser experienced person might be tempted to just open up the backpack and prove a point (to the thief, to the camera). He operated to the best of his ability within the law and also seemed to have fun. Seems like a great guy to work for!

Here in the U.S. you cannot Citizens arrest someone if they are not committing a crime or if there isn't a warrant on that person. If they committed a crime in the past without evidence there's nothing cops can do for you. But this was totally illegal. I think the dude got in trouble that's why they cut the video short.

Now, I don't know anything about U.S. laws so I have no idea if this is legal or not, but if there is anyone to blame here, is the police for giving them those instructions.
