This song has always been in the back of my head ever since watching Dominion Tank Police back when the Sci-Fi Channel had Saturday Anime. It's such a haunting theme. I never knew that this was only on the U.S. release and not on the Japanese release.

Every once and a while I come back to this song and listen to it on KZbin. The anime alone on a random Saturday night on sci-fi channel was enough to draw me in to anime ovas ( which back then was pre-Toonami so that was all that we had) which lead me to the fandom I had for the genre itself. I’ve gotten older and have gotten over it over the years. But every so once in a while I listen to just this song. I’ll play it randomly for days on headphones or in private. But every time, just this song, nostalgia doesn’t even begin to cover the emotion and literal physical reaction I feel when I listen to it. I don’t think I have ever felt this way to any form of media as I feel to tank police or this song in general. It has just become apart of me, and I hope that I never lose this feeling. Days like these, this is one of the very few things I attach to, and become genuinely happy just from hearing the song. I just wish one day I won’t have to rely on it.

I've heard the song for the first time in 1993, when I was 7 years old from my first anime I have ever seen... from a VHS casette in my home town (Ruse) in Bulgaria! It shaped my all conception for animation (anime) for the future. Tank Police - THE BEST... I adore you... Till the end of time... (Leona and Al) Britain and forever more - Bonaparte! I first saw this anime back when they were hard to find, on vhs rental vids, as well as the sci fi channel back when was fucking good! the 80s and 90s was the best time to grow up in, not like now, i cry all the time i listen to this because i know that the anime of today although has fantastic animation, lacks the emotional connection that the old animes had, in other words, old anime had plots, story, personality, even epic moments that would last well beyond their lifetime.....new anime is just boobs, and blank personalities. that's it! so long 1980s and 1990s anime, you filled my young mind with so much......RIP.

Brings me back to the early 1990's and the VHS section at Suncoast Video. Dominion Tank Police was probably the first anime, and possible the first VHS / Movie that I bought with my own money. The scantily clad ladies on the front might have had something to do with it. What love I do have for anime likely started with that tape.

The version from X is great and all - especially the timing of the speech, but a clean instrumental version like in Chobits is definitely the one to find.

Hi everyone reading this and listening to this potential ‘greatest song in the world ever’. Hehe. It’s so good! But it makes me really sad deep down. I’m nearing 40 now. I first heard this/watched Tank Police on DVD and still have it somewhere. I always wanted to make games and from ages 7-16 I made freeware PC games. My dad had a good job so we had a nice house, nice computers. My parents bought a plot of land just shy of an acre. We moved into my grandparents tiny house whilst ours was built. I got to spend random nights sleeping in the skeletal house with my pops for fun (“are we going to the big house tonight dad?” I’d ask aged 6, 7.) watching Home Improvement, Red Dwarf, Have I got News For You. I spent that time out at the big house with just a sketchbook and pencils designing out/drawing games that I wanted to play. My dad encouraged me by buying Klik n Play on the PC and AMOS on the Amiga. My neighbour (coincidentally) at the time were the parent of the guy who made Darksiders (the game, if there’s anything else with that name I dunno about it :) ). I finished school aged 16 not knowing where to go next or what to do. I couldn’t make money off my games. I had no college or work lined up. My dad pushed me into, weeks after courses had begun, a random college in the neighbouring county. I rolled up late with just my portfolio to hand and the tutors snatched me up with an unconditional offer. I knew nobody there. A month earlier during the summer I had a dream I ran around a fountain beside a giant building chasing and being chased by a woman with, I won’t go into detail there but a bunch of identifying features! Mega strangely enough the woman I dreamt about was on this course. We both kept glancing at one another over and over. A charge built up atop love at first sight. 2 months later we were dating. Everyone on the course knew we’d date we just had that magnetism thing going on. Our friend Allen gave us a DVD from some Playstation 2 magazine because my gf was big into anime (I just liked everything pretty much lol). It had Tank Police on it - we only watched it once but it was unforgettable! That was 22 years ago. We’ve been together ever since with a relationship full of cool things like our first kiss being barefoot in a spring-time meadow at sunset, neither of us had any other partners before (or during lol). Depression hit me pretty hard though. The magic that was my younger years… I had a hiccup making a game, getting stuck on it and wasn’t able to finish it and feel I lost the magic. I only live now because of the grace of my family - and my partners parents are also very helpful, understanding, and her dads a legit morris dancer. I honestly don’t know how to fix myself. It crushes me. My dads not doing too well (had cancer at one point) and recently said he thought I’d go further than this (ME TOO. I want to get back on Bruce Waynes horse or bike or whatever it was). I wish I could just finish a project, or for one of my non-game things to work. I still live in that house we built, same bedroom. One sibling moved out and I’m a really neat uncle at least. Life is just so strange, in a good and bad way, to me. One thing though is I did get a game published which was a lifelong dream, and with that I got to visit E3, EGX, Gamescom and meet my actual heroes (I was shaking a guys hand in LA being introduced by my publisher. His name was massive from my childhood but I never knew his face! And I’m shaking the guys hand when I hear his name to which I actually did a little shout and shock! I even got to meet another heroes mistress! Yes! People actually do stuff like that it’s not just in films and TV!) And then this song just punches so devastatingly. As Max Payne would say, or any of the school essays I wrote where myself and my best buddy Tom would rewrite chunks of Max Payne as we were so enamoured by it aged 15.

@Jengirl92 I can try to synopsise Tenchi Muyo, but its difficult. Tenchi is the name of a teenaged boy, who lives in the country close to a shinto shrine where his granfather is preist. He also shares his house with his dad, as well as an alien princess, a space pirate, a mad scientist, a ditzy space cop, the Princess' little sister and a fuzzy cat/Rabbit thing called Ryo-Oki, who is also a starship as well. Its equal parts soap Opera and Space Opera

@Jengirl92 The classics like Dominion Tank Police, Appleseed ect are still out there on DVD, if you're willing to search for them amid the horrible 4-Kids manglings of Naruto and One-Piece. Hell, you may even find the original versions on Tenchi Muyo, which did run on Cartoon Network, albeit with all the nudity and sex references taken out. I still have a special place in my heart for Ryo-Oki and I think Ryoko was one of my first teenage crushes despite being a cartoon.

@Jengirl92 There are actually several versions of Tenchi Muyo. There is the original series, that was very much aimed at grown up, featured nudity, a lot of sexual humour and quite a bit of violence from time to time, then there were a number of 're-imagined' spin-offs that were generally more family freindly. I reccomend just looking for the original series, simply called Tenchi Muyo. And of course, the awesomness that is Dominion Tank Police. Think the Lethal Weapon movies with tanks.
