I ran into Nique a few years back. Was a retail store manager and he was shopping with his family. Hard to not recognize him head to toe Hawks gear and his height; he had a mob around him. I asked if he wanted my security people to help him get around the store and he said no thanks. And spoke and was kind to everyone that wanted to talk to him. Showed me what kind of guy he was.

Just a great interview with one of the greatest to play the game. For newbies who don't know how great Bernard King was I would describe BK as along with Wilt " the most unstoppable scorer we have ever seen !". B King would drop 50 with all 5 players on the opponents team trying to stop him ( the Knicks had nobody else really ). Case in point.....One of the greatest games in team history. The knicks go up to Boston Garden ( the Celtics used to get away with murder on defense it was " no blood no foul ). The day before at a news conf Cornbread Maxwell proclaimed " he aint getting no 50 against us ".....Bernard scored 50 plus points with all 5 Celtics trying to send him to the hospital and King treated them like they were mosquitoes trying to bring down an elephant. That's how unstoppable Bernard King was. Listen to Nique tell it.
@superdopehiphop Жыл бұрын
Agreed but I would also put Durant & Gervin in there as well as 87-88 to 92-93 MJ. Jerry West & Big O also deserve mention as well as LeBron & Kareem.
@vincentbrown1872 Жыл бұрын
@@superdopehiphop No,, as great as KD and Iceman, and still in the running for GOAT Oscar was, Wilt and B King are the only ones that had to score at the most physical time and had to score on all 5 of the opposing team trying to stop them. Since you mentioned KD he got punked by the Celtics in the Playoffs last year and folded like a deck of cards. It was so bad he could not even dribble and mentally lost it. KD is no Bernard King. As thin and weak as KD's body is he could not score with Williams hacking him and the Celtics keying on him.

Big facts growing up in that era in Ga Niq was the God to us, Mike was okay but Niq was that dude. It was crazy the Omni would be empty and you could damn near sit courtside by halftime back then.
