I live in the US, and my love for motorcycles started when I was 5 years old, and my dad purchased an early 1970 to 1973 triumph Bonneville and had friend give it a custom flying dragon paint job. He wouldn't take me with him until bought a helmet. Lol so my grandma (his mom) gave money to buy one so he didn't have any reason to take me with him on it. I am 50 years old now and still have a soft spot for the old triumph Bonneville, but my bike I own and ride is 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 classic. That I purchased in 2009 from a dealership that couldn't sale it. So it was a brand new 2006 purchased y me in 2009. Love watching this build. Keep up the great work and video's.

I believe a half scale Ranalah has great potential. Those that don't like the idea can just buy the full scale and these the half scale that have limitations but get into the wheeling craft. What is not to like? I think an even smaller scale for a desk or shelf might make a great gift for those in the trade or as a prompt to go ahead and dive into the craft. Love the broad range of topics of your episodes. John is great can't get too much of his presence on the show.

I like the idea of a half size wheeling matching but other than material cost don't see where the savings can come from - all the time, labour and transport costs will be identical to a full size one won't they?
@PeterJewell2 Жыл бұрын
@@FFVoyager - half the size, quarter of the weight. No need to hire a 7-ton flatbed with Hi-ab to move it. One metre high, will fit lying down on a standard pallet. Half- to quarter- of the effort (time) required for machining/finishing. Won't be half the cost, but I bet that making small castings is a heap easier than making large ones: physics doesn't scale, but in this case, that's probably an advantage.

Hi Dom, the "Half Wheeling Machine" is a fantastic idea. Once you've had a half wheeling machine, surely you'll want to progress onto the real thing. With the HWM's, why don't you machine the top wheel and cradle housings, rather than faffing around with Babbit and the associated alignment fixtures (& issues)? After all, it's also going to be a lot more fiddly.

Hi Dom, great to hear about your new "1/2 Wheel" idea sounds perfect, may I respectfully suggest that you make a robust stand that wont tip or rock while 'wheeling', maybe fix to the floor with leveller bolts, but very importantly the wheels should be at the same finished 'working' height as a full size Ranalah, wishing you the best of luck in your new Ranalah project, cheers, Denis Harvey, Retired Lecturer in Fabrication/Sheetmetal/Welding

Hi Dom I’m really keen to see you thrive with your wheeling machine project. I think offering a smaller version that is easier to handle/transport, bench mountable and cost effective is a winner. However your comments in the video led me to believe you may have overlooked some of the key points you are attempting to address. You mentioned a half size may not comfortably fit on a counter - do you think it should? Will it be so heavy that it’s unlikely to sit safely on a counter - can you lighten it without using expensive materials? Can you use existing wheels (rollers) and their accessories from your existing product line and any older heritage wheeling machines? Surely this latter one will save you and your customers the unnecessary “re-inventing” cost? I love you’re enthusiasm and your passion and I hope that my points here support your own thoughts on this exciting project I wish you well and look forward to seeing you in the next episode 🙏

Ah, we have Honest John, now we've got Honest Dom😂😂 We all make mistakes somewhere along the line and learn from them so it's good to see you own up and keep it in👍👍👍👍 What's wrong with a half size Ranalah, if you want to have a go and you can't run to a big one it's the perfect answer and it keeps the craft alive.

Ok Dom. Seat quick, dirty, surprisingly durable and repeatable when it gets too scabby.. Build a steeel or aluminium base that fixes nicely to the frame. Then make a semi-disposable stiff plastic seat base that can dzus down to the installed base, which of course may want to be hinged for service access. Make a few in Plastic/glass/wet lay carbon. Then contact cement multiple layers of High density neoprene to the replaceable seat squab. When you have enough foam in the right places, you can sculpt the seat profile with a flapper disc in an angle grinder and a final scrub over with 320 grit sand paper will make it resemble suede. Been doing it on Endurance bikes for years and has exactly the sort of look you are after. Kind of distressed, yet is water shedding and always replaceable. Final trick is the build your layers with access to the dzus fasteners using brad punches to make the tunnel required. plug the holes with the excess that comes out of the hole punch center and glue in before final shaping on the solid base.

Two of my former Teachers appeared on the Repair Shop some time back. Sadly the Beeb don't have many of the old series available. I started watching your Channel before I even knew what the Repair Shop was. The Bike is going to be a thing of beauty, even if you have had to take it back to the bear bones it will be better for it in the end. With the Porsche I can see why you have put it on hold till you have more time available as one day a week you wouldn't see much progress or in some cases have time to really get stuck in to it is on the more difficult sessions that need more than a day to do. Better to do it properly when time allows that keep plodding along and not be happy with the end results.

Dom. I can only endorse what others have said. Great videos. Can I offer a word of caution over the bike tank? I know you have a spar to replace the strength a steel tank would heve provided, but suggest you mount the alloy tank on rubber 'top hat' mounts to ensure it is not stressed. (Others may want to comment on the risk of static build up if it is completely isolated, although it could be regarded as connected to the frame via the fuel in the pipe and carb.) Keep up the good work, and all power to your elbow.
