I think you're sleeping on the worm mage. He doesn't cast swarm at the start of every battle, he casts it every turn, and on death, he becomes a massive blob of insects that he will respawn from quickly. He's a supreme raider that is not very vulnerable to typical counter-thugs.

I do think he can be good and better than people expect, I just never use it and I’ve rarely if ever seen other people use it. I think the worst thing going for him is being an ultra late game Nature 3 mage and being Tharm 8.

I only have a pretty limited knowledge about it’s technical workings, but basically when a unit reincarnates it has 3 possible outcomes, first it might join with the god, possibly raising the magic level of your god or else just adding a dom candle to a random province. It can come back as a different unit, which in the case of monkey nations can range from a makarta (worst) to a bandar (best), and finally it can return back as it was before it died, effectively returning from the dead. The chance to return from death is small but it exists, for nations with lots of reincarnating units like Bandar Log it can be somewhat useful to mitigate some mage attrition. Having played monkey nations a lot I feel that the effect is so minor however I barely, if ever, notice it.

How good is bloodletting?

It’s great if you combine it with something like rain of blood to cause a morale rout if the enemy is mostly low HP human units, casting this a few times with something like rain of blood or wailing winds for support can quickly rout a huge army. I’ll also add that since Vamps are immune to it, a handful of them can spam it pretty effectively and possibly rout armies of low HP units with bloodletting alone. Just bring a lot of slaves since it will also affect them and kill them.

They will heal, however only when they reform and they don’t heal every time. You can try to kill them softly so they don’t get a new injury and hopefully heal up?
